Finest Medieval Castles

Walled Gardens
Raby Castle
Uncover history in the halls and chambers
which house fabulous interiors, art
collections and dramatic architecture. The
Castle’s knowledgeable and friendly guides
help bring history to life with guided tours
on weekdays during May, June and
September. Have the freedom to explore
the castle at your own pace every Sunday,
during School holidays & from mid-July
until the end of August, when our guides
will be in every room to provide
information and answer questions.
The 18th Century Walled Gardens encompass five acres and
are still graced with many of the original design features,
including two magnificent yew hedges, an ornamental pond
in the Central Garden, large herbaceous borders and fruit
trees, including a fig tree in its own glass house, which was
brought to Raby in 1786!
Relax on one of the many benches and enjoy the peace and
serenity, or even pick raspberries in the early summer months.
Discover a castle of contrasts: a dramatic
medieval exterior hides the opulent family
home of Lord Barnard, who still makes
Raby his home today; and take a glimpse
into the kitchens and quarters of the
servants that once worked here.
A beautifully illustrated and comprehensive
guidebook is available to purchase at the
Castle entrance and gift shop. Children can
enjoy free activity sheets available from the
Castle entrance. There’s something for the
whole family on a visit to Raby Castle.
Coach Houses
You can see a fine collection of horse drawn carriages in the
18th Century Coach House & Tack Room as well as the
harnesses and trappings of the horses which once lived here.

Deer Park
200 acres of fine Parkland surround Raby Castle, providing
plenty of space for children to play or to get away from it all.
Watch the herds of Red and Fallow deer and their young
from afar, stroll around the two large ponds and spot other
wildlife. Our welcome leaflet highlights walks which take in
fabulous vistas of the Castle and surrounding countryside.

of the former horses have been converted into a unique and

also available.
The Woodland Adventure Play Area provides a safe and fun
environment for children aged 6 and above, featuring an
obstacle course that includes an army-style zip wire. Adults can
sit back and take in the beautiful surroundings of Raby Park.
Adjoining the
Tearooms is the Gift
