Important Advice to students and parents:
A student is responsible for the condition of their room as soon as they receive
their room key and complete a Room Condition Report (RCR). The resident
advisor will meet with each student to review all aspects of their room, such as:
window, floor, walls, furniture, etc. The condition of the room will be noted at
the beginning of the semester and at the end of the year, or when a student checks
out. Any change of condition beyond normal wear and tear may result in Room
Damage fines. Rooms are also inspected at least 3 times a year for health and safety
checks. We recommend that students are supplied with cleaning products and are
familiar with how to clean their room and how to do laundry. (For instructions:
http://www.ehow.com/how_46_laundry.html) Some dorm rooms are carpeted and
others are tiled, so you will need the appropriate floor cleaning products. Both
First Year hall rooms are carpeted.
How to Protect Your Personal Property
Residence Life recommends you check with your family’s home owner’s insurance
policy to see if you are covered in the event something happens. If you are not
covered by homeowner’s, you should invest in renter’s insurance or use National
Student Services, Inc. NSSI provides a student personal property plan and they can
be found at www.nssinc.com or call 1-800-256-6774.

Guilford College Residence Life
is committed to the sustainability
initiatives set forth by the campus
community. Please consider
bringing or purchasing “green”
items for your room and recycle
during your time with us. We
encourage all residential students
|to review our sustainability
initiatives located at
sustainability.guilford.edu.
This list was created as a guide
to assist students with some
ideas of what to bring to campus
(suggested, not required.) These
items are in line with our policies
in our student handbook and
housing agreement. If you have
any questions regarding this list
contact the Residence Life Office.
It is suggested that roommates
contact each other prior to movein to avoid duplication of items
such as microwaves, TVs, stereos,
fridges, etc.
Pack clothes appropriate for our
southern climate and changing
seasons each semester. Meaning:
leave the long johns and winter
parka at home until you go home
for fall or winter break. You don’t
need to bring your whole closet
to school at one time. If you are
coming from a long distance or
your packing space is limited,
consider buying some of your
supplies from one of our many
retail stores located a short distance
from campus.
