Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Lord said to her in reply,
"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried
about many things. There is need of only
one thing. Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her."
Luke 10:41-42
This Sunday’s passage narrates the hospitality
offered to Jesus by Martha and Mary.
For Martha, hospitality is best expressed
by attentiveness to details while for Mary
hospitality is best expressed by attentiveness
to the person. Martha even asks Jesus to tell
Mary to help her with the details of hospitality.
Jesus responds with the confusing statement
that Mary has chosen the better part. What is
clear from this narrative is that hospitality
demands attentiveness to the person flowing
into the best ways to be of service. Martha and
Mary are two sides of the same coin of ministry
and discipleship. Let us learn to minister well
by being attentive to the needs of each person
we encounter.

Golden Wedding Anniversaries
Bishop Malesic invites all couples celebrating their
50th Wedding Anniversary during the calendar year
2016 to participate in a special Golden Jubilee Mass
to be held at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral,
Greensburg on Sunday, September 25, at 3:00 p.m.
The Jubilarians, their children, relatives or friends
should contact the couple’s Parish Office:
St. Mary, Kittanning at 724-548-7649 or St. Mary,
Yatesboro at 724-783-7191 in order to register
couples for this celebration by Thursday,
July 21. Even though they may not be able to attend
the Mass, they will receive a scroll signed by the
Bishop commemorating their anniversary.
Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 17, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On Wednesday, July 13, Bishop Malesic celebrated his first anniversary as
our bishop. He has been busy in his first year. He has been to Kittanning
once and is coming again for the St. Andrew Dinner for vocations on
July 24. He is scheduled to make a pastoral visit to Yatesboro in October.
May we continue to pray for him and that he will continue to do as his
Episcopal motto states, "Serve The Lord with Gladness."
This week, July 21-23, the Shannock Valley Community Days are taking
place and everyone is invited to enjoy the great food that is being sold
by St. Mary, Mother of God Parish. Hamburgers in sauce and haluski will be waiting for you at our booth.
Thanks to all of the parishioners who are helping in this important event.
Continue to spread the word that Father Bill Kiel will be coming to Kittanning on Wednesday, July 27 and
will celebrate the 7 p.m. Mass. Invite a friend to come and pray for healing, especially in body, mind or
spirit. This is part of our Jubilee Year of Mercy celebration.
The Catholic Men's Fellowship will be holding another retreat in the fall. On Saturday, October 8, Chris
Padgett, a national speaker, will come to Kittanning and lead us deeper into our Catholic faith. Reserve
this date on your calendar.
Congratulations to Divine Redeemer Catholic School for being voted the best private school in a recent
reader poll in the Leader Times. Also, Mrs. Fran Recupero, our parishioner and a teacher at Divine
Redeemer, was voted one of the best teachers in the county. These are great achievements for our
Catholic school. If you would like information on enrolling your child at Divine Redeemer, call the school
at 724-763-3761. Come join the Divine Redeemer family today!
Here is some news concerning some projects at our partner parishes. In Kittanning, the project to
replace the doors is slowly moving forward. In Yatesboro, we are waiting for the paving company to
come and pave the parking lot across from the front of the church. It is my hope that both projects
are completed soon. As your pastor/administrator, I also must be patient.
Father Doug
It’s all about gratitude.
It’s all about giving back.
It’s all about God.
On July 1, we started a new fiscal year. Your continuous generosity to our partner
parishes is greatly appreciated. Even though during the summer months there are
many demands on our time, please keep up with your giving. Remember that if
you attend a Mass in any other parish in our diocese, you can put your envelope in
the basket. That parish will return it to either of our partner parishes. No loose cash
is returned, so make sure you put in your envelope and support your parish. You
can also mail your donation to the parish office or place it in the collection basket
the following weekend.
Thank you for your continued support of our parish faith community
with your time, talents and treasure.

Apple Dumpling Booth Sponsorship
Opportunity
We would like to invite anyone interested in joining either
of our groups to join us for food, fun and fellowship. Both
of our groups are dedicated to supporting our church and
community, both locally and worldwide.
Once again this year we are seeking festival
sponsorships to help us offset the rental cost
of our Apple Dumpling Booth during the
festival. A sponsorship donation of $70 will
entitle an individual, family or business to be
acknowledged in our bulletin and listed at
the Apple Dumpling Booth.
So if you are interested, please join us with your family
or a friend. No cost to attend. Just contact one of the
following so we have enough food to accommodate all.
Corina Rizzo 724-543-4851, Ann Nemec 724-548-8955
or Joseph Kacprowski 724-548-7649.
If you are interested in being a sponsor this year,
please contact the Parish Office at

Online Giving is a great way to catch-up on offertory
during the summer months or to schedule
recurring or one-time donations.

Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith
This fall, over 125 children and youth,

the Catholic Faith. Faith Formation Classes
begin September 18, 2016.
YOU can help them learn and grow in faith by
becoming a catechist or an aide in our Faith
Formation Program. As you nurture the faith
of our young, you will learn and grow as well!
As many of our catechists have said, “I learn
so much from the children!” If a weekly
commitment is not possible, we will be happy
to work with your schedule. Training,
materials and support are provided.
