IF THE PROOF IS
IN THE PUDDING...
. . . the sheer number of school
meals being enjoyed each day and
the clean plates being returned to
the kitchen is testament to the high
quality provision at Loughborough
Endowed Schools.
My team of 50 staff work around the clock in three professional
kitchens to cater for in excess of 2,400 pupils from age 3 to 18,
including 60 boarders, plus over 500 staff across the four schools
within the Foundation.
OUR CATERING PROVISION
LUNCH
We have a whole school approach to healthy eating and nutrition,
combining education with fun: teaching about a balanced diet
in which some foods play a greater part than others, and putting
that knowledge to good use each and every lunchtime.
Lunch is a lively and sociable affair with a high percentage of
pupils choosing the hot meal selection daily. Dining Room
Supervisors are on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly.
With two full boarding houses, breakfast starts early with freshly
made omelettes the popular choice for boys preparing for a
busy day. They enjoy lunch with their peers, then evening meal
is a relaxed affair. Overseas boarders enjoy a taste of home with
authentic dishes prepared by talented chefs. Breakfast or brunch
is served later at the weekends and everyone enjoys the Boarders’
Christmas Meal prior to the festive break.
FOOD AS PART OF SCHOOL LIFE
The success of my team is in having highly qualified and
experienced leaders who take great pride in their offering,
working alongside our hardworking and dedicated kitchen
support staff, all striving continually to raise the bar and keep the
food offer fresh and inviting.
Menus are designed by the catering managers; food comes in
fresh every day and is cooked that day ready for the hungry and
energetic pupils and staff who sit and eat together in the warm
and inviting dining halls. As you can imagine, with this number
of people to feed there are many different dietary and religious
requirements to cater for.
BOARDERS
Pupils making an informed choice at
the hot food counter.
Pre-prep pupils, who are generally
fussier, are served at their table.
Throughout the year, we link our menus to events in the schools’
calendars. We offer a selection of dishes to mark the European
Day of Languages, use seasonal crops in our Harvest Festival
lunches, create a range of dishes for Diwali and Chinese New Year
celebrations, feature dishes from competing countries during
the football and rugby World Cups, and to round off the autumn
term, pupils and staff come together for a whole-Foundation
Christmas dinner.
“It is a proven fact that children
who eat well at lunchtime perform
better in the afternoon.”
Our fresh meat suppliers are Halal registered and all catering
staff, no matter what their role in the kitchen, have an in-depth
understanding of the importance of treating all dietary and
religious requirements with reverence and respect, ensuring
complete peace of mind for both parents and pupils.
Fresh fruit and tasty natural yoghurts
are always available.

Our menus are varied
to suit everyone’s requirements.

Any pupil can volunteer to represent their year on the Student
Food Council. The group meets each term with teachers and
key catering staff giving voice to students’ concerns and any
suggestions they may have on the daily lunch menus and, where
applicable, the tuck provision.
