Railpower GenSet Locomotive Basics
•
•
•
•
GenSet Locomotive: 2 or more off-highway engine-alternator packages work
together to power the locomotive
Power-on-Demand: GenSets only come online when power needed
Auto-Start-Stop: Locomotive shuts down and restarts automatically when
needed
Even wear: GenSet with fewest operating hours comes online first

RP Series Intermodal Application
Technology, Performance, Support: The Railpower GenSet Difference
Unique features of Railpower’s GenSet technology make the RP Series the
perfect solution for Intermodal operations. Such features include:
• Modular design accommodates projected intermodal future growth today.
• Customers can purchase 2 engines on GP9 or longer platform, and install a
3rd engine when they need capacity to improve and expedite operations.
• Additionally, using 2,000hp on a GP9 allows customers to negotiate tight
turns in classification and intermodal yards.
• Multi-purpose characteristics allow RP Series to provide optimal performance for
yard and road service.
• Example: RCL expertise and integration enhances yard operations while PTC
expertise for local service both featured on the same locomotive allow it to
work within or outside yard boundaries.
• A fast loading rate in switching portions of yard duty expedites resegmenting of trains, yet AC-like adhesion allows customers to efficiently
pull out large sorted trains.
