Another year is off to a great start! Planning for this year’s
activities and trips is well underway. Joe, Jeff, Jean and I
are also attending the Trip Seminar on 5/16 to hone in on
pricing and attributes for the destinations that you voted for
in the trip survey.
We have several clear frontrunners so Joe has been busy soliciting bids from the trip providers. See Joe’s article in this
Newsletter.
The summer is already getting filled with so many exciting
options – the Comedy Club on 5/15; Thursday Trivia; Golf
Outing on 6/13; volleyball; Ravinia – just to name a few.
Check out all of the activity information in this Newsletter
or on our website.
See you at the 5/6 meeting!

The 2014-15 Ibex Annual Banquet was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity to celebrate another successful
ski season. Kemper Lakes Golf Club showcased a beautiful view of the golf course from its floor to ceiling windows.
The room was surrounded by a patio and people to advantage of the spring weather to sit outside during the cocktail
hour. The food was as delicious as the view was beautiful. Thanks to Ed Fee for putting together the slide show highlighting some of the best moments from the year’s ski trips.
This year we had a live band “Our House”, they were great! People danced all night long to a variety of songs from
the 60’s and 70’s.
Listed below are this year’s award recipients.
Ibex of the Year – Maureen Rosenbarger and Sue Weides
Most Improved Skier – Patti Bustle
The “GQ” Goatee went to Curt “Styling” Moore for being the sharpest dressed man in Madonna di Campiglio.
The Après Skiers of the Year Goatees went to Maureen Rosenbarger and Loretta Low for singing show tunes on
the bus ride home from the winery.
The Cheese Heads/Cheese Curds went to Bill and Bridget Haussmann and Karen Helfrecht for partying Wisconsin style and drinking beer and more beer and even more beer.
The Biggest Mistake Goatee went to Ed Fee for dropping his brand new iPhone through a slit in a mountain restaurant patio.
Thank you to Jim Malinowski and Bill Haussmann for donating their time and expertise to make a teen-age
boy’s wish of learning to ski come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
And a big thank you to everyone who volunteered to run activities over the past two years. It was much appreciated.
Cheers,
Sherri

Joe Kelley was an awesome assistant Trip Chair this year. Thank you very much for all of your help
and great ideas. Good Luck as you move into the Trip Chair position. The survey was great and I

SPRING BREAK IN SNOWMASS — RECAP
The Ibex group assembled at O’Hare early Saturday and in spite of the busy Spring Break Airport volume, it went
very smoothly. We met a few new Ibex friends Jud Puterbaugh and Claude Petit, and off we went. New Ibex friend
Roger Kohn came on the plane at the last minute with a few beads of sweat after barely making the connection with
us from his Vermont starting location, but he was very happy to be there. A few hours later we met more new Ibex
friends Sabine and Johan who arrived just ahead of us, in Denver, coming from the east coast as well.
Soon we were off with Russ the bus driver, after a stop for adult beverages and groceries, we settled in for a beautiful journey through the mountains to Snowmass. Arriving in Snowmass, we quickly discovered the descriptions of
the great slopeside condos were going to more than live up to expectations, with the slopes literally a couple steps
outside our doors, and very nice accommodations. Soon John and Debbie appeared as they had arrived earlier in
the day, having driven in from Arizona to enjoy the week with us.
The Top of The Village condo folks held a great welcome party and provided a nice overview of amenities we had
available.
Sunday was our first day of Skiing and it was a Bluebird spring ski day at Snowmass. Warm temperatures, and everyone's worries of a lower than normal snowfall impacting the skiing turned out to not be true. Conditions were very
good and the entire mountain was open.
Monday most of the group headed over to Aspen Highlands to enjoy another Bluebird spring skiing day. After a little
hot-tubbing by some, the entire group enjoyed a catered in BBQ dinner at the condo party room. A BYOB/W evening
was a great and inexpensive group dinner allowing bonding and sharing of exaggerated ski and snowboarding stories from the wonderful day.
Tuesday brought a quick switch back to Winter conditions with 6 or so fresh inches of snow that the group enjoyed at
Snowmass. The snow completely changed how the mountain skied and made for an great day.
On Wednesday those who decided not to take the day off, were greeted by another 5 or 6 inches of fresh and still
falling snow. Some enjoyed the barely tracked powder at Highlands and some stayed at Snowmass to enjoy the
fresh snow. Bill Haussmann celebrated the repeat performance by the snow gods, and rented some powder skis to
enjoy the day. By noon the Snowfall ended and it was an awesome sunny afternoon on the fresh snow. Michael
Zolna spent the afternoon showing the olds guys how to really ski, and sometimes even waited for his dad. The
group enjoyed Après ski at Highlands base and, as is tradition, perfectly timed the end of the Après ski partying with
the arrival of the last shuttle bus. The group shuffled over and barely were seated on the bus as it started to pull out.
Ed Martin had just sat down, when he jumped up at the movement of the bus and said something like "I left my helmet!" and started towards the front to stop the driver...luckily the accompanying Ibex Après skiers were on top of
their visual acuity game and quickly recognized and informed Ed that his helmet was actually not left behind, but
planted firmly on top of his head, nice save team !! :-) :-) The evening was spent a the "Big Hoss" Restaurant for a
group dinner. The restaurant was nice enough to give us a space with 2 big screen TV's, a nice touch with both a
Bulls and Hawks game going on. Unfortunately there was a bit of problem with the remotes, John Brandt did his best
to work with the staff and try and get the TV's straightened out, his efforts yielded the Ibex group an opportunity to
get to know each other even better without the distraction of those games any longer, because the TV's never

Thursday the group headed over for a day at Aspen mountain. This day greeted us with cooler temperatures again in
the morning and spectacular blue skies. All but the very lower part of the mountain held up with Winter snow conditions.
The group met for lunch at the Sundeck restaurant at the top that provides awesome views of the surrounding mountains and a great view of Aspen Highlands Bowl, providing a great backdrop for more Kodak moments. The Zolna family

they found (you know there are 91 varieties there!!). The Bendickson's and Kimicata's spent their off day at the famous
Glenwood Springs pool and came back with great pictures. Party girls Olga and Neda tried to get folks to go Aspen for
dancing every night, and actually succeeded a few times. Then there is trying to follow Drew around the mountain, does
that guy ever get tired? A few lucky ladies were treated to new skis by their wonderful husbands :-) (At least that is the
story Bill and Lou are sticking with). Ask Jean what her doctor said after seeing the x-ray of her ankle (did he really say
"Suck it up Buttercup and get back out there"?).

SNOWMASS RECAP — CONT.
Lucy and I want to thank everyone who joined us on this trip to Snowmass, it was truly a pleasure to lead such a
warm and friendly group for our Spring Vacation Trip. These spring trips seem to yield one the biggest variety of ages of the trips (maybe 8 - 70+ this year), and it is always great to see everyone enjoying each other's company and
interacting. We appreciate all the helpers we had to clean up the party room after the 3 condo events, your help
made it a breeze. Also, we want to call out John and Debbie with a big thanks for driving Jean to the hospital after
her ankle "incident" on the slopes.

Lou & Lucy

TRIPS 2015 – 2016
I would like to thank Jean for two great years as Trip Chair. She put together some amazing trips. This past season Ibex filled 202 spots on trips and our goal is to continue that
for 2015 – 2016 ski season.
The trip survey is completed. Thank you all for giving us your responses. This is a great
tool for us to learn where our members would like to ski. Four of us from the EB will be
attending the CMSC trip seminar on May 16. This will be start of getting bids and finding
great deals for Ibex. Based on the survey we are not going to offer an early December
trip this year due lack of interest. We plan to start our trips off with the New Year’s trip.
It’s a great way to start the New Year being in the mountains skiing.
Our plans are to set up a Europe trip (with extension option), short trip out west, week
long western trip, spring break trip, and the weekend Midwest trip. We will be looking for
trip leaders and if you have any interest send me an email. Locations and dates will be
announced in the summer and the trip sign up party will be in August.
Also, if anyone is interested in being part of the trip planning process I am looking for trip
assistance. If interested email at [email protected] or see me at meeting.
Hope to see you all at the monthly meeting.

In compliance with the new government imposed internet regulations, and as good stewards of the internetio-sphere , Ibex Ski (and Snowboard) Club is
proud to announce the launch of Ibex Project Virtual-Gaia. Project Virtual-Gaia is dedicated to the complete recovery of Virtual-Ideas, Virtual-Energy,
and Virtual-y-Anything-Senseless. We ask that all club members read their Newsletter (and other official club correspondence) and, instead of deleting it
and thus wasting the electrons, photons and othertons that were used in it’s manufacture, print it out in its full chromacolor majesty and then burn it,
but big-time, releasing all its glorious stored electro-quantum energy back into the biosphere where it belongs! Remember, it’s up to all of us to do our
part to do things that conserve things! Ibex uses only free-range electrons in the publication of this newsletter.
