Revenues and Expense Summary
Park Place program highlights for 2013-2014 include:
Transportation - Park Place buses transported 3595 seniors safely to and from medical appointments, 456 to grocery
shopping at area stores, from senior buildings, 12 to nursing homes to visit loved ones, and shuttles to and from Park
Place for events, regular programs and important socialization.
Park Place Fitness & Wellness Program - 5218 units of service were provided for seniors benefiting from the Fitness & Wellness programs at Park Place, which includes the Arthritis Foundation Senior Size exercise classes,
Zumba Gold for Seniors, Country Line Dancing, Park Place Soul Dancing, Yoga & Meditation and the Park Place
Fitness Studio. This also includes educational workshops on health topics and screenings with the Park Place Wellness program, held at Park Place and other locations throughout the township.
Park Place Trip Program - 546 people enjoyed outings to cultural events, plays, restaurants, museums and sporting
events, including extended overnight trips to Alaska and New Orleans. Due to high demand, Park Place has added
several exciting new trips for seniors in 2014. May 2014 we will travel to Mount Rushmore and the Bad Lands and
in November we will take a Caribbean Cruise to Honduras, Belize and Mexico.
Recreational Activities - Many seniors come to Park Place to enjoy themselves. Card games, the Senior Mouse Club
classes, Wood Shop, quilters, Red Hat Society, Book Club, Cribbage, Bingo and Billiards attracted seniors 23,097
times throughout the year!
Support Groups & Support Services - 1800 seniors benefited from support groups, addressing Low Vision, Alzheimer’s, Grief, Grandparents raising grandchildren, and our Hispanic support group. Seniors also enjoyed community services provided to them such as, RTA reduce and ride free passes, our Café and AARP tax services.
Events - 1942 residents attended events created and planned for the enjoyment of seniors in 2013/2014. Included
were the Celebrating Women Luncheon, Hawaiian Luau, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Breakfast and many
more exciting events held throughout the year.
For the year ending February 28, 2014 Waukegan Township Park Place provided
36,666 units of service for our seniors.

212 individuals were assisted by the Eddie Washington Center.
Six month After-Care Program assisted alumni in maintaining housing, employment and by providing
mentoring support.
In 2013, we celebrated 20 years of transforming lives within Waukegan Township by celebrating with
our many alumni, graduates, friends, and supporters, at Shiloh Baptist Church. We were joined by
many elected officials throughout Lake County and enjoyed a moving keynote address from Apostle
Harry Stackhouse.
Repatriate Support and Empowerment, Anger Management, , Man to Man mentoring Programs encour
age graduation rates and help reduce recidivism.
23 graduates with children reconnected with families and provided financial and emotional support.
Alumni in Action continue to give back to the Center by providing shift coverage, assisting with
fundraising efforts and providing minor repairs to our facility.
Residents consistently “give back” to the Community by providing over 3,400 volunteer hours to
various agencies including: Supervisor’s Office, Soup Kitchens, Park Place Senior Center, Home
Sweet Home Program (snow removal and lawn maintenance for seniors ), Coalition to Reduce
Recidivism, St. Anastasia, Shiloh Baptist Church (soup kitchen & shelter set-up) and North Shore
Church of Christ.

Total Families Served: 17 At the end of the reporting year, 35 individuals exited the Staben House program. Of those 35 individuals, 24 secured
permanent housing and six months later they continue to reside in permanent housing. In the past two years, Staben
House reports indicate that all families that transitioned to permanent housing continue to remain housed. The Staben
House utilization rate was 92% and 100% percent of the families entering the program increased their income.

General Assistance/Other program highlights for 2013-2014 include:
In 2013/2014, 3,953 cases were seen by our case managers. Of those 525 were new cases, 261 were re-opened
from previous years and 2,773 are on going. Assistance for individuals was provided in the following areas:

The average wage for the 139 R.R.R. participants who became employed was $8.25/hr
The average wage for the 16 General Assistance participants who became employed was $8.25/hr.
The average wage for the 18 SNAP participants who became employed was $9.25/hr.
State of IL Food Stamp Education & Training/SNAP Program
The SNAP Employment & Training Program's goal is to help improve the work skills and assist clients in
finding a job through short-term training and work assignments as well as GED, resume writing and interviewing classes. Supportive service payments help clients with work related expenses such as transportation or special clothing expenses.


