Its proven 8 liter, 6-cylinder engine and four-speed synchromesh gearbox were combined with stiffer springs and other sporting modifications. Custom coachwork by Freestone and Webb. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 1 ST – Superlative Touring Cars – Long Distance Luxury 1957 CADILLAC ELDORADO BROUGHAM A hand-built, limited edition vehicle which was rebuilt as a Town Car for its original owner by Derham of Philadelphia. Note that a single Connolly hide covers the entire roof. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 1 ST – Superlative Touring Cars – Long Distance Luxury 1929 STUTZ CONVERTIBLE VICTORIA An absolutely magnificently restored Stutz. Built for King Gustave of Sweden, the car was then owned by Andrew Mellon, the founder of Alcoa, appropriatly, the car is constructed of aluminum rather than wood framed. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1991 JAGUAR XJ220 Jaguar decided to manufacture the ultimate GT car in the early Nineties using a turbo-charged V6. Basically a 200 MPH road car, some were modified for racing. This example has been particularly successful in the hands of ex-works driver Win Percy. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1958 ASTON MARTIN DB2/4 MKIII A very rare Aston Martin in that it was delivered new with the high performance DB3S motor. A truly usable grand tourer. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1956 MERCEDES-BENZ 300SL Eight cylinders, fuel injection and a body shape with upward opening Gullwing doors. 1600 were built – only 29 with aluminum coachwork for racing and rallying. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1967 FERRARI GTB-4 This well-proportioned original Ferrari was delivered from the factory in gold. Its current driver has owned it for 25 years. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1996 MCLAREN F1 GTR One of the most outstanding examples of automotive design and engineering of all time. An astoundingly capable road and racing car which won Le Mans and the World Championship. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 2 GT – Style with Speed 1990 JAGUAR XJR15 A total of 40 of these 200 MPH sports coupes were built by Jaguar’s official race team – some were raced, many damaged, but this one survived unscathed. Carbon-kevlar monocoque, fully stressed V12 engine, and design by Peter Stevens. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 3 The Immortals – Some of the World’s Most Memorable Cars 1938 ALFA ROMEO 8C-2900 This 2.9 liter, 8-cylinder supercharged Alfa Romeo with sleek coachwork by Touring of Milan is one of those rare moments when a great chassis is blessed with a sensational body. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 3 The Immortals – Some of the World’s Most Memorable Cars 1948 CADILLAC SAOUTCHIK THREE-POSITION CABRIOLET First shown at the 1949 Paris Salon, this Three-Position Cabriolet is one of only two similar cars bodied by the flamboyant and Jacques Saoutchik. Its original owner sold the car to a Mr. McLean of Santa Barbara whose wife’s favorite colors were obviously lilac and purple. This extraordinary car has had only two owners since new. Advanced independent suspension, Hispano mechanicals and radical teardrop coachwork by Saoutchik. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 3 The Immortals – Some of the World’s Most Memorable Cars 1921 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER GHOST Originally delivered to a noble family in Spain, this splendid Rolls disappeared during the Spanish Civil War. It later reappeared in England and was rebodied in copper in the style of Labourdette, just as the original coachwork. It has been raced continuously since its debut on the West Coast. Originally graced with an English Corsica body, it was later completely rebuilt by Col. Symondson, a great Bugatti specialist, and rebodied with its current attractive Spyder coachwork. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 7 Great American Bodies – U.S. Built Evocations of Automobile Coachwork 1958 SCARAB One of America’s greatest sports cars, the Scarab was built by Trautmann and Barnes for Lance Reventlow. Chevrolet power, sophisticated chassis and beautiful aluminum bodywork made these cars extremely successful. Raced then by its current owner, Augie Pabst, and still raced by him today 40 years later. Finished to the highest standards and with Chrysler Hemi powered performance to match its very handsome bodywork. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 7 Great American Bodies – U.S. Built Evocations of Automobile Coachwork 1940 DUESENBERG TOWN CAR Quite probably the most original Duesenberg in the world. The German painter Rudolph Bauer commissioned a body to his own design by Rollson. The current owners are to be commended for preserving it in its extraordinary original state. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 7 Great American Bodies – U.S. Built Evocations of Automobile Coachwork 1929 ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM I YORK ROADSTER Only five were built and this is one of only three remaining by Brewster of Long Island. It appeareed at the1929 New York Auto Show, it has had only four owners since new. Designed by the famous J.S. Inskip, this is one of the best-balanced bodies ever produced in America. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 7 Great American Bodies – U.S. Built Evocations of Automobile Coachwork 1934 PACKARD LEBARON DUAL COWL PHAETON Recently built bodywork by master coachbuilder Fran Roxas on the exemplary original 1934 chassis of this 12-cylinder Packard. The line and execution are breathtaking and deserving of a place among the great American bodies. Bill’s legacy is the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 8 Fine Early Motorcars – Pioneering Designs for a New Form of Transport 1900 PANHARD ET LEVASSOR The oldest car which we have had the pleasure of seeing at Rockefeller Center. Originally owned by the Cupertino Winegrower Charles Baldwin, it was purchased as a result of Panhard’s spectacular success in the first great road race from Paris to Bordeaux in 1895. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 8 Fine Early Motorcars – Pioneering Designs for a New Form of Transport 1916 LANCIA Found by its current owner in 1973 in the basement of a synagogue in Topanga Canyon, this inspiring old Lancia has been raced regularly ever since. Notably, it was driven from Los Angeles to this year’s Louis Vuitton Classic – not bad for an 85 year-old! THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 8 Fine Early Motorcars – Pioneering Designs for a New Form of Transport 1902 MORS TYPE Z RACER The Mors marque came to prominence in the open road, city-to-city races of late last century. This car led the 1902 Paris-to-Vienna Race averaging over 70 MPH on dirt roads, eventually finishing 9th over the 615 mile course. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 8 Fine Early Motorcars – Pioneering Designs for a New Form of Transport 1924 MILLER 122 SUPERCHARGED This is the first supercharged Miller. In 1924 it won a 250-mile race at Culver City at a staggering 126.9 MPH. From the distinguished drawing board of Harry Miller, this is one car that goes as well as it looks. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1971 AMC JAVELIN TRANS-AM This is one of the two factory team cars built in 1970. The cars ran for three seasons driven by Donohue, Revson, Elford and Folmer. They won the Championship in 1971 and 1972. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1970 PLYMOUTH AAR CUDA RACE CAR In 1970, the Big Three all entered factory teams of improved production cars in the Trans-Am Series. Plymouth built three cars, of which two remain. This one was driven by Dan Gurney and Swede Savage and is still raced by its long-time owner. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1971 PLYMOUTH HEMI CUDA While enthusiasts are drawn to the racing muscle cars from the Trans-Am Series, many are also inspired by the Mopar cars powered by Chrysler’s mighty “Hemi” engines. This 426 c.u. is an extremely rare variation in tor-red, one of only 108 built. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1970 BUD MOORE FORD BOSS MUSTANG The Mustangs modified and entered by Bud Moore were Ford’s salvo in the Trans-Am war of 1970. They were very successful and the legendary Parnelli Jones won the Championship in this actual car. Fast, powerful and as you will hear … noisy! THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1968 CAMARO Z-28 TRANS-AM The first of the Penske team Camaros, this car finished third overall at the Sebring 12-Hours in 1968. Mark Donohue went on to win 10 of 13 Trans-Am races that year – 8 in a row in this car. THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC 2000 CLASS 9 Ultimate Muscle Cars – No Guts, No Glory 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL-1 Only two rally sport ZL-1s were built. The car cost $8,047, of which $4,160 was for the all aluminum 585 HP engine option. The car is still on its original MSO and has never been titled.
