SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Boston University returns to action against St. Lawrence after last playing to a 4-2
victory over Providence on December 8. Senior Kenny Roche scored the gamewinning goal and added an assist to help BU improve to 6-3-5 on the year with a 4-3-4
record in Hockey East play.
Roche is leading his team with 13 points. The senior is just one of four BU players
scoring in double figures. Pete MacArthur (12 points), Chris Higgins (11) and Sean
Sullivan (11) are next in line. Sullivan is the leader with 10 assists while Roche is
tops with six goals.
John Curry has started 13 of BU’s 14 games and has a 5-3-5 record. He currently
has a .928 save percentage and 1.87 goals against average. Karson Gillespie has played
in one game, earning a win.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY VS. ST. LAWRENCE
St. Lawrence’s Mike McKenzie beat BU goaltender John Curry on a penalty shot
2:30 minutes into overtime, capping a late SLU comeback in an unlikely 4-3 victory at Dartmouth College’s Thompson Arena on the opening day of the Ledyard
National Bank Classic.
BU held a 3-2 lead late in the third period before Brock McBride scored his third
goal of the night with 3:50 left in regulation, tying the game at 3-3.
McKenzie scored the penalty shot on a backhander that beat BU goalie John
Curry to the glove side. Curry finished the night with 19 saves.
In the first period, McBride gave SLU a 1-0 lead at the midway point before BU
tied it on Jason Lawrence’s power play goal with 1:32 left. Pete MacArthur pushed
BU back ahead, 2-1, just 4:15 into the middle stanza.
In the third period, McBride evened the score again with 8:58 played before
Lawrence got his second of the night 1:05 later for a 3-2 BU lead.
For St. Lawrence, Alex Petizian made 27 saves.

HEAD
COACH
Bob Gaudet
Bob Gaudet enters his tenth season
as head coach of the Big Green.
Gaudet is a 1981 graduate of Dartmouth and played four years for the
varsity hockey team as a goaltender.
He came back to Dartmouth after
nine successful seasons behind the
Brown University bench.
At Dartmouth, Gaudet has
guided the Big Green to five straight
winning seasons, including two 20win seasons in 2002-03 and 200405. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05
marked the fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that’s
happened in school history. Gaudet
has also led the Big Green to home playoff series the last six years and in
2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and
has a Dartmouth record of 138-128-36.
Last year the Big Green captured its first-ever ECACHL title, sharing the honors with Colgate. Gaudet was also named the ECAC Hockey
League’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award
with two separate teams. Mike Ouellette was named the Ivy League Player
of the Year and he is the first player under Gaudet’s tutelage to earn that
honor. Ouellette was also given All-America honors, giving Gaudet backto-back players earning that award.
Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went
about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the
ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the
league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third
in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Gaudet has begun the
same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years,
eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first last season.
During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League
champions twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first
NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist
for Division I Coach of the Year honors. He was named ECAC Coach of
the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league,
just one-and-a-half games behind first-place Clarkson. The Bears also spent
much of the year in and out of the top 10 in the national polls.
Gaudet’s career coaching record stands at a respectable 231-27067.
Gaudet originally came to Brown in 1988 following a five-year tenure
as an assistant coach at Dartmouth. He assisted in all aspects of the Big
Green hockey program under head coaches George Crowe and Brian Mason while coordinating recruiting efforts and serving as varsity goaltender
coach. In addition, he directed the junior varsity program his first season
at Dartmouth.
Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet
led the Big Green to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA
Final Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the
Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth
ice hockey. In 76 career games, he made a school-record 2,129 saves while
allowing only 299 goals for a 4.00 career goals against average and an .877
save percentage. He had his most successful campaign as a sophomore
when he recorded two of his four career shutouts to go along with a 3.03
goals against average. He was first team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80,
and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best
Ivy League goalie.
Following graduation, Gaudet signed a free-agent contract with the
Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. He played for minor league
affiliates of Winnipeg in the CHL and IHL for one year before a knee injury
cut short his promising career.
In the summer of 1990, Gaudet served as the assistant coach of the
East team in the Olympic Sports Festival, held in Minneapolis. In 1994,
he served again as head coach of the East team, and also coached the East
All-Star Team in the East-West Shrine College Hockey Classic. Gaudet
spent the summer of 1998 behind the bench of the New England Select
16-Team at USA Hockey’s Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Gaudet and his wife Lynne – also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate – reside
in Hanover with their three children: sons Joey and Jimmy plus daughter
Kelly. Joey is a member of the 2006-07 Big Green team.

NORTH DAKOTA TAKES 4-1 VICTORY OVER DARTMOUTH
HANOVER, N.H. -- Goaltender Philippe Lamoureux made 25 saves as the
University of North Dakota defeated Dartmouth, 4-1, in the second game of the
Ledyard National Bank Hockey Classic Friday night. A pair of short-handed goals
highlighted the opening scoring before UND erupted for three in the third including a late empty netter.
A shorthanded Rylan Kaip goal gave North Dakota a 1-0 lead with 2:21 gone
in the first period. Dartmouth tied the game at the 1:29 mark of the second on
a shorthanded, unassisted marker by junior David Jones (N. Vancouver, B.C.). A
turnover in the UND end allowing Jones to skate down alone firing over Lamoureux’s right shoulder.
Robbie Bina broke the 1-1 tie with 6:33 gone in the third period, scoring the
gamewinner for North Dakota (8-10-1). UND will take on St. Lawrence in
Saturday’s championship game after SLU defeated Boston University, 4-3, in the
opener.
After Bina pushed UND ahead in the third, Andrew Kozek added an insurance goal three minutes later. With Dartmouth goalie Mike Devine (Orchard Park,
N.Y.) on the bench in favor of the extra skater, UND’s Ryan Duncan added an
empty-netter with 42 seconds left.
Devine made 14 saves for Dartmouth who was 0-for-11 on the power play.
North Dakota also missed on seven power play chances.
“I thought we played a good game, they were a well coached and a very good
hockey team. We played hard but it just didn’t go our way. We’re continuing to
battle and we’ll find a way. We need to get better on our power play. A power play
goal tonight and it might have been a different game for us.” - Head Coach Bob
Gaudet.

CHAMPIONSHIP BLUES
DARTMOUTH
2006-07 Notes
The Dartmouth men’s hockey team will be playing in the consolation game of the
Ledyard National Bank Classic. It will be the first time since 1994 that the host team
was not in the championship game. Dartmouth’s holiday tournament has always been
played every other year.
VS. BOSTON UNIVERSITY
BU holds the lead in the series 42-29-2 with the two teams squaring off in the Boston
Garden for the ECAC semifinal game when Bob Gaudet was in net for his alma mater
in 1979. Most recently, Boston University claimed a 5-1 victory in Hanover on Dec.
10, 2005.
LEYARD NATIONAL BANK CLASSIC
Dartmouth hosts its 19th holiday tournament with some of the nation’s top teams in
North Dakota, BU and St. Lawrence. The Big Green began hosting duties in 1978 with
the then Auld Lang Syne Tournament. Dartmouth has won the tournament crown five
times and has been to the championship game 14 times. Both Boston University and
SLU have been issued invitations previously with BU claiming one victory in 1991 and
SLU making it to the championship game twice, taking the 1996 title. JUST STOP IT
Dartmouth is looking to snap a recent skid. The Big Green has not won a game since
Nov. 18. Dartmouth has gone 0-2-2 since a 1-0 victory over Brown.
A LITTLE SHORT-HANDED
When Kevin Swallow scored his second goal of the season against Harvard on Dec.
16 the sophomore also recorded Dartmouth’s first shorthanded goal of the season.
David Jones added to the tally, potting a shortie of his own against North Dakota
on Dec. 29.
CENTURY CLUB
Seniors Dan Shribman, Tanner Glass and Mike Harwick have all joined the 100games played club. Shribman eclipsed the mark against Yale (Nov. 17), Glass against
Brown (11/18) and Hartwick against Harvard (12/16). Grant Lewis is one game
away.
SHOOTING HIGH
Against North Dakota on Dec. 29 the Big Green had 26 shots to UND’s 18. It was
the first time since playing Quinnipiac on Nov. 25 that Dartmouth has outshot an
opponent. The Big Green is 1-2-1 when outshooting its opponent.
AW SHOOT
In 2005-06 Dartmouth was outshot nine times, going 15-6-1 in those games and
3-5-1 when it was the opponent with more shots. This season the Big Green has
been outshot eight times and is 4-3-1 in those contests.
SHOOTING HIGH
Dartmouth outshot its opponents 1,152 to 907 last year. This season the Big Green
has 311 shots on goal to its opponent’s 369.
MORE SHOOTING
In 2005-06 the Big Green did not allow an opponent to have more than 40 shots on
goal. This season Colgate has been the only team to manage that.

LET’S GET IT STARTED – Dartmouth fans started the season off right
as the Big Green is averaging 4,016 fans through eight games.
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME – The Big Green has spent 33
seasons in the friendly confines of Thompson Arena. Since Coach Gaudet
took over the reins, the attendance and the winning have increased. Since
1997 the Big Green has an 86-49-17 record at home. Overall Dartmouth
is .548 on home ice, playing to a record of 434-344-29. THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME 2 – In 2006-07 the Big Green has
dropped four home games. At home this season, the Big Green has averaged
2.44 goals per game while allowing 2.88 goals per game.
PACKING THE HOUSE – Of Dartmouth’s nine home games this season,
the Big Green had more than 4,000 fans for three of those contests.
BRINGING THEM IN – Dartmouth’s game against North Dakota on
Dec. 29 saw a sellout crowd of 4,500 fans pour into Thompson Arena for
the highest attended game so far this season.
30 AND COUNTING – The 2005-06 season is the sixth straight that
Dartmouth played more than 30 games. The Big Green set a season record
in 2004-05 with 35 games played. The previous high was 34 which was set
by the 2002-03 and 2000-01 squads. Last year Dartmouth had a total of
33 games.
