Ambassadors are a group of dedicated
volunteers from various businesses
throughout the Grand Strand community.
Their mission is to welcome and nurture
current members and recruit new chamber
members. Ambassadors serve as goodwill
representatives at various chamber functions
and aid in the support of members.
Ambassadors earn points by calling and visiting
other chamber members, attending monthly
meetings, recruiting other Ambassadors,
having a suggested business become a
chamber member, and participating in
chamber projects.
At the end of each month, these points are
tallied and an Ambassador of the Month is
named.

Tiered up for membership
The new tourism membership dues
plan is a tiered membership structure
that allows our tourism members
to decide at which level they want
to join the chamber. This exciting
new plan will expand the scope for
member advertising, specifically in
the 2008 Stay & Play Guide.
Gives members control and choices.
A tiered structure accommodates
companies regardless of size (or
individuals regardless of professional
specialty) and ensures appropriate
investment for the resulting delivery
of services and products. Participants
customize their memberships by
selecting their levels of involvement
and investment.
Realigns business purposes to
match member needs. A tiered
membership demonstrates a return
on investment for members, since the
tiers are segmented to match specific
products and services to member
needs and desires.
Creates one clear and concise
message. With the tiered concept
and compartmentalized areas of
information, members can easily
see the benefits they receive.
Programs and services to help
small businesses grow and succeed.

Lauren Miller
named chamber’s
new marketing VP
Eager to promote and attract new
generations of visitors, Lauren
Miller is looking forward to tackling
the challenges of vice president of
marketing for the Myrtle Beach Area
Chamber of Commerce.
“I am excited about the Myrtle
Beach area and eager to take on
this new challenge,” Miller said.
“The dynamic diversification
of product offerings, with new
properties and attractions underway,
differentiates Myrtle Beach from
other destinations. Communicating
these unique benefits and increasing
awareness of the Myrtle Beach area
are key components to attracting
new visitors. I look forward to
working diligently on the challenges
of promoting the area, including
increasing occupancy rates and
attracting new generations of
visitors.”
Miller received her undergraduate
degree from the University of
13
l
Virginia and a master’s of business
administration from Pepperdine
University in California. She
has worked for such prestigious
companies as Dow Jones &
Company, where she oversaw 134
employees and a $4 million annual
budget for The Wall Street Journal,
and New York Times working with
86 markets including Canada and
Mexico. For the past five years, Miller
was the vice president of newspaper
relations and business development
for PARADE Magazine Southeast
Region, where she was responsible
for marketing and promoting the
magazine.
“I am thrilled that Lauren has
accepted this key position and will
be heading up our marketing team,”
said Brad Dean, chamber president
& CEO. “Lauren has the strengths
we need to help move the Myrtle
Beach destination from a regional
vacation spot to a nationally and
internationally recognized tourism
hot spot. Her extensive experience
working with national media and
marketing major brands is a great fit
for what we’re trying to achieve along
the Grand Strand.”
Miller, who recently moved to the
Grand Strand, is currently on the
board of trustees for the Franklin
G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin
Art Museum and is a member of
the Southern Newspaper Publishers
Association. Miller has served
on the board of directors for the
Florida Press Association, Cal West

and the Literary Coalition of Broward

Cutting
Ceremonies
Your Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce conducts ribboncutting ceremonies as a value-added benefit included in your
membership investment. We bring the camera, official scissors and,
of course, the ribbon.
A grand opening, an expansion, an anniversary or a move to a new
building is made more special with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. If
you’re a home-based business, give us a call and we’ll hold a special
ceremony here at the chamber just for you!
Ribbon-cutting announcements are included in the Grand
Strander, which is mailed to our 2,400 plus members, and photos
appear in the online edition of the popular newsletter. The
chamber’s Ambassadors attend ribbon-cutting ceremonies on behalf
of the members. Having Ambassadors at the ceremony provides an
excellent networking and publicity opportunity.
Kickoff a grand opening of your business by contacting Pat Creed,
membership programs manager, at [email protected] or

Is your business ready for the big storm?
The 2007 hurricane season is in the starting blocks, and it looks like it could
be a rough one. Storm forecasters from Colorado State University predict that the
2007 Atlantic hurricane season will likely be “very active” with 17 named storms,
including nine hurricanes with five of them major. The tropical weather specialists
call for a 74 percent chance that a major hurricane, with sustained winds greater than
110 mph, will strike the U.S. coastline between northern Maine and south Texas.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
Our Hurricane Info Center Web page is packed full of tips on preparing for a storm,
a shelter checklist and emergency telephone numbers. During an actual storm, we’ll be
posting the latest news and weather reports on our Web site. Also in this section, you
will find a Post Hurricane Business Survey. After a hurricane, send this survey back to
us so we can pass along the status of your business to those who inquire.
Check out MyrtleBeachAreaChamber.com and click on Member Resources and
Hurricane Info Center.
Your Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is hands-on in providing members with

McNair Law Firm, P.A. represents clients
with a broad range of local, regional,
national and international legal concerns.
The firm’s South Carolina offices are
in Anderson, Bluffton, Charleston,
Columbia, Georgetown, Greenville,
Hilton Head Island, and Myrtle Beach.
And they also have an office in Charlotte,
N.C.
McNair Law Firm, P.A. was founded
in Columbia, S.C., in January of 1971
when Robert McNair completed his term
as governor of South Carolina.
Commitment to Excellence
McNair is committed to the pursuit
of excellence. All attorneys in their
firm serve on various charitable, civic,
professional and business associations
or organizations contributing to the
communities in which they reside,
ranging from membership in various
local civic groups to national associations
and foundations.
Client-Centered
There is a simple, though multifaceted,
key to the McNair’s success: capability,
capacity and concern. The cornerstone
of their capability is the outstanding
legal talents of their attorneys in a broad
range of practice areas. They are able
to recognize legal issues outside of their
areas of expertise and involve attorneys
from the firm’s other areas of practice to
provide complete and effective service
to their clients. The depth of McNair’s
talent speaks to their capacity to deliver
quality service. McNair has a longstanding tradition of responsiveness and
devotion to the best interests of their
clients. They care. It is their goal to
provide sophisticated, creative, practical
advice in a timely fashion. At the same
time, they are mindful of the cost of legal
services and strive to handle all matters in
the most economic manner possible.
McNair emphasizes the team approach
in their practice and are committed
to controlling legal service costs while
delivering quality performance with
desired results. One member of this
talented team is Allison A. Murphy, an
attorney with McNair Law Firm, P.A.
since 2002. Murphy took time out of her
busy schedule to share her insight into
the company and into the legal arena.
Tell us a little bit about yourself – work
history, how long you have lived in the
area, how long have you worked for

Chamber Member Since: September 1994
I was raised in Pawleys Island and
received my undergraduate degree in
English from the College of Charleston
and a Juris Doctor from Cumberland
School of Law at Samford University in
Birmingham, Ala. While at Cumberland,
I was a selected and published member of
The American Journal of Trial Advocacy,
later serving as one of the two Articles
Editors on the Volume 24 Editorial
Board.
After graduating from Cumberland,
I moved to Charlotte, N.C., where I
practiced real estate law for one year. In
September 2002, I joined our McNair as
an Associate in the Myrtle Beach office
and worked in litigation for three years
before moving back to real estate. I am
now admitted to the bar in both North
and South Carolina, and deal exclusively
in transactional law, which includes
residential and commercial real estate
transactions, corporate law, preparation
of restrictive covenants for developments,
and lender representation.
What makes McNair Law Firm
different from the other law offices in
the area? Why should someone choose
your firm?
McNair has been called “a big firm with
a local feel” it is one of the largest in the
state, which makes it a huge provider of
resources for our clients. Being a “one
stop shop” (general litigation, corporate,
real estate, environmental, employment,
banking, estate planning, etc.) is
beneficial to both our clients and to us,
and is a huge selling point. Secondly,
the majority of attorneys in our office
are from South Carolina, if not the area,
which keeps our practice diversified: We
are able attract and serve both local and
national clients.
Since we drew your card from those
who attended chamber events, you
must have attended at least one
chamber activity. What benefits/
services have you taken advantage of?
Although the firm has been a member
of the chamber since 1994, I’ve only
recently begun to get involved, so I’m
looking forward to the benefits and
services that I can take advantage of with
regard to the chamber of commerce!
