Recognition Awards
L
ong Point Waterfowl staff and students would not be able to deliver
all of our research, education and conservation programs if not for the
considerable assistance, support and guidance that we receive from countless
professional partners volunteers and corporate sponsors. Based on this
substantial support, we decided to present recognition awards to individuals
and organizations each year at our fundraising dinner. A full description of
the award recipients contributions are provided in our annual newsletter.
The Long Point Waterfowl Professional Partnership Award, created in
2010, is presented annually to the person who, in a professional capacity,
made the most significant contributions to Long Point Waterfowl programs
during the previous year. Past recipients of this award were Richard (Rick)
Thompson in 2010 and Richard (Rick) Davis in 2011.
The Long Point Waterfowl Volunteer Commitment Award was created in
2010. This award is presented annually to the person who, as a volunteer,
made the most significant contributions to Long Point Waterfowl programs
during the previous year. Past recipients of this award were Vic Gibbons in
2010 and Rob Smith in 2011.
Long Point Waterfowl receives substantial contributions and merchandise
from several North American corporations. The Long Point Waterfowl
Corporate Commitment Award will be presented annually to a
corporation that has made significant contributions to Long Point
Waterfowl programs during the previous year. This is the first year that the
Corporate Commitment award will be presented.
We are extremely pleased to recognize our 2012 award recipients this

Message from the Dinner Chairman
David Kennedy
W
elcome to our Second Annual LPW Fundraising Dinner. I had the good fortune (and
misfortune!) of meeting Scott during the early LPW days when he was conducting
research on diving ducks. I had the opportunity to help collect samples of scaup, which were
implanted with transmitters before they were released into the Long Point marshes, so their
travels across North America could be followed on the computer screen.
I’ve gone on a number of flights with LPW staff when they were conducting aerial
surveys of waterfowl over various regions of the lower Great Lakes…and I learned not to
eat breakfast beforehand! For a number of years I’ve been able to assist Scott and Ted during
their young biologists and young hunters summer workshops. Two years ago we introduced
“Duck Day”, a family event held on the fourth Sunday in September at the LPW Research
and Education Center, to help celebrate our waterfowl heritage.
Through these interactions, I have become a firm believer in, and supporter of, LPW and
their mission. Please visit their website www.longpointwaterfowl.org to see the outstanding
contributions they make to research, education, conservation and our hunting heritage.
Our goal tonight is to raise funds, but most importantly, to provide our guests with a high
quality, fun-filled evening. We feel we have an outstanding array of gifts, artwork, trips, and
prizes with something for everyone. Please have a wonderful evening and bid generously!
Thank you to all my committee members, to our fantastic sponsors and donors, and to
you, our guests, for making this event a success.
