~ POWER & MOTORYACHT ~
A MESSAGE FROM
Dennis Matthews
Welcome to Longboat Key Club Moorings!
We are entering the Spring season at the Marina and Resort with
numerous awards including our being named one of the Top 25
Marinas in North America, by Power & Motoryacht Magazine as well
as achieving our “Florida Clean Marina” designation for the 12th
consecutive year. These accolades hold us to the highest protocols
of service and hospitality and sound stewardship of the waters
that make our area the special destination that it is. We have had
a wonderful season so far with many overnight and seasonal boats
visiting the marina for the first time. The comments have been
fantastic and many of our guests have already booked for next year or
decided to stay forever!
The Resort has also earned top spots in Condé Nast’s “Top 30 Florida
Hotels, Gulf Coast” list and Tennis Resorts Online #8 spot out of only 100
tennis resorts and camps, worldwide. Our resort has maintained its AAA
Four-Diamond award for 32nd consecutive years, one of only six in the
State of Florida to achieve this. We are very proud of the honors we
have earned and are excited that you have chosen to stay with us to
experience the wonders of the Marina and Resort for yourself!
We extend a warm welcome to you if you are a new visitor to our
marina or one of our returning boaters. We hope you have the chance
to explore everything the Gulf coast of Florida has to offer –clear aqua
waters, great fishing, small towns and points of interest that dot the
coastline.
We are the largest Marina Resort on the West Coast of Florida and
offer more on-site amenities and services than any other marina in
the area. These include on-site laundry facilities, dockside dining at
Portofino, a fully stocked Ship’s Store, swimming pool and tennis
courts and access to resort amenities such as The Spa, the Fitness
Center and our pristine white-sand beach. Our service department is
available seven days a week to keep your vessel in top condition.
For those boaters who have young ones onboard, our Camp
Loggerhead day-camp will provide quality care, entertainment, arts &
crafts and outdoor activities for children ages 5 through 12. Your little
ones will enjoy their time and make new friends while you relax and
enjoy a day on the boat or at the beach.
We want to be your home away from home and offer ownership,
annual, seasonal, monthly and daily lease programs on a space
available basis. Our goal is to enhance your boating lifestyle by
providing you with superlative services and amenities that can be
found nowhere else.
Please contact me at 941-383-8383 to discuss your mooring needs or
to arrange a tour of our Resort. On behalf of the Longboat Key Club
Moorings staff and the entire team at The Resort at Longboat Key
Club, we thank you for choosing to be our guest

Launches Innovative
Slip Reservations Platform
Every industry is finding new ways to use
technology to their advantage, and our
marina has done just that with the launch
of its new slip reservations platform. Being
one of the first in the marine industry to
introduce this option has created a lot of
excitement and positive feedback from
the staff as well as the boaters who can
now book a slip as easily as reserving a
hotel room.
The traditional system of yield
management that the hotel industry
has perfected keeps occupancy high
and demand in line with consumer
trends. Marina professionals can
now use the same strategies to keep
slips full and boating customers
happy with the ability to make
reservations quickly and easily.
Access the Marina’s website from
a mobile device, tablet, laptop or
desktop, www.LongboatKeyMarina.com, select
arrival and departure dates and choose the slip of
your choice. An email confirmation is then sent
in minutes.
“Longboat Key Club Moorings has always been
known as an exclusive and beautiful destination
for the boating public,” said Dennis Matthews,
Director of Marina Operations. “With 291 slips
and a full array of amenities, we are in the top
echelon of marinas in North America. With
such a sophisticated and technologically astute
customer, it is imperative that we keep pace with
options that make travel decisions easier and
available to our guests via their preferred method
of communication. We live in an era of fast-paced
communications and instant information. I am
thrilled that our Florida marina is one of the first
to roll out such a program for our customers.”
Jeff Mayers, General Manager of The Resort at
Longboat Key Club, is proud to have Longboat Key
Club Moorings as part of his resort’s amenities.
“Longboat Key Club Moorings stands out in
the boating industry for its outstanding and

One Year in Space
A New Mission
For those of you that do not already know, March 27th, 2015
marked the successful launch of one of the most important space
missions in recent history. American Astronaut, Scott Kelly and
Cosmonauts, Mikhail Kornienko and Gennady Padalka set on a
course to meet up with the crew onboard the International Space Station. Kelly and Kornienko will spend
the next 12 months orbiting planet earth as they record data and research a number of key initiatives. Among
them studying the long-term effects of space flight on the human body and mind, changes to brain structure
and sensory/motor abilities, shifts in bodily fluids, eye health, vascular changes, potential for osteoporosis and
effects on inner-body micro-organisms. With a planned mission to Mars in the not too distant future, all this
data is critical to the safety and health of the crew members on upcoming flights.
Kelly, who is the identical twin brother of former NASA Astronaut, Captain Mark Kelly, will have added levels
of research devoted to changes in DNA, RNA genes, chromosomes and the effects on immune systems.
You can be part of all the excitement by tracking the travels of the International Space Station online. Sign up
to receive notifications of when it will be visible in your location by using this link, http://spotthestation.nasa.
gov. This will take you to NASA’s Spot The Station service that lists daily updates, photo of the day, blogs and
other interesting and informative content from the residents of the space station themselves. Happy tracking!
beautiful location and quality of service
that guests experience once they arrive,” he
said. “Given my extensive background as
a hotelier, it is thrilling to see technology
and business applications utilized in nontraditional ways. We take great pride in
our outstanding track record in the areas of
guest service, and that includes the very first
interaction our guest has with our brand.”
Longboat Key Club Moorings recently was
honored by Power & Motoryacht Magazine
as one of the Top 25 Marinas in North
America. Long known for its sustainable
and environmentally-friendly programs,
Longboat Key Club Moorings is enjoying
its 12th consecutive year as a designated
Florida Clean Marina.

MARINA EXPERIENCE

Just south of Sarasota, towards Fort Myers, Redfish
and Spotted Sea Trout can readily be caught yearround on light tackle. With spring just around the
corner, here are a few of the fish that will be in your
sights as you leave Longboat Key Club Moorings and
enter Sarasota Bay or the Gulf of Mexico.
14
MARINA EXPERIENCE
May sees spring turning into summer and the warmer
water conditions increase the activity of the bottom
fish and new schools of baitfish run strong, attracting
the bigger trolling fish such as Wahoo and Dolphin.
Make note of the Triggerfish during this season as
their hearty winter appetites have given them some
impressive girth. Whether a short couple hours or a
full day spent trolling for the “big boys” there will be
plenty of action out on the water for you this month.
Summer is in full swing as we head into June, which
brings open season for Red Snapper, which generally
lasts about 45 days. The actual length of the season
is determined by The National Marine Fisheries
Service. This is also a great time of year to enjoy
some surf casting as the fish are happily following the
smaller bait fish hugging the shoreline.
So gather your tackle, pack a cooler and
meet up with your buddies for a great fishing
expedition
this
Spring!
Happy
fishing!
- Sandra Rios, Director of Marketing and Communications
Spring Fishing
The Gulf Coast in particular offers the perfect location
for an “easy breezy” day out on the boat or surf casting
along the beautiful beaches. The waters south of
Tampa, and just off the coast of Sarasota offer some
of the best fishing in the world. Redfish, Snook, Sea
Trout, Tarpon, Grouper, Dolphin and Snapper of every
variety offer challenging workouts and trophy-worthy
rewards. Springtime brings the annual migration of
Tarpon, which can get up to, and even exceed, 100
pounds as they journey north for the cooler waters.
With their silvery skin and their noteworthy water
acrobatics, catching a Silver King can be thrilling.
Getting them in the boat adds an additional element
of excitement!
April fishing brings Cobia up on your lines with a
tempting treat of eel or the use of a jig. Using live
bait such as herring and minnows will attract King
Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Sheepshead, Flounder
and Speckled Trout. Keep motoring offshore a bit
and Amberjack, Tuna, Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo will
be waiting!
An Angler’s Paradise!
We all know that fishing is one of the top recreational
sports in Florida and for good reason! The beautiful
water, the balmy weather, the “fun in the sun” mindset,
the camaraderie of fishing enthusiasts and the “fish
stories” that get exchanged under tiki huts or in beachside bars only add to the allure of the sport.

bicycle options to choose from and each has unique
qualities and capabilities for any level of cyclist.
Choosing the right bike requires some thought.
Ask yourself if it is speed, comfort, style,
storage or versatility that you are looking for.
Will you primarily ride on terrain or paved
roads? Will you have to transport your
bike or just walk into the garage and hop
on? Do you have physical limitations that
need to be addressed in the style of bike
you choose or are three wheels an option
to offer more stability and balance? Give
these questions some serious consideration
and then find the bike that is the best fit for
you.
There
is no
better place
to own a bicycle
than Longboat Key!
You can bike along the scenic, long
and lanky Gulf of Mexico Drive
or meander through the Joan M.
Durante Park or Quick Point Nature
Preserve and stop to enjoy a picnic.
Perhaps you enjoy riding with a bike
club from St. Armands Circle to Anna
Maria Island or just hopping on your
beach bike to take a quick jaunt over
the bridge into town. If you do not
own a bike while living on Longboat
Key or the surrounding area, you are
truly missing out on an opportunity
for recreation that is the envy of any
outdoor enthusiast.
Many benefits are obvious – exploring
the great outdoors, participating in a
hobby that can be shared with friends
and family of any age and spending
quality time with yourself. And then
there are the not so obvious benefits
- burning calories, an all-over toning
workout and heart healthy exercise.
Cycling triggers dopamine in the
brain giving you a proven edge over
depression and fatigue. Your joints
will thank you for the low-stress
workout and biking is better for the
spine than walking or running.
Without a doubt there is a plethora of

Road Bikes are designed primarily for speed
and distance but are not well suited for rough
terrains. The aero dynamic riding position and
skinny tires make pedaling easy but the skinny seat
can sometimes prove to be uncomfortable.
Mountain bikes are rugged and made to conquer
mountains, literally. Wide tires and high gear ratios make it a
nice fit for those that are fitness fanatics.
Hybrid bicycles are sometimes called cross-overs, combining the
most popular features of a mountain bike and a road bike. It is very
versatile and offers the rider a more upright sitting position than a
road bike.
Cruiser bikes are very popular in beach communities and are the
bike of choice for those that just take an occasional, leisurely ride
around the neighborhood.
Step-through bikes are great for boomers for the ease of mounting
and dismounting, if you are not as “flexible” as you once were.
A chainless bike is a dream come true, and the wave of the future.
A drive shaft connects to a set of gears on the rear hub, replacing the
chain that is found on conventional bikes.
Recumbent bikes are fast, comfortable and come in a wide range
of configurations. Very popular with boomers, most come in three
wheeled variations for better balance.
Tandem bikes are still a popular option for those that want the
“bicycle built for two” experience.
Folding bikes are great for ease of storage, commuters and apartment
dwellers. They are also easy to transport in your car if you want to take
off for a sunny Sunday picnic to a local park for the day.
Adult tricycles are the best option for those with balance issues or for
individuals with disabilities. They offer a very stable and comfortable
ride and are a great option to get up and out into the great outdoors
for some exercise.
So, get out into the great outdoors with a great set of wheels and
enjoy our beautiful islands from a new perspective. Happy cycling!

The Resort at Longboat Key Club is proud to announce it has been named one of the top
ten tennis resorts in the world by Tennis Resorts Online in its highly competitive annual
listing released this May. With only 75 tennis resorts and 25 tennis camps included in
this exclusive roster, the resort is very pleased to have attained the #8 spot. Our award
winning Tennis Gardens offer a unique tennis experience, with 20 Har-Tru courts set
amidst beautifully landscaped acreage along Sarasota Bay.
The listing is compiled from surveys that are submitted by tennis players and enthusiasts
and reflects the quality of lodging, services, amenities, dining options and programs
that are available at the resorts. The tennis camps category also includes ratings for
