for all students within the framework of Catholic Christian
values by maintaining accreditation through the Texas Conference Education Department. The students, PreK 3 through 8th
grade, are challenged to grow in a manner consistent with their

Students Travel to D.C.
Over the summer, a group of St.
Mary students and parents
went to Washington D.C. The
particpants were Logan Russell,
Bryce McAllister, Brycen Van
Tassel, Munawar Rahman and
Mrs. Smith. On June 2, these
students took a plane to Washington D.C. and then they took a
tour bus to the sites. They went
inside the Capitol, the WWI,
WWII, Korean War exhibits, and
visited the corresponding memorials. They were also able to
see the White House, Mount
Vermont, and in Fort Kendrick
they watched a show called the
Twilight Zone. They stayed in a

what to teach. Ms. Washington
has only taught math. Ms.
Washington discovered her love
for math when she was in the
fifth grade. She is not married
and has no children, but considers each and every child she is
teaching and has ever taught to
be her “children”. She has
taught at several schools as a
teacher, and in some schools,

More Than Just a Math Teacher
Ms. Washington is our brand
new math teacher, She says
that she enjoys the faculty and
her students here at St. Mary.
Ms. Washington decided to
teach because her third grade
teacher taught her to excel in
math. Ever since her third
grade year, Ms. Washington
knew that she wanted to be a
teacher, but she didn’t know

she was the assistant principal.
Ms. Washington grew up in Port
Arthur. As she grew up, Ms.
Washington wanted to be a
flight attendant. There was one
drawback though…she is afraid
of heights! Ms. Washington
plans to continue teaching here
at St. Mary. This is the first
catholic school that she has
taught at. Welcome to St. Mary!

lege in Sherman, TX for a leadership workshop. They stayed
there for a week, and attended
many group and breakout sessions. Each group had to create
a school and mascot and present it to the whole group. More
activities included group elec-
tions, a fancy dinner, and a
dance. Each of our students
shared a dorm room with students from other schools. St.
Mary Catholic School was only
one of the few schools at the
convention representing District
17.

order to prepare to perform
these experiments around the
Golden Triangle Area. Each
year, Dr. Michael Hoke selects
students from the applications
of students entering the eighth
grade. Students are required to
have great grades and out-
standing behavior to apply.
They must fill out an application, submit grades and teacher
recommendations. They also
must agree to maintain their
grades and positive behavior. It
is a great honor to be picked for
the Science Superstars.
