Park Cinema, an empty theatre on the corner of
Pontiac and Park Avenue in Cranston, will soon
reopen as an upscale dinner theatre and cyber coffee
shop. Owner Piyush Patel closed the cinema over
two years ago in hopes of refurbishing the city
landmark into a classier establishment.
The $1.3 million project will consolidate the three
individual theatres onto two-one smaller cinema for
an intimate dinner/theatre and a larger auditorium for
general movie viewing. Patel hopes to bring a
Mediterranean style menu to the dinner theatre. The
newly remodeled Park Cinema is scheduled to show
mostly foreign and independent films along with live
performances.
Construction is slated to begin this summer if the
owner can successfully win a bid for a liquor license.
