They arrive when we ask them and stay as long as needed. They are outstanding. We appreciate them very much! Message from the Executive Director Dear Friends: I am happy to report that Hospice of Garrett County is assisting more and more families each year. We continue to reach out in the community and educate residents on just how we fill a huge void for families who find themselves as caregivers for terminally ill loved ones. The sentiment our staff hears on a routine basis is “I wish I had been referred to Hospice sooner”. One misconception is that hospice care is only available to support those who have a few days or hours of life remaining. Hospice is a positive option, one that aggressively seeks to provide comfort and freedom from pain and other symptoms. By understanding and accepting that death is a part of the cycle of life, Hospice can assist patients and their families make life the most meaningful until the end. Please remember that we provide support for patients and families with diagnoses such as Stroke, ALS, COPD, Parkinson’s, Respiratory Failure, Liver Cirrhosis, Pulmo- nary Fibrosis, End Stage Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Congestive Heart Failure, Kidney Failure and of course numerous Cancers. If you know of a patient and family in need of our services, please contact the office and we will pursue what we can do to assist. Remember that patients and their families never receive a bill from Hospice. We can provide equipment and supplies to those in need, at no charge simply by calling the office @301.334.5151 or by email at [email protected]. We hope to see you at the 2016 Walk for Hospice, June 19th, with registration beginning at 3:00 pm. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and always a memorable day. We are planning to make this an extra special event, celebrating the lives of those who we dearly miss on Father’s Day. Thank you again for all that you do for the Hospice mission. You make it all possible. Donna Brenneman John Skipper Retires John Skipper, Hospice Chaplain, announced his retirement effective April 1, 2016. Although so sorry to see John retire from the Hospice support team, we wish only the very best for him and all the Skipper family. You will be dearly missed!
