First Fruits Offering – helping the children of Thailand
connect with
God
the church
your purpose
Barry x3029, [email protected]
We are excited that we have the opportunity to help the children of Thailand
through our First Fruits offering the first week of January. The principle of first fruits
is to give to God the first of the resources with which God blesses us. We are giving
all of our offering income from the first week of January as well as the offering
from Christmas Eve to go to the children of Thailand. We will be working through
Compassion International and our own missionaries Mike and Becky Mann. With
Compassion, we will assist two churches in Thailand that provide mothers and young
children with food, medical assistance, and other parenting resources. Through the
Manns, we will provide a village with a school and other resources that will minister
to the children both physically and spiritually.

Learn about Purpose Church
at Starting Point Class!
Bev x3017, [email protected]
Come join us at our next
STARTING POINT class Sunday,
January 10 from 12:30-2:30pm.
We invite you to come to C101 after
the third service for lunch. While
we’re eating, there will be a chance
to get acquainted with others who
are there. It is a great time to be
with Pastors Glenn, Lisa, and Gregg
in a small group setting to learn how
to be more involved in connecting,
growing, and serving here at Purpose
Church. For those interested in
baptism and/or membership, you
will learn the steps to take to make
that happen.
Please join us for this free class
and lunch. Childcare is provided
for children 12 and under with
reservations. We need to know you
are coming, so please make a lunch
reservation by writing Starting Point
on your Connect card or contact Bev
Moudy.
Happy New Year!

John 20:31
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the
Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 1:3
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has
been made.
Why is Jesus greater than me?
“In the beginning was the Word …” John 1:1
“When we think about the size of the universe we realize that we are nothing more
than specks on a speck in a speck. And yet most of the time we think we are pretty
speck-tacular.” Jon Courson
“John calls Jesus the Word because he had come to see the words of Jesus as the
truth of God and the person of Jesus as the truth of God in such a unified way that
Jesus himself – in his coming, and working, and teaching, and dying and rising –
was the final and decisive Message of God.” John Piper
Psalm 33:9
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
1. I HAVE A ______________ AND JESUS IS
______________.
John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
3. I WAS A __________, BUT JESUS MADE ME A
____________ OF ________.
John 8:34-35
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35
Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it
forever.
“If God was small enough to understand He wouldn’t be large enough to be
worshipped.”
J.B. Phillips
2. I WAS ______________, BUT JESUS
______________ ______________.
3
5. I AM A ______________, BUT JESUS IS THE _________________ FOR SIN.
John 1:4-13
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in
the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came
as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might
believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
10
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the
world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his
own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who
believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
13
children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s
will, but born of God.
John 1:29-30
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb
of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when
I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before
me.’”
John 1:20, 26-28
He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
26
“I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not
know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am
not worthy to untie.”
28
This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where
John was baptizing.
4. I AM ______________, BUT JESUS IS ________
IN THE FLESH.
John 1:14-18
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his
glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of
grace and truth.
15
(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I
spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because
he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in
place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the
one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the
Father, has made him known.
Look what Jesus has done for me!
Ephesians 2:4-7
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us
alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace
you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us
with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming
ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his
kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
John 14:9
“Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
John 1:16 ESV
“And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”
