Symposium Announcement - National Centre of Literacy and
Enhancing Aspirations of Pasifika Communities
through Literacy, Language and Numeracy
The National Centre of Literacy and Numeracy for Adults is very pleased to
advise that the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) will host the inaugural
Pasifika Literacy and Numeracy Symposium on Friday 30 November 2012.
The Symposium theme “Enhancing Aspirations of Pasifika Communities
through Literacy, Language and Numeracy” highlights the fundamental role of
Educators in enhancing community capability and achievement.
The Symposium is a professional dialogue event. An inspirational keynote
presentation will be followed by a series of workshops formatted to balance
content presentations and reflection. Our desire is to create an event where
participants:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Plan how to enhance Pasifika communities’ literacy and numeracy
capabilities
Revitalise fellow educators of Pasifika communities
Reflect on how to shape workplace literacy and numeracy practices
Explore ways of using diagnostic information to develop appropriate
pedagogies
Consider ways of optimising the use of Assessment Tool
Share with fellow practitioners what is working in their learning
environments (quick flicks)
Each workshop will be supported by a keynote presenter and a facilitator with
the exception of the “quick flicks” practitioner session.
The format of the day will include a number of the key workshops being
repeated. This allows participants to choose workshops that are most relevant
to them or their organisation.
This website will be updated with a full programme shortly which will carry
more detail on each of the workshops.
Attendance at the Symposium is free, however numbers are limited. To
secure your opportunity to meet with colleagues who are active in the literacy
and numeracy fields and who share a passion for supporting Pasifika people to
realise their full potential please contact:
