TPAO: Board of Directors
Recently, our Board of Directors met to develop a
transition strategy for officers and directors for
the future. After more than 10 years of service I
feel it is time for change and to bring on new
leadership for our organization. Our
accomplishments have been many over the past
ten years including over $100,000 in donations
from our membership, the organization of two
successful international alumni meetings and the
formation of eight international alumni chapters.
Most importantly we stepped up to help support
numerous young Tufts Prosthodontic students
with educational financial support as well as by
mentoring them on their journey through the
program and their careers. The relationships
formed between alumni and our many young Tufts Prosthodontists
trained over the past ten years are of utmost importance as they will be
the future of our organization as we grow!
This coming October I will be stepping down as president and will be
passing the reigns to Dr. Alex Grous, my colleague, my mentor and a
Director Emeritus Dr. Maurice Martel Dr. Donna Finocchiaro Dr. Barry Bessler Dr. Robert Chapman Dr. William Heggerick Dr. Luis Del Castillo Dr. Paul Cammarata Dr. Bill Papadopolous Dr. Moftah ElGhadi Dr. Kiho Kang In memoriam: Dr. Lloyd Miller Dr. Frank Ursoleo

Meeting in June 2010
2nd International Tufts Prosthodontic Alumni Meeting a Success
As president and fellow alumni I want to again thank all of our alumni
and friends of Tufts Prosthodontics from around the world for attending
our homecoming event in Boston this past June. Over 100 of us enjoyed
our full day of lectures presented by our own alumni. They updated us
and shared their beautiful work with us during their thoughprovoking
presentations. After hearing their presentations there was no doubt in my
mind that the legacy of Tufts Prosthodontics continues! Beyond the
education, I hope that everyone who attended enjoyed seeing the
beautiful new Prosthodontic Clinic within the new Tufts vertical
expansion. It was certainly a special moment for all of us to get together,
refresh our friendships and have the opportunity to see our new home
where future Tufts Prosthodontists will grow. Our 2nd International
Meeting was a fitting showcase of how our prosthodontics alumni has
grown over the past 10 years! I want to thank all of our speakers for a
job well done! Speakers included Dr. HansPeter Weber, Dr. Gianluca
Paniz, Dr. Myongho Maeng, Dr. Jose Ferrandiz, Dr. Argiris Pissiotis,
Dr. Roberto Pellecchia, Dr. Wichai Thanathammasophon, Dr. Alex Grous,
Dr. Konstantinos Michalakis, Dr. Begona Ormaechea, Dr. Joseph Guarino,
Dr. Luis Sarmiento, Dr. Kenneth Malament and Dr. George Colt. I will
continue my efforts to promote Tufts Prosthodontics in whatever ways I
can. We should all be proud of our training and our dedication to
excellence.; it is what Tufts Prosthodontics is all about. I look forward to a
future 3rd International meeting in the years ahead! Until then, enjoy
some more photos of our most recent event on the following page.

Visit to PG Prosthodontics
Reflections on my Visit to PG Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine
At the recent gathering of Tufts PG Prosthodontic Alumni, I couldn’t help
marveling at the transformation and position that the PG Prosthodontic
program has achieved atop the Tufts Dental School with spectacular
views over the Boston skyline. What really got my attention is the
continuity that has been achieved during the thirtyeight years that have
passed since I completed our program. As I listened to each presenter
that spoke at the reunion there is no doubt in my mind that Tufts has
successfully invested in the ideas, dedication and passion of Bob Stein,
Gino Passamonte and Lloyd Miller, a presence that could not be
misinterpreted in the voices of the speakers. The key elements that have
been achieved begin with a dedication to the basic principles of
Prosthodontics and continue with application through an understanding of
the dental technology that is required to produce excellent thoughtful
dentistry. Guided by Mr. Kudara, I looked through the case pans in the
new spotless dental technology lab and saw the evidence myself. The
Advanced Dental Technology program is an indispensible part of the
educational legacy. I have often been asked what distinguishes Tufts from
other PG programs and I have answered that there is a complete
integration of fixed and removable Prosthodontics as well as an
interdisciplinary approach. Congratulations to Drs. Hiroshi Hirayama and
Vincent Mariano, PG faculty, and Alumni for continuing a truly
international presence provided by Tufts Prosthodontics education.

Meeting in Thessaloniki
2nd Greek Tufts Prosthodontic Meeting
On January 29th, 2011 the 2nd Greek Prosthodontic meeting was held in
Thessaloniki (northern Greece). The theme for the meeting was "The
Prognosis & the Longevity of Prosthodontic Restorations". A wonderful
group of speakers, all members of the Greater Greek Tufts University
Dental Alumni Association, presented exceptional lectures. The meeting
was a total success with 180 colleagues attending and sixteen sponsors
supporting the event. Special thanks go to the members of the organizing
committee: Argiris Pissiotis K82, Kostas Michalakis K94, Dimitris Garefis
K01 and Athanasios Stratos K08, who with great enthusiasm organized
this successful event in their hometown, Thessaloniki. The meeting was
followed by an enjoyable and warm dinner attended by many of the Tufts
Prosthodontic Alumni Greek Chapter members and spouses.
Mentoring Program
Mentoring Program for Tufts Prosthodontics Residents
Any Alumni from anywhere in the world can help mentor our residents.
Residents, upon returning to their countries for breaks or upon
completion of their program, are interested in meeting our Alumni. Any
Alumni interested in opening their offices for our Residents please email
me your name and office address to . I will
personally inform our Residents of this program, post and generate
interest amongst our Residents. Both myself and Dr. William Heggerick
have already agreed to open our offices to any Resident interested in
visiting. I look forward to hear from as many Alumni as possible.

Annual TPACO Board Meeting Report
In February our Annual Board Meeting was held in Boston in the new
prosthodontic library at Tufts. Current and past board members were in
attendance. Dr. Hirayama, Director of the Post Graduate Prosthodontic
Program, and Elizabeth Reinhart, our new attorney who specializes in
nonprofit organizations, were also present. We welcome Attorney
Reinhart and thank our past legal counsel, Attorney Karen Johnson, for
her ten years of service to our organization.
Following welcoming remarks was a review of proposed bylaw changes
creating both a PresidentElect board position as well as a new category of
Board Membership, "Director Emeritus", to recognize the contributions of
past board members who have helped create our organization as we
know it today. All Directors Emeritus are invited to all future board
meetings for their input and advice as our organization moves forward.
Also voted on was the creation of three new board committees:
Nomination Committee, Finance Committee and 2013 3rd International
Conference Committee. The International Conference Committee will plan
our next International Alumni Meeting proposed for the fall of 2013. Dr.
Heggerick gave us a Treasurer’s Report noting our current Alumni
Organization’s account balance of just over $40,000. This balance was
helped by proceeds from the recent 2nd International Alumni Meeting in
Boston. There was a discussion regarding the importance of all Alumnis
worldwide contributing with yearly dues of $150 either through our
newsletter contribution envelopes or on our website,
tuftsprosthalumni.org. A request by Dr. Hirayama to pay for registration
fees for residents for the Greater New York Academy Meeting was
approved. Voting was completed for new membership and new officers. I
would like to congratulate our new Board Members: Dr. Alex Grous, Dr.
Yong Jeong Kim and Dr. Inna Amirian and our new officers: Dr. Alaa Al
Wazzan, Dr. Mario Gatti and Dr. Robert Chapman.
Finally, after ten years of service, Dr. Mariano announced that at our next
Annual Board Meeting in October 2011, he will be stepping down as
President and Dr. Alex Grous was nominated as PresidentElect. The
Board is confident that Dr. Grous will take our organization to the next
level. Dr. Mariano will work closely with Dr. Grous over the next year in
preparation for his Presidency. Dr. Grous has lead our most successful
chapter, the Greek Chapter, for the past five years and has great plans for
our entire organization over the next few years. We congratulate all of
the Board for a most successful Board Meeting and development of our
future transition strategy. All resolutions passed unanimously!
