Flexible water area
In the year 2045, Eindhoven no longer has a
problem with underground cables, wires and
pipelines that hinder the realization and
adaptation of building projects and other
innovations. Instead we have a new network of
water, energy, waste and bio-elements.
The City Hall square can be used in winter
time, during heavy rain or on a sunny day in
summer. The water can be held back for a
while celebrations are being held on the
square, truly making it a multifunctional
zone.
Flexibility &
Green Facades
When bringing back the former canals into the
city center of Eindhoven, many aspects of the
water way will benefit the city.
The new canal will generate energy in the
smart
grid-system
by
kinetics
and
heat-storage. Water can also be used to turn
the town hall square into a flexible space to
unwind and hold communal festivities. Because
of the flowing water the square is a
multifunctional space where the extended park
can be enjoyed, festivities can be held and with
enough storage for any incidental overflow .
At the same time a highly developed traffic lane
will use green energy to re-charge vehicles
while driving.

Winter
The buildings also get an efficient upgrade: the
green houses that are added on the south
facade of any (municipal) building provide the
building with a smart energy system that both
acts as a heat-buffer in summer and as a
heater in winter. These extra additions, the
green houses, can be used for growing crops,
having dinners, organizing meetings and for
recreational purposes while benefiting the
city's highly developed smart-grid.

Life between buildings
The surplus of energy coming from the energy generating
glass can be used to charge other functions.
Plants, flowers and crops benefit from the energy and flowing
canal water.

The different flows are distributed through the urban tissue in the public space.
We introduce a new infrastructure, which effortlessly bundles and unbundles flows of resources.
Bringing back surface water in the center of Eindhoven, belongs to the possibilities.
By revitalizing the old water system, we can restore flows of water, air and biodiversity.
This idea can be found in several policy documents. However,
by adding a new flexible smart grid to this idea, we add value to the sustainable city
