Not all solutions need to be
complex, but they do need to
be effective, 100% effective;
they also need to be totally
suited to the application in
hand. Because Lloyds Somers
design engineers specifically
address every single issue they are. Their aim is to ensure
that our solutions not only
perform exactly as ordered but where possible, far,
far, better.

in every material handling procedure, it’s also one of the most
important reasons for choosing Lloyds Somers lifting systems.

handling solutions, every possible option you could need is available. From individually fabricated lifting beams and ‘C’ hooks, to fully automatic systems
for coated coils - Lloyds Somers offer you a total service in design, manufacture, installation and on-site maintenance.

SENSING
SYSTEMS
Lloyds Somers unique sensing
systems began with the needs
of the steel industry to eliminate
overclamping damage, and also
the requirement to detect coil
bores through a wide variety of
bore lining materials.
Remote mounted pressure
sensors in the lifting feet and
full length leg mounted sensor
plates detect the precise
moment of safe clamping
pressure - no more, and no less.
8
9
Bright LED status lights indicate
the status of each of the sensing
systems. Green shows leg drive
motors stopped by leg plates
contacting coil walls. Amber
indicates both lifting feet are in
contact with the coil. Red shows
lifting feet are aligned with the
coil bore.
One Complete System.
S3 systems can also offer a coil
proximity sensing option and fully
automated data-logging.
The advent of pre-coating and finishing has seen the Lloyds Somers Sensing Systems make a major contribution in damage elimination. The S3 systems,
which can detect coil edges to prevent overclamping, coil proximities to eliminate collisions, and racking centres for safe storage, can also be equipped
with datalogging interface facilities for precise inventory control. The only impact Lloyds Somers Sensing systems make - is on the balance sheet.

industry experience is probably unique, and almost certainly it’s unequalled. But

SOMERS
Modification,
overhaul,
and rebuilding.
1
What’s the best thing to do when a slab tong or coil lifter
won’t work?
What’s the quickest and most cost-effective way to get a repair?
What about emergency damage?
And why does it take so long to get it done anyway?
Accidents happen, and every lifting system needs overhauling
sooner or later.
2
But Lloyds Somers recognised that far too many manufacturers were
less than co-operative when it came to dealing with customers’ repair
and maintenance problems. In many
ways it’s understandable - with
hard pressed production facilities
under pressure to get out new
orders, maintenance and repair
jobs are bound to get pushed
to the back. Right?
At some companies, maybe.
But not at Lloyds Somers.

SYSTEMS
Lloyds Somers created is a totally separate unit - in a totally
different location, staffed with maintenance, repair and modification
specialists - they all operate to exactly the same standards as
Lloyds Somers, but are dedicated and focused on delivering absolute
excellence in after sales.
Their primary consideration is safety - ensuring your lifting
systems are returned to 100% operational efficiency - and
as quickly as humanly possible.
1. A CORUS 113 tonne Duplex Dogging Tong ready for complete strip-down, inspection and report.
2. The dedicated Maintenance and Overhaul facilities can accommodate a large variety and size of lifters.
3. The finished Product, a fully overhauled Scrap Baler about to be returned to CORUS, Port Talbot.
In an emergency breakdown, the first priority is to accurately
4
assess the condition. Immediately upon receipt of instructions
a full strip and inspection is undertaken and a detailed report
prepared - together with a firm and fixed quotation. Once that
is approved, work can commence, and the lifter is returned safe,
sound, tested and certified - as good as the day it was made.
Exactly the same
applies to overhaul.
The first priority
is to strip, inspect
and report, then
5
everything is quoted
up front, so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying, and how long
your lifter will be out of commission.
With Lloyds Somers on-site servicing, as well as keeping your
systems in optimum condition, the service team closely monitors
component wear rates and can often predict potential failures and often prevent emergency breakdowns. That alone can more
than justify on site servicing.
But the world moves on, and industry doesn’t stand still. So what
6
happens when your business needs change? By refitting and
modifying your lifting systems, Lloyds Somers can ensure your
lifters stay cost-effective and efficient, bringing your systems right
up to date - and keeping your business ahead of
the competition.
