SADDLEBROOK PREP
SCHOOL PROGRAM
Saddlebrook High School was founded in 1992 as a public school in a
business partnership with the School Board of Pasco County. In 1997,
the school became private and was renamed Saddlebrook Preparatory
School. Situated in a highly secure gated community of 480 acres
and owing to the availability of residential facilities for students from
around the United States and abroad, the school very quickly began to
draw students from all points of the compass. Saddlebrook Preparatory
School’s student body comes from over 20 different countries, forming
a multi-cultural learning community in which to live, study, and train at
either the Tennis or Golf Academies.
Saddlebrook Preparatory School is proud to be accredited by SACS
CASI, an accreditation division of AdvancEd and the Florida Council
of Independent Schools (FCIS). High-level academics benchmark
our college preparatory program which attracts students from grades 3
through 12 who are instructed in classes with a student-to-teacher ratio of
10-to-1. For international students, we offer English for speakers of other
languages (ESOL) classes as part of the curriculum.
SADDLEBROOK PREP
CURRICULUM
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear
understanding of what students need to learn in a high quality
educational setting. The state led process has support from the
Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the National
Governors Association Center (NGA), Achieve, Inc, ACT, the College
Board, the National Association of State Boards of Education, the
Alliance for Excellent Education, the Hunt Institute, the National Parent
Teacher Association, the State Higher Education Executive Officers,
the American Association of School Administrators, and the Business
Roundtable. Saddlebrook Preparatory School has joined with other
schools in Florida to ensure more consistent exposure to materials and
learning experiences through curriculum, instruction, and teacher
preparation to prepare students to graduate college and be career ready.
Mathematics as taught at Saddlebrook Preparatory School conforms
to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards and the
Common Core State Standards. A vigorous mathematics education in
algebra 1 and 2, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, and probability and
statistics create a cutting edge information pool, supported by publisher
Internet-based etexts.
The beauty, excitement, and power derived from the use of the English
language is enhanced by a four-year sequence of required and elective
courses including skill components in writing, grammar, language study,
speech, listening, and American and British literature. The school’s
college-focused, standards-based curriculum trains students to write
college-level essays, craft journalistic quality articles, read complex texts of
all genres, and discuss academic issues with fluency.
The humanities are a vivid, crucial part of everyone’s identity. Human
creative expression from prehistoric times to the present, trace the
origins of art as a means of controlling the forces of nature as well as the
mysteries of life and death.
Art, a visual component of fine arts, captures the interest and creativity of
students through studying and creating two- and three-dimensional art
forms. Students learn art history, critique art pieces, learn about careers
in art, practice techniques, and create artwork using various mediums.
Science education is inquiry-based and provides conceptual and
quantitative understanding through multimedia and lab-based scientific
experiences. Physical science, biology, and chemistry with elective
courses in anatomy and physiology, physics, marine biology, and zoology
afford students challenging opportunities to showcase skills, knowledge,
and reasoning.
The social studies, multi-disciplinary in nature, necessitate critical
thinking, research proficiency, effective communication, and problem
solving. In support of these values, a wide range of social studies
disciplines, world history, American history, economics, and American
government, are supported and enlivened by electives in psychology, law,
contemporary history, and political science.
Second language study in a world language creates cognitive cultural
awareness, an appreciation of diversity, and when carried throughout life,
opens many doors to success. Four levels of Spanish language education,
Spanish 1 through 4, and two levels of French, French 1 and French 2,
become increasingly complex nearing native speaker oral and written
fluency.
Technology rich learning experiences provide essential hi-tech skills.
Mimio interactive instructional technology is available in every
classroom. Middle and Upper School students provide their own laptop
computers operational in our wireless network and outfitted with the
latest version of Microsoft Office. Networked computers in the learning
lab present opportunities for English learners to develop language skills.
The Media Center maintains an online resource database through
Discovery Education Streaming, Gale, Destiny, and Safari Montage, a
web-based video-on-demand system.
Saddlebrook Preparatory School’s Tuesday morning clubs target several
different areas to increase student involvement, build class cohesion, and
bring the community into the school. Various clubs embrace music,
yoga, culinary arts, student social committee, drama, international
adventure and travel, class sponsors and senior buddies of elementary
children, spirit week, and guidance/all school gatherings.
ESOL
ESOL students practice reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing
things in English which surround and are included in the Saddlebrook
Preparatory School environment. Students are provided opportunities to
ask questions, to practice English in a safe setting, to engage individually
and in small group settings, and to practice English skills acquisition
in the learning lab on assigned levels on SuccessMaker software and
Rosetta Stone. During the remainder of the day outside of the ESOL
classroom, students engage in regular courses where English support is
provided through adapted tests, quizzes, vocabulary acquisition, and
through utilizing peer support structure. The school’s small classes enable
differentiated treatment of students from AP level to Level 3 and 4 English
Language Learners.
SAT PREP
SAT Prep, a one semester elective, designed to develop test-taking skills
in preparation for the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT), the College
Board’s standardized test on which post secondary admission is based at
many colleges and universities. Students are assessed diagnostically at the
beginning of the semester, and throughout the course discuss different
tactics that relate to each of the sections, drills in math, reading, and
writing questions, and take practice tests to improve their scores. During
the semester, full length practice test activities expand student confidence
levels, lower distractions, and increase efficient use of test time. The
culminating activity is to register for the SAT through the guidance
counselor.
GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
Guidance and counseling at Saddlebrook Preparatory School is involved
in the college preparation and career planning activities of students who
are pursuing their academic and athletic goals. For many international
students, the complexity of documentation can be daunting, the testing
proficiencies challenging, and the language a barrier to understanding.
The guidance counselor provides our students with expert assistance to
ensure that college guidance needs are met and fulfilled.
The primary goals of guidance and counseling will be unique to
each student and will satisfy individual developmental needs. We
understand that guidance and counseling is vital for our students
in order to achieve personalized, relevant learning and to develop
meaningful educational plans while in school and beyond. We believe
that the academic, career, personal-social, and community involvement
skills, as well as the knowledge students need for success in schools and
in life are attainable when guidance and counseling is provided in a
consistent and developmental manner.
We acknowledge that
guidanc and counseling
is not a service offered by
one person or department
but a program coordinated
with all educators and
supporting personnel.

SADDLEBROOK
TENNIS
The best junior players come to Saddlebrook Prep to help advance their
goals of playing on the pro tour or receive a Division 1 or 2 NCAA
scholarship. Players are challenged daily in preparation to compete with
other top ranked juniors at national and international ITF and USTA
tournaments. Our tennis program is uniquely designed to fully integrate
a high level college preparatory school with our elite and demanding
tennis training schedule.
The Saddlebrook Tennis system is a comprehensive program that gives
students the opportunity to work on the total game of tennis including:
technique, endurance, competition, athletic performance, fitness, and
mental conditioning
Weekly Theme – Students focus each week on a specific theme which
includes solidifying technique on the ground strokes, improving net
play and strategy and above all focusing on the serve and return.
Students are grouped based on their ability levels and they work with a
dedicated professional to push them to the peak of their on court athletic
performance capabilities.
Competitive Environment – Students train with their peers pushing
them each and every day to raise their bar on their game. They
engage in very competitive ladder matches in both singles and doubles
as well as practice matches. During the matches the players gain
invaluable experience and are mentored by the staff so they gain a true
understanding of all the nuances of the game.
Coaches – The students work with a very experienced full time core
group of coaches’ everyday of the week. The coaches also travel to the
tournaments so they can see the players in a different environment and
advise them accordingly on s trategies to employ. Our coaches also send
reports on a monthly basis to the parents and guardians of the students so
they can be advised of their student’s progress.
Player Accountability – Students have every opportunity to take
their games to the next level but it comes down to their individual
commitment and willingness to work through adversity and goal setting.
Starting with their performance profile, students must constantly
set goals for themselves and focus on the end result and hard work.
Additional tools such as match evaluations from our staff members and
mental skill training will help the students achieve the goals of a lifetime.
SADDLEBROOK GOLF ACADEMY
Saddlebrook Prep students take part in a high performance golf program
giving them the opportunity to develop their total game including:
technique, golf course management, competition, physical fitness and
mental conditioning.
Training – Led by two of the most celebrated coaches on the PGA
Tour, Steve Bann and Dale Lynch, Saddlebrook Golf Academy offers
the most comprehensive player development and instructional program
anywhere. Steve Bann and Dale Lynch successfully created a national
golf program in Australia, and have produced more champions than any
other program internationally, including three of their current students
and PGA TOUR winners Aaron Baddeley, Geoff Ogilvy and Stuart
Appleby. The BannLynch team work with the students and develop a
plan for each. Coaches play with their group on a regular basis to work
on course strategy and students have monthly seminars with our Sports
Psychologist to sharpen their mental skills. Students work with their
same coaches everyday during each quarter. Their coaches are able to
track student progress and focus on improving all aspects of their game
with consistency.
Player Accountability – Students have a great opportunity to take their
game to the next level but it will be up to them to reach their potential.
Starting with their performance profile, students must constantly set
goals for themselves and focus on achieving those goals. Additional
tools such as tournament evaluations and mental skills training will help
players become tougher competitors.
Player Analysis – Players at Saddlebrook Prep have the opportunity to
compete on a daily basis with their peers. Playing golf among players
of a similar age and ability level on a regular basis pushes them towards
constant and consistent improvement. Our goal is for players to gain
as much competitive experience as possible so they have the ability to
perform at the highest level, leaving behind obstacles that have held
them back in the past. Skills testing will be completed on a regular basis
and will allow coaches and players to concretely identify strengths and
weaknesses and set measurable goals towards improvement.

FITNESS AND CONDITIONING
Fitness Training
There are many different components that come into play when working
to become an outstanding athlete. The performance training program
at Saddlebrook Prep Golf Academy understands the dynamics, and we
work together with students to help them achieve their very best. Our
systematic approach to training involves the following:
• Movement - Develop sport-specific linear and multi-directional speed
• Strength - Develop an entire spectrum of sport-specific strength
• Power - Improve an athlete’s ability to produce explosive movements
• Conditioning - Develop proper energy systems to maximize sportspecific workloads
• Nutrition – Provide guidelines to develop high-performance /
nutritionally balanced eating habits
• Suppleness - Apply proper flexibility components to maximize
movement efficiency
• Pre-habilitation - Address postural imbalances to decrease injury
potential
• Regeneration - Establish methods to enhance recovery from training
We provide periodic evaluations to ensure each student’s desired goals
and to measure his or her progress and achievements. By educating our
athletes, we better prepare them for success in the golf world.
For athletes desiring additional performance training, we offer elite
training packages with our performance coaches. These personal plans are
designed to meet the individual needs of each athlete.
Mental Conditioning
Fitness and technique alone are not enough to win consistently. A golf
player must work to strengthen emotional stability and must maintain a
confident and winning attitude.
Golf is a sport that demands players to be consistent, accurate, resilient,
and perseverant. It is an individual sport; there is no team to look to
for support. A golfer must rely on his or her own talents and mental
toughness to fight through every point in every match.
At Saddlebrook Prep Golf Academy, we turn to Dr. Nick Dewan, an
experienced sports psychiatrist, who works regularly with students on
various issues.
• Goal-Setting - Long- and short-term
• Developing a Game Plan - On and off the course
• Dealing with Obstacles - like injury, weaknesses in a game, having
an “off” day
• Understanding that “Image is Everything”
