FROM OUR ALUMNI PRESIDENT
Sarah Piggush Mickler
Dear Alumni,
Thank you to all that supported our Annual fund and
Phonathon. We would also
like to express a big thank
you to all the volunteers
that helped with making the
Phonathon a great success.
I know we are all looking forward to spring! The
Alumni board is hard at work preparing for our
summer Irish Golf Classic and our 2nd Annual Ken
Klipp Classic. We have a lot of fun-filled plans for
the fall in the works as well!
We are very excited to bring back our faculty
“wish list” in this edition. We can show our great
teachers that we support them with that special
something for their class room.
The Alumni group is looking to expand! Please
contact me if you are interested in becoming
a part of the board or if you would like to get
involved in some of our events. We continue to
work toward keeping our heritage of Catholic
education thriving for future Alumni.
God bless and Go Irish!

Irish Update
FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Terry Granger
Dear McNamara Alumni,
Once again, I offer my sincerest gratitude for your
continued support and belief in our mission of providing a quality Catholic education to the students of the
greater Kankakee community.
I tell everyone I meet with that Bishop McNamara
continues to be even better at graduating young adults who are committed to making their communities, and our world in general, a better place.
The spirit of McNamara is strong and is gaining momentum each and every
month, week, and day.
McNamara is academically and spiritually strong. Our faculty and staff
believe in our values and mission. They consistently look for ways to give our
students the opportunity to experience leadership in their daily lives. The end
result of this is that our young men and women begin to live out and model
our mission themselves.
We could not accomplish our mission or guide our students to acquire these
McNamara characteristics, without the continued support of our alumni,
parents, grandparents and friends.Your commitment to the young people of
Bishop McNamara enables us to become even better at graduating young
men and women who will change the world in which they live, for the better.
Thanks to your generosity, we will continue to be the finest school in the
greater Kankakee community. Due to your kindness, the next generation of
Irish will join you, the alumni of McNamara, as leaders in their communities
and throughout the world.
May God continue to bless you and your families!
Terry Granger ’76
Principal
FROM OUR COORDINATOR OF ADVANCEMENT
Sandy LaMotte Malpasuto
Dear Valued Alumni,
I would also like to express sentiments of gratitude for all
of the support we receive from our alumni near and far.
Each year I am especially amazed at the generosity we
see during our annual Phonathon. Our cafeteria fills on
two evenings with volunteers that include alumni, friends,
parents, past parents and students who willingly give their time to assist
in making this annual event such a success. The students are particularly
amazing to me. They typically start out the evening feeling a little nervous
as they may be making phone calls to people who they do not know. As
the evening progresses, you can see the joy in their eyes and the smiles on
their faces as they have made new friends with many of you… our alumni.
They are eager to return the following year to volunteer again so they can
reconnect with the people they enjoyed meeting through the Phonathon.
Again, we thank you for your kindness as our students are the true benefactors of your continued support.
In this edition of the Irish Update you will find photos of some of the excitement that took place here over the fall and winter months. We are preparing
for some really exciting activities. Our biggest event, our annual dinner auction
is right around the corner! Soon after that we will host the Irish Golf Classic, our
2nd Annual Ken Klipp Classic 5K Run/2Mile Walk, our Homecoming weekend
activities, and the Hammes Hall of Honor induction ceremony and reception.
There is lots of fun in store and we hope you will consider joining us at some
of these great events! If you are in the area or are in town for a stay… pay
us a visit. We would love to show you around and get you reacquainted with
Bishop McNamara High School!
Kindest regards,
Sandy LaMotte Malpasuto ’82

Bishop McNamara High School’s 31st Annual Dinner Auction, The Grand Ole Opry, will take
place on Friday, May 1st 2015 at the Hilton Garden Center Inn and Conference Center in
Kankakee. The evening will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:00 p.m. with the dinner and live auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. Post auction entertainment will be provided by
Ron Griggs of Sounds by Design.
This year’s chairmen are Carol and John Vallone along with co-chairmen, Tricia and Todd
Arseneau. You may recognize Carol and John as they were also chairmen of this yearly
event in 2010. All three of their daughters attended Bishop McNamara culminating with their
youngest, Michela, graduating this May with the class of 2015. The Vallones are excited and
eager to host the auction with this year’s theme, The Grand Ole Opry. Although they realize
the tremendous amount of thought and work that goes into this event, they expressed the
great relationships they have formed with the Bishop McNamara parents and students as
their motivation to take the helm of the auction for a second time.
In addition, we are pleased to announce Paul ’74 and Lisa Tutt as the 2015 Honorary Chairmen. We thank them for supporting Bishop McNamara High School in many, many ways over
the years!
We hope you can join us for this very exciting event! You may access auction information
on our website at www.bishopmac.com under the “Support McNamara” tab.

1989 Bishop McNamara Alumni Terry Bates ’89 received his 3rd Emmy at the 2014 Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards. The live broadcast was aired on WYCC PBS Chicago on
November 1, 2014 for the first time in 25 years. Presenting the Emmy to Mr. Bates was
former Chicago White Sox Player/Manager Ozzie Guillén. Terry won the Outstanding
Achievement for Sports Programs Category for producing the 2 hour special “Wrigley 100:
A Century Celebration”. This one time special features over 70 interviewees describing
the charms and great moments in Wrigley’s history, supported by historic photographs
and footage, home movies and newspaper archives. “It’s great to be nominated and
always an honor to win.” said Bates. “The people in the industry call it the ‘TV Prom’, it’s
always a good excuse to get all dressed up and party with your colleagues! Every time
I go, it always brings me back to the great high school dances I attended at Mac.” Terry
has been with WGN TV for 18 years and counting. He says it’s hard to call this work when
you get to do what you love everyday.
