The Sunshine Foundation,
the world’s first wishgranting organization,
celebrated 30 years of
fulfilling dreams for
seriously ill, physically
challenged and abused
children at a special Gala on
Saturday, November 18,
2006. Almost 200 guests
were on hand to recognize
this special milestone.
Since its inception on
November 18, 1976, over
31,000 children have been
touched by the
Sunshine Foundation
which has served as the
model for similar
organizations.
Sunshine’s founder, Bill
Sample, was presented
with a scroll listing the
names of the next 30
children on the current
waiting list. The scroll
was unrolled by Brett,
Briana and Courtney,
three Sunshine
children whose dreams
have been fulfilled.
Louis W. Fryman, an
attorney with Fox
Rothschild and
long-time supporter of
the Sunshine
Foundation was awarded
the Humanitarian of the
Year award. The first
annual Impossible
Dream Founder’s Award
was presented to
Alexandra (Alex) Scott
who founded Alex’s
Lemonade Stand. Alex’s
parents, Liz and Jay
Scott, accepted the
award on Alex’s behalf.
Master of Ceremonies
for the evening was Irv
Homer, popular radio
talk show host, who was
accompanied by
Courtney Arciaga, one
of Sunshine’s progeria
children, as Mistress of
Ceremonies. Timmy
Kelly, a blind child with
Cerebral Palsy, who
received a dream to
visit Disney World,
performed the Star
Spangled Banner and a
special rendition of
“The Impossible Dream”
dedicated to Bill
Sample.
Thanks to the
generosity of attendees
and those who made
contributions, the
Sunshine Foundation will
continue to answer the
dreams of seriously ill,
physically challenged
and abused children for
Timmy’s amazing
rendition of
"The Impossible Dream”
brought many people to tears.

14 year old Tyra of Salisbury, MD had her dream come true last month
when she visited Sunshine’s Dream Village and the Florida
attractions. They all had an incredible time. “Everything was
wonderful from the moment we lifted off in the air, until the time we
arrived home from our journey.” Tyra’s family says, “it’s hard to pick
one best part of the trip. The entire experience was
amazing. Our family will remember this trip forever.
Having the opportunity for Tyra to be pampered and
participate in adventures just like other kids really
lifted her spirits.” This was truly an unforgettable
experience for everyone. “We are all on such a high
from this experience that we could probably fly home
without the plane! Thank you Sunshine Foundation!”
