-In 1850, while singer was working as a sewing
machine repairman, his boss asked him to fix a
Lerow & Blodgett sewing machine. When Singer
was presented with this task, he took matters into
his own hands, and designed and built a far more
superior model. Since his sewing machine used
some of the basic principles of Elias howe’s sewing
machine, when Singer went to patent it, Howe
sued him and won. This didn’t stop Singer from
producing his machine, and partnered with
Edward Clark to create I.M. Singer & Company.
