BISHOP ARTHUR N. TAFOYA
Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya was born in Alameda, New
Mexico March 2, 1933. Son of Nick and Rosita Armijo Tafoya. Brothers: Leonard Tafoya, Larry Tafoya,
Andy Tafoya, and the late Herman Tafoya. Sisters:
Rosalie Sandoval and Priscilla Howard. Bishop Tafoya received Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy
Communion here at Nativity Parish. He was an Altar
Server and attended Mass with his parents at Nativity.
His early education was at Alameda and St Mary’s
schools in Albuquerque. In 1950 he entered Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe, NM. From
1956 to 1958 he attended St Thomas Seminary in Denver, and from 1958 to 1962 he attended Immaculate
Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri. He
was ordained for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe on May
12, 1962, at St Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM by
Archbishop Edwin Vincent Byrne. He celebrated his
first Mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary the
next day. His early priestly assignments included: Assistant Pastor at Holy Rosary Parish in Albuquerque,
NM; Pastor of St Anthony Parish in Dixon, NM and
Pastor of San Jose Parish in Albuquerque, NM. In
1978 he became Rector of Immaculate Heart of Mary
Seminary in Santa Fe. In 1980 he was appointed
Bishop of Pueblo Colorado. He was the second United
States Bishop born and raised in New Mexico. Retired
December 10, 2009 from the Diocese of Pueblo and
now presides in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. He continues to be retired Bishop of Pueblo, Colorado.

On Friday, May 11, 2012, Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya
will be celebrating his 50th anniversary of ordination
to the priesthood with a Mass at 5:30 p.m. at Nativity
of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. A dinner reception
will follow in the parish hall. Please help us determine
how many will be attending the reception by filling out
the following information and placing it in the collection basket today or call the office on Monday. Those
who wish may bring a dessert.

50TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION
Through Catholic Charities, many Cuban children not
accompanied by their parents came to New Mexico in
1962. They were placed in foster homes or a special
home in Albuquerque called “VILLA VIRGEN DEL
COBRE.” Fifty years later many of them will be gathering for a reunion on the weekend of May 18-20th.
Friends, former classmates and foster families are invited to attend an Anniversary Mass of Thanksgiving
on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
FIRST COMMUNION
We have practice on Thursday 10 May for Miss Inez’,
Miss Erica’s and Miss Melissa’s classes. We ask Miss
Inez’ and Miss Erica’s classes to show up at the church at 7
pm and Miss Melissa’s to show up at 7:30 pm. First Communion ceremonies will be as follows on Saturday, May
12: Miss Inez’ and Miss Erica’s classes at 9:00 a.m. and
Miss Melissa’s class at 5:30 p.m. Mass. Remember to dress
for the occasion. no gloves and no full length dresses.
CONFIRMATION PRACTICE
We will have practice on May 9 at 7:00 p.m. at ST JOSEPH’S ON THE RIO GRANDE (across from St Pius X
High School). Please be there no later than 6:45 p.m..
Candidates and Sponsors are expected to be there. Parents
may stand in for sponsors if sponsors are from out of town.
LAST DAY OF CLASS
We will have a party May 13 and 16. The Church will provide cake and we will show a movie in the center room.
We ask parents to bring drinks, fruits/vegetables, cookies
and chips according to the following schedule. A-I:
Drinks, J-Q: cookies/chips, R-Z: Fruits/vegetables. Parents are invited to help distribute the goodies to the kids.
FALL REGISTRATION
Nativity Catechism Program will continue to accept registrations for the fall 2012 session throughout the summer.
We , but we strongly encourage you to register now to help
us with planning and to avoid late registration penalties in
the fall. Children from 4-18 years old are welcome to register for our programs. If you have children or grandchildren
and would like them in our program, pick up registrations
fat our religious education office or at www.n-bvm.org
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
We have begun to plan for our session on June 4-8! We
need an adult to volunteer to run one Vacation Bible Stations as well as several adults to help the station leaders for
all 5 stations. We need about 12-16 high school kids to
help us lead the young people throughout the morning. If
you wish to help call Deacon Michael at 898-5253 x 2.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GROUP
We want to start a middle school group in the Fall for the
“tweens”. If interested in helping develop this concept and
lead the class, call Deacon Michael at 898-5253 x 2.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MEETING
We will have another meeting in Deacon Michael office on
May 7th at 6:00 p.m. to determine the jobs and supplies

2012 NATIVITY PARISH FIESTA MEETING
FIESTAS WILL BE SEPTEMBER 9th
CHAIRPERSON FOR FIESTA IS NANCY MCRAE
We are starting to plan for our September Fiesta. We
invite you to a meeting on Tuesday May 8th at 6:30
p.m. in the Pastoral Center. We invite those who are
interested in bringing ideas or wishing to assist in any
way to please attend this meeting. We are starting to
collect items for the Silent Auction valued at $50.00 or
more. Also we are collecting items for the flea market.
WALK FOR VOCATIONS: On Monday, May 28th
(Memorial Day) a group of women will be walking for vocations. They will stop at Nativity to rest and have water,
refreshments etc., at About 8:30 a.m. If you wish to donate
drinks and help us serve them, please call 898-5253 X 0.
VISIT OUR BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL
Holy Ghost Catholic School offers a complete curriculum
for Pre-K thru 8th grade. We have an atmosphere based on

INCARNATION CHURCH GOLF TOURNAMENT
We will be hosting our 8th Annual Golf Tournament for

GOLF TOURNAMENT
St Therese School is asking for help to make the
16th Annual Golf Tournament a success! It will be held on
May 18 at Desert Greens Golf Course. We are looking for
sponsors at the $1500, $1000, or $500 level. You can also
sponsor a player ($100) or a team ($400). This fundraiser
goes directly toward the scholarship fund. This year St
Therese School gave out over $33,000 in scholarships!
Golfers will have a chance to win many prizes throughout

If you have not brought your card with the name
of your mother (living or deceased), please do so
as soon as possible. Those cards will be placed on
the altar and these ladies will be prayed for at the
daily Masses .
