MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH
OCTOBER 2015
Pastor’s Notes
Pastor Mark Elkins
All this month we are going to be
focusing on a sermon series I’ve
entitled
“Instruments
in
the
Redeemer’s
Hands”.
Since
I
announced it a few weeks ago,
several people have asked me what
the title means, so I thought I would
give you a brief sneak peek.
The reality is that when God saves
us, He does not leave us where we
are, doing what we are doing.
Instead, He has a plan for every soul
that He calls into His kingdom: a plan
that involves them personally, the
body of Christ in which He plants
them, and the world of lost souls He
will use them to impact. No two
souls are alike and no two plans are
alike either. God weaves together a
diverse tapestry of experiences, gifts,
and talents to fulfill His perfect plan
of redemption and in the process
each one of us become an Instrument
in His hands.
We are transformed from lost
souls that are slaves to our sins and
to the prince of this world, into useful
and
powerful
instruments
of
righteousness. This transformation
occurs when we do not allow
ourselves to be conformed to Satan’s
world system, but instead, we allow
God’s Word and the supernatural
power of His indwelling Holy Spirit to
renew our minds through study,
prayer, and obedience (Rom. 12:1-2).
As Instruments in the Redeemer’s
Hands we are then able to work out
our salvation in fear and trembling,
seeing God prune and chisel us into
the image of His Son (Rom. 6:1-14;
Phil. 2:12-13; John 15:1-11).
As
Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands
we are able to do the work of service
to build up the church into the
fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:11-16). As
Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands
we are able to share the Gospel
among the community and around
the world, making disciples of all
nations and teaching them to obey all
that Christ has commanded (Matt.
28:19-20).
There is no greater privilege or
responsibility than to be Instruments
in the Redeemer’s Hands, and I pray
that this month, His Word will
continue to prepare us for the
exciting plans He has in store for
Grace Baptist Church!

Announcements
Please prayerfully complete your deacon ballot
and either mail it back to the church next week
or deposit it in the green box in the hallway by
Sunday, October 11th.
The Apple Dumpling Festival will be on
Saturday, October 17th, and we will be there
with a GBC booth passing out free waters to
festivalgoers sharing the message, “Our Water is
Free, like the Grace of God!” If you would like to
join us, there will be a sign-up sheet in the
hallway. It is a fun event of service, fellowship,
and representing our great God!
We will be having a special Water Bottle
Labeling on October 11th, after church, in
preparation for the Apple Dumpling Festival.
Mark your calendars! Our annual Trunk and
Treat will be on Saturday, October 31st from
6-8pm in the church parking lot. Please join us
for some safe, family fun as we pass out free
candy, roast marshmallows, drink warm apple
cider, and enjoy fellowship together. Chili and
soup will be provided to the volunteers at 5pm.
We would love your help by bringing your trunk
full of delicious sweets and inviting families for a
fun night! There will be a sign-up sheet for
trunks in the hallway.
Our church will be making and selling
Brunswick Stew and Vegetable Soup. We
need the help of volunteers like you to make it
all happen. It’s a fun process that takes a lot of
helping hands and a lot of good fellowship to
complete. We will be preparing the ingredients
on Friday, November 6th, stirring through the
night, and packaging the stew and soup
Saturday morning, November 7th. Please see
Ron Meadows if you would like to volunteer.
Brunswick Stew and Vegetable Soup are
on sale now for Pre-Order! There is an order
sheet in the hallway outside the sanctuary. It is
$7 for each quart of soup or stew.
We are pleased to announce GBC will be hosting
a Women's Retreat on November 14th from
10am-2pm. Our theme is about having an
“Attitude of Gratitude,” and our speaker will
be Deborah Martin, Director of Women’s
Mentoring at Shepherd’s Theological Seminary.
Please contact Karen Walker if you would like
to attend or if you have any questions.
