16th Annual Salute to
Laudable Londoners
An evening of elegance and acknowledgment
Over $40,000 Raised
April 21, 2015 marked the 16th
Annual
Salute
to
Laudable
Londoners. Over 115 guests and
friends gathered at Museum London
to recognize Mitchell A. Baran for
his contributions to the community.
As owner and Chairman of Trudell
Medical, Founding Chairman and
Vice-Chairman
of
Let’s
Talk
Science, Chairman of various other
local institutions, and a humble
recipient
of
various
awards,
including an honouree of the Order
of Canada and The Queen Elizabeth
II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Mitchell
Baran is a prime example of a
Laudable Londoner. Mr. Baran’s
dedication to healthcare and
community well-being is evident in
his career as well as his own time.
Guests were welcomed with the
elegant melodies of pianist Bryan
Gloyd. With its sweeping views of
the river and exquisite art, Museum
London created a warm atmosphere
of welcome and excitement as old
friends met, contacts reacquainted,
and everyone sought out Mitchell
Dr. Cal Stiller gave an honest and
heartfelt speech, sharing personal
stories and experiences with Mr.
Baran
throughout
the
years.
Baran in order to congratulate him
on his latest bestowed honour.
Bill Brady, the original Laudable
Londoner and MC to the event for
many years, welcomed guests with
his signature sharp wit and humor.
London Mayor Matt Brown took the
podium next and brought greetings
from the city, Hon. Deb Matthews
(MPP), and Hon. Ed Holder (MP), as
well as thanked Mitchell for all that
he has achieved and given to the
City of London.
Tina
Jamieson,
Chair
of
Participation House Foundation
Board of Directors, introduced Bryan
Thompson, a supported individual at
Participation House, who told his
story through a short video of his
experiences as part of the
Participation House family. After the
video, Bryan presented Mitchell with
the 2015 Laudable Londoner award.
Mitchell took the stage last, but not
least, and thanked everyone for the
encouragement and friendships over
the years. He related to Participation
House and the work that we do,
especially in the medically fragile
field, as close to his own heart.
The event was a fantastic evening
that highlighted the quality of the
very fiber that binds the London
community—this year illuminated by
the great deeds of Mitchell A. Baran.
The Participation House Foundation Board of Directors extend a heartfelt Thank You to the
following individuals and organizations, in helping us honour Mitchell A. Baran as
our 16th Laudable Londoner. Over $40,000 was raised to assist more than 300 adults and
children with severe physical, developmental or multiple disabilities reach their full
potential in the community. On their behalf, thank you very much.
