RHA as they make their presence on campus

Alicia is an accomplished woman that has so
much experience with student life. Almost
naturally, she improves the lives of those around
her with her wisdom and caring. However, when
she’s not hard at work, she loves to spend time
with her family and take cruises. She loves her
adorable dog, Daisy, and enjoys Star Wars with
her husband.

The Greatest Advisor Under the Sea!
Alicia’s Role as RHA Advisor at ETSU
What does it mean to be an advisor?

She motivates and encourages the RHA
executive board

Assists the RHA executive board in developing
long term plans for ETSU campus as well as
managing the budget and reconciling purchases

She is an excellent sounding board and helps
the RHA executive board cooperate in times
of conflict

Helps others develop so they can be the best
campus leaders they can be.
Alicia is currently doing many things such as using
Restorative Practices to make RHA more inclusive
as a community where everyone can feel included
and heard, researching the development of a
strategic plan, coaching each person’s individual
leadership style so that they may improve their
strengths and weaknesses and lead and work better
with others, overseeing contracts and purchases,
and she is serving as a liaison between the
Department of Housing and Residence Life office
and the organization.

at new student
orientation over
the summer.
Alicia’s role with the RHA executive board is
incredibly important and irreplaceable. Just this
year alone, she has helped the executive board
better understand the members of RHA and reach
out to them. Her role as advisor is to help the
board stay motivated even if the school semester is
a little rough on everyone. She helps find solutions
to any kind of problem whether it be a conflict
between members of the board or in which
residence hall the board would host the Haunted
House. She is determined to keep RHA amazing.
That is her role as ETSU RHA advisor.
Alicia always wants to see RHA soaring! Her goals
for RHA are as follows: she wants to assist the
board in developing a strong campus organization
that not only advocates for the needs and wants of
the residents, but is a solid presence on campus
that is well connected to the ETSU community,
and she strives to help the organization generate a
sense of pride and tradition within the ETSU
community, and to represent ETSU positively at
state, regional, and national levels. In other words,
she is turning halls into homes.

The Kindest Care-Taker
ALICIA’S ROLE AS AN AREA COORDINATOR
An area coordinator is responsible for overseeing
residence halls and ensuring that Resident Advisor
Staff and the Resident Directors adhere to the
policies and procedures established by ETSU to
create a safe living and learning environment. The
job can be 24/7 as an area coordinator is always
developing the RA staff and the RD staff as well as
being present for students in difficult situations and
even going with them to the hospital if need be. An
area coordinator is just as responsible for turning
halls into homes as RHA is.
Above is a picture of Alicia with her Cater, Stone,
Powell residence life staff.
Restorative Practices works to establish trust within
any community as well as ensuring that everyone
has a voice and a role in establishing a direction
for the community, whether it be on a floor or in
an organization. Restorative Practice makes a
community, well, a community! Alicia uses these
practices and works hard to develop relationships
with her students and seize growing opportunities
for them, even if it means a tough conversation.
She also authored and articulated learning
outcomes for students in the residence hall
through Residential Curriculum.
Alicia has penned sections of the Resident Advisor
handbook as well as curriculum for the Central
Area of ETSU campus so Resident Advisors can
provide a more structured and beneficial
environment for their residents. She is also the
creator of Behind Closed Doors, a training
program used for Resident Advisors to help them
practice some of the more difficult parts of the job
and have some hands-on experience before the
semester begins and training is over.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Alicia is Advisor Resource Training certified and
has been since October 2011. This means she has
completed a curriculum aimed at training advisors
and has completed additional “experiential”
credits. She is certified to present Level I and
Level II sessions of the ART curriculum to new
and incoming advisors.
Southeastern Association of Housing Officers is
the regional professional association. At the
moment, Alicia is a member and attending the
SEAHO 2016 conference.
Tennessee Association of College and University
Housing Officer is the state professional
association. At the moment, Alicia is a member.
Student Organization Resource Team is a very
large dual role for Alicia. Along with her normal
AC duties, she sits on the SORC team. She works
directly with Student Activities on ETSU campus,
helps plan leadership initiatives for campus, assists
in planning large scale campus events such as
Homecoming and Civility Week, and ensures
RHA has a place at the table when discussing large
scale initiatives as well as helping RHA collaborate
with others on campus. Because of this role, she
received the honor of serving as Family Cluster
Leader at Leadershape 2015.
As a member of the Student
Organization Resource team as well
as an influential faculty member of
ETSU, Alicia had the opportunity to
be a family cluster leader at
Leadershape, a week long student
leadership intensive.
