Na Mic Léinn
Fellowship Hall
Na Mic Léinn (Gaelic for “the students”) is
a traditional Irish music group led by Killian
Robinson, originally from Dublin. The band
performs lively instrumentals (jigs, hornpipes,
reels, polkas, mazurkas, airs) as well as poignant
ballads sung in Gaelic or English.
The band’s members are: Killian Robinson
(Uilleann pipes [Irish bagpipes], tin whistle),
Beth Hyland (fiddle, bodhrán [Irish drum]), Bill
McIlwain, III (guitar, vocals, fiddle), John “Zack”
Saffa (whistle), Emi Sharpe (fiddle, mandolin) and
Sharon Fogarty (Irish flute, whistle). The ballads,
sung by Bill, include ‘S Umbó Aerá a love song
sung in Gaelic, She Moved Through The Fair,
a haunting story of lost love, and—for a bit of
fun—The Old Woman From Wexford, a humorous
song about a crafty old woman and her clever
husband. We will play again September 2 and
will try a sing-along called Molly Malone, a
well-known street ballad from Dublin. The band
comprises players affiliated in some way with
Wake Forest University, Salem College or The
University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

by Beethoven, one from very early in his
compositional career, and the other one of
the last pieces he wrote for the piano. In the
“Piasiello Variations” Beethoven composed a
charming piece that follows the conventions of
variation form of the 1790’s, while in the second
and final movement of his last Piano Sonata he
transforms these conventions into a monumental
and profound meditation on life. Come hear
these two pieces in performance, side by side.

Wine Social and Tasting with Adagio Vineyards
Bay Window
Wine social hosted by and featuring Adagio
Vineyards. Having just opened in May, the
concept for Adagio Vineyards began in 2005,
and the first grapes were planted in 2009. Both
practicing dentists, Dr. Tim and Dr. Jan Wahl,
envisioned and developed Adagio Vineyards from
the ground up. Tim has a winemaking certification
from the University of California at Davis and
is a member of the Guild of Sommeliers. Jan
is a classical violinist and violinmaker, having
played for the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and
having studied violin building under the late
German master Karl Roy at the University of New
Hampshire. Adagio Vineyards is named for the
musical term indicating “slowly with passion”
which reflects a shared love and passion for both
wine and classical music. The first production has
birthed four wines, Vivace, Coda, Chardonnay
and Chaconne. Vivace is a white wine blend
predominantly Traminette, while Coda is a
dessert-style Traminette. The Chaconne is a red
wine blend of Merlot, Tannat and Petite Verdot.

A Presentation on Scriptural Authority
Annie’s Kitchen, Asbury Place, 2nd Floor
How authoritative is Biblical scripture? Is
the Bible (or any religious scripture) to be
read literally, only as metaphor, somewhere
in-between? What is the guide to our
interpretation? Culture? Context? People of faith
have struggled for ages with these questions.
They continue as a source of heated debate to
this day. Chaplain Bert Sanders invites you to
dip your toe into these stormy waters. Bert will
present different approaches to the question
of scriptural authority through the eyes of four
respected theologians/writers. This will be a
single-session presentation and discussion.
Please join us.
