este Jacobs continued to successfully
implement its growth strategy by achieving
a 15% growth rate vs. the previous year. The
board of directors’ set target of doubling the company
was achieved in 4 years. Currently, we are operating
the brain power of more than 1 300 professionals in
an international arena of technology development,
engineering and project management.
Our staff is more international than ever, and more
than 300 of our professionals are working abroad,
either in project locations or international locations we
have established ourselves. Currently, our handprint
can be seen in all corners of the world. We have
established ourselves in Finland, Sweden, Norway,
The Netherlands, Azerbaijan, The UAE and Singapore.
We also reached a significant position within
our home market. Neste Jacobs is now the No.
1 engineering company in the industry sector in
Finland and overall No. 2 in exports of professional
services. We were listed as the No. 2 Best Trading
Partner by Plimsoll World analysts amongst the
225 largest engineering companies in the Nordic
Countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark).
The Best Trading Partner category counts the overall
performance of the company eg. sales and financial
strength amongst other key performance indicators.
We serve the process industry
Our clear strategic target is to master process industry
technology development, engineering and project
management. On top of this, our service portfolio is
targeted in three main topics: Finding New, Building
New and Improving Existing.
In Finding New, our NJx technologies are novel and
adding value to our customers’ businesses. Our topnotch Consulting Unit offers high-level Management
Consulting services. Technology Co-development is
something our customers really appreciate, because it
4
NESTE JACOBS ANNUAL REPORT 2015
is the expressway from their R&D laboratories to fullscale commercial production facilities.
In Building New, our 60-year history of green field
and brown field project implementation is invaluable.
We implement a number of investment projects
throughout our operations, with an annual Total
Investment Cost (TIC) of several billion euros. Our
EPCM concept is unbeatable and saves our customers
money and time. For investment projects, we have now
launched a comprehensive Investment Material Supply
and Management Service (IMS) under which we can
take care of the entire supply and management of our
customers’ investment materials.
Improving Existing is becoming more and more
important to our customers as requirements for
efficiency and lower emissions are increasing. In this
portfolio, our world-class NAPCON – GET MORE
product family plays a vital role, along with NJe2
energy efficiency product. One of our innovative
approaches is the FLEXICRACKER concept for
Feedstock flexible crackers. These days, almost all our
projects involve shutdown or turnaround work. In 2015,
we implemented several turnarounds, from small unit
turnarounds to entire refinery scale turnarounds.
The whole operation of Neste Jacobs stands on the
simple base that Safety and Quality are present in
everything we do. This starts from the drawing board
and goes all the way to construction sites.
After strong growth years, we are now looking for
more in our delivery capability and profitability as a
natural result of this. Growth is imperative, but we feel
it is time to digest, too. The company’s overall growth
target remains at 10% per annum. The growth is
coming mostly from our international operations. The
delivery capability is driven by the NJWay program,
in which we streamline our business and delivery
processes to match or exceed the industry standard.

Another year of
profitable growth
Risto Takkala

he year 2015 was the fifth consecutive year
of growth in the light of the most important
business indicators. The amount of customer
work grew by 10% to 1.9 million work hours and value
of delivered customer services grew by 15% to EUR 144
million. Both scores are annual all-time-highs in Neste
Jacobs’ history. These numbers are an excellent result
of work by more than 1 300 professionals employed
through the Neste Jacobs network in 2015.
Deliveries grew in all customer segments. Hydrocarbon
Industries, including e.g. oil, gas and petrochemicals,
grew by 20% and remained the biggest segment
representing almost 70% of the total revenue.
Deliveries to Bio Industries, including e.g. biofuels,
biochemicals and biopharma, grew by 17%.
The year 2015 was also promising from the
international growth strategy point of view. A quarter
of the total revenue originated from the offices
outside of Finland. The major growth area was the
Scandinavian market, mainly Sweden, in which the
revenue more than doubled. Revenue growth in the
Middle East market was 20%. Central Eastern Europe
was also a growth market for Neste Jacobs in 2015,
with 20% growth compared to 2014. The company
strategy to grow outside its traditional home market
was clearly bearing fruit. At the same time, the anchor
customer base was widened and long-term customers
6
NESTE JACOBS ANNUAL REPORT 2015
indicated their trust by placing their core project
orders with Neste Jacobs.
Intensive internal development work also continued
in 2015. In this decade, the company has invested
some 100 000 hours to further improve the services
and internal work processes. The development work
is already visible as improved cost efficiency and
has given a good basis to further widen the service
offering. The company is aiming to be a leader in all
business aspects in its field.
The company continued to invest in state-of-the-art
systems and tools. We are closing following-up and
being part of on-going industrial revolution, taking
in the global arena, called Internet-Of-Things (IOT).
Being effectively a Data Refiner and company’s core
being information management, Neste Jacobs is well
positioned to be amongst the winners in this big-scale
industrial change.
Equity at the end of 2015 was EUR 49 million, and
the company is net debt free. The 2016 Opening
Order back-log is 1.200.000 work hours, and the
owners backing for the strategy implementation is
strong. Neste Jacobs starts the year 2016 in a good
position. The focus in business-enabling functions is in
supporting both sales and delivery to be able to fulfill
their set targets for 2016.

Successful sales turned into
solid top line growth
Heikki Pikkarainen
SVP, Sales
T
hree years ago, we set the target of doubling
the company and growing the top line by at
least 10% annually. Since 2013, we have grown
the top line by more than 40%; the big leap taking
place in 2014 and an another 15% in 2015. This is
excellent evidence of the fact that our services enjoy
great demand with our existing and new customers.
During 2015, we put special emphasis on the
development of our international network. Neste
Jacobs is becoming a truly global player, and in
addition to our offices in the Nordic countries (Finland,
Sweden and Norway), we are locally present in the
Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan and
Singapore. Generally speaking, we have projects all
around the world, in sectors where we possess unique
competences.
In 2015, we were glad to register several new
customers in our books. Some examples of those
are MOL in Hungary and INA in Croatia, SOCAR in
Azerbaijan and Rolls Royce in France.
Focus on hydrocarbon and bio-industries
We focus on serving customers in or related to
the hydrocarbon and bio-industries, as well as
industrial infrastructure type of projects such as
power distribution networks, tank terminals and rock
caverns, industrial gas and LNG facilities, cooling
water systems, jetties, etc. We have developed strong
competence in all of those areas during our 60 years
of existence in business, and we see good prospects
for them also in the future. Hydrocarbon industries is
large business globally, and bio-industries is growing
at a fast pace in today’s world.
engineering and project management form the
backbone of our offering. We can take the role of
engineering partner for our customers and perform
various Studies, Basis Engineering/FEED and EPCM
projects. Alternatively, we act in a PMC (Project
Management Consulting) or Owner’s Team role.
Over the decades, we have managed investment
projects for our customers, ranging from some tens of
thousands of euros to over a billion euros.
Neste Jacobs offers an extremely competitive
portfolio of automation solutions under the NAPCON
brand. In 2015, we were able to win several new
customers for our NAPCON solutions, and the demand
outlook is very promising, as the added value of
NAPCON solutions is really superb in the process
industry.
Technology Co-development is another interesting
service offering. Companies want to tap new business
opportunities and gain competitive advantage through
innovation. Combining customers’ resources with those
of our own helps to achieve results faster and with
higher certainty. In our Technology Co-development
concept, our customer will usually end up owning the
IP rights to the innovation as needed.
In the beginning of 2016, we introduced Investment
Material Management and Supply Service (‘IMS’)
to our offering. Under IMS, we supply investment
materials to a customer’s investment project at
the right time and with the right quantities. Our
IMS aims to improve the efficiency of investment
material management and eliminate this task from the
customer for whom an investment project is more an
one-time event rather than a core activity.
Neste Jacobs continuously develops the

he year 2015 was an all-time-high in Neste
Jacobs’ history in terms of delivered hours
in customer projects (1.9 million, meaning
19 % growth in through-put vs. 2014). One of the
contributors for the good work load was the mega
turnaround of Neste Porvoo Refinery in Finland. The
Turnaround was one of the largest of its kind in the
world. Besides extensive maintenance works, Neste
carried out a significant investment portfolio, in which
Neste Jacobs had a role of main EPCM contractor. In
spite of very demanding, time-constrained execution,
Turnaround was successful and clear evidence was
shown about Neste Jacobs’ capability to manage
extremely complex and very challenging tasks
successfully.
Neste Jacobs’ back-log of orders in 2015 was strong.
We have worked hard with our customers’ strategic,
long-lasting projects, which were initiated in 2014.
In addition Neste Jacobs delivered new projects in
Sweden, the UAE and Azerbaijan. The co-operation
with Borealis Group evolved further as Neste Jacobs
was awarded the project of 5-year Cracker Furnace
Renewal Program in Stenungsund, Sweden. The
project enables a solid foundation for Neste Jacobs
10
NESTE JACOBS ANNUAL REPORT 2015
operations in the Nordics. In October, a significant
polyolefin investment was successfully completed at
Borealis Finland. Neste Jacobs had a role of EPCM
contractor. Interesting projects in other market
segments (e.g. LNG project in Pori, Finland and
MetsäFibre Bioproduct project in Äänekoski, Finland)
progressed well in 2015.
As evidence of Neste Jacobs’ growth strategy
implementation in 2015, the company recruited more
than 230 new employees, most of whom are working
in projects delivery. Well-prepared introduction and
training of new employees has been a remarkable and
important effort, along with the high work load.
In the end of 2014, Neste Jacobs changed to a
process-based business model. In 2015, a lot of
streamlining and efficiency improvement actions were
performed for the benefit of our customers.
In the end of 2015, Neste Jacobs decided to
start a new business unit for Investment Material
Management and Supply Service (IMS). In the first
phase, IMS is serving mainly our existing hydrocarbon
customers in Finland but is already available for our
other customers as well.

Health, Safety, Environment
and Quality are at the heart
of our operations
Kirsi Rintamäki
VP, HSEQ
T
he employees at Neste Jacobs once again
reached an important safety milestone in
November 2015, remaining at zero recordable
incidents for 5 straight years. This achievement gives
us the assurance that with keeping up and improving
the excellent safety work, we are able to achieve our
target zero incidents covering all parties involved
in our projects and services, including construction
contractors.
The key safety index TRIF (Total Recordable Injury
Frequency per million hours worked), which includes
both Neste Jacobs’ own employees, agencies and
construction contractors, was 2.2 for 2015. The TRI
cases in 2015 were related to construction contractors.
The incidents have been thoroughly investigated and
necessary improvement actions have been taken. The
amount of construction site work was outstandingly
high in 2015 due to the huge turnarounds executed
in our customers’ sites, where our own employees
worked with great dedication and without incident.
The safety work continues in close collaboration with
our customers and construction contractors in order to
maintain the safety awareness at the expected level.
Quality – Listening to the customers’ voices
and continual improvement
We listen carefully to our customers’ voices, and we
constantly collect feedback through face-to-face
interviews. In 2015, over 100 surveys were conducted,
and the feedback has been used for enhancement
of our business processes and procedures. This is
one of the most important ways of improving our
services to meet requirements and providing value for
our customers. Based both on our own and external
surveys in 2015, 100% of our customers would select
Neste Jacobs as their service provider in the future
as well. This is the great feedback in 2015 from our
customers and, at the same time, placing us in the
position of having the responsibility to bear the given
credit and delivery as agreed.
12
NESTE JACOBS ANNUAL REPORT 2015
Last year, we exceeded our safety and quality
observation targets; altogether, around 8 000
observations were made. These observations set the
base for our continual improvement and willingness
to learn. In order to further increase the awareness of
the significance of safety and quality in our business
and for our clients, OHS and quality networking
teams were constituted having representatives from
all NJ locations. In addition, a new efficient incident
investigation method was implemented and new
eLearnings on safety and quality were launched in
NJAcademy.
The NJ management system is certified and conforms
to the requirements of international standards ISO
9001 (quality), OHSAS 18001 (occupational health
and safety), PED-H module (design, manufacture
and testing of piping systems) and ISO 14001
(environmental). Special effort was taken in steps
forward to successfully implement an environmental
management system in the Middle East Operations
and now we hold there the ISO14001 certificate.
Business process development – Adding value
to our Customers
In 2015, the NJWay work started where our dedicated
business processes for both projects and for services
have been developed. In the beginning of 2015, the
work was focused on the core processes and later
moving more towards to implementing the new way
of working. At the same time, the business process
descriptions have been deepened to the next level,
and the communication about the new NJWay
processes has been spread within the Company.
Only by continuing the persistent work for our
business processes improvement are we able to meet
expectations covering all our operations and deliver
safe, sustainable and reliable products and services to
our customers.

We serve you with a
global network
of professionals
Miia Lehmuskoski
VP, HR
Strong growth continued
For Neste Jacobs employees, the year 2015 has been
a year of interesting global projects and intensive
growth and development. In the Nordics, the Porvoo
refinery’s mega turnaround project was a great
opportunity for many Neste Jacobs professionals
to use their expertise in a challenging timespan and
environment.
Globally, during the year 2015, our organic growth
continued to be strong, and altogether more than 230
new professionals joined Neste Jacobs. To serve our
clients even better in the global market, we ensured
that our staff structure continued to diversify. There is
now a wider than ever selection of professions, core
competences, cultural backgrounds and languages
spoken among our employees. Together with our
network of subcontractors and work-sharing partners,
we now form a pool of more than 1 300 highly skilled
and ambitious team players.
Competence is the base for success
In Neste Jacobs, we aim to constantly grow as
professionals and share our knowledge openly.
In competence management, we systematically
continued to develop the leadership, project
management and technical skills of our staff. A special
focus area during the 2015 year was the development
of communication and negotiation skills of our project
management professionals.
In order to turn our strategy into competence,
we continued to profit from a Neste Jacobs-wide
competence development and knowledge-sharing
platform called NJAcademy. In NJAcademy, we now
offer 10 e-learning and 13 face-to-face ongoing courses
for our employees.
Competent, accountable team players
Neste Jacobs’ competitive edge is based on our
ability to combine the wide-ranging competences,
experience and ideas of our people to create better
solutions. In performance management, we have
learned that professionalism has a lot to do with the
working attitude and customer orientation of our staff.
By developing and sharing the company strategy
with our people, we ensure that our employees see
the purpose of their work and give – and respect –
feedback and recognition. Our people seek to go
through even the toughest of challenges and we
acknowledge their success when goals are met.

Governance relies on
achieving objectives
Anne Simolinna
Head of Legal and Risk
Neste Jacobs is enabled to act as an independent and
competitive engineering company. This is applied
both by its owners, and equally, to all the subsidiaries,
branches and regional offices of Neste Jacobs.
In 2015, the governance focus has been on setting
a purposeful structure for the business of Neste
Jacobs throughout the various geographical regions it
operates. Executing projects at its customers’ locations
mandates an ability to flexibly adjust its operations
to any geographical location that Neste Jacobs has
elected to be present for its customers.
Risk Management – Address Uncertainty
We recognize that risk is an integral and unavoidable
component of our business and is characterized by
both threat and opportunity. We promote a riskawareness culture in all decision making.
The Neste Jacobs Risk Management Policy, approved
by the Board of Directors in 2015, defines the main
guidelines, processes, framework and governance of
risk management at Neste Jacobs for managing the
risks associated with the strategic and operational
targets of Neste Jacobs, and is, to a large extent, in
line with the ISO 31000 standard.
Throughout the year 2015, we focused on developing
risk management and monitoring the most material
risks of the company and ensuring the proper risk
management. One decisive element in securing
and developing Neste Jacobs’ operational risk
management has been the establishment of the Risk
Management Network. The Risk Management Network
16
NESTE JACOBS ANNUAL REPORT 2015
combines both regional entities and functional
processes by coordinating risk management activities
within Neste Jacobs, reviewing the operational risk
profile, and co-operating with the different processes
of Neste Jacobs in the implementation of risk
mitigation work.
Legal – Competence in Law
Continuous and close activities with the sales team
by the legal function has focused on tackling legal
and contractual risks during 2015. By continuous
implementation of the Neste Jacobs’ standard sales
contracts has achieved the legal function a greater
ability to repeat processes in a consistent manner
and enabled to focus further on project specific
requirements. Efficient contract management has
reduced gaps in risk and compliance and achieved
greater ability to gather contractual information
quickly and efficiently.
Compliance – Act with Integrity
Neste Jacobs observes a number of principles and
guidelines to prevent and deal with misconduct.
Regulations include principles covering on supply
of its own services as well as procurement both for
Neste Jacobs’ further resources and as a provision
of service, the procurement of works and materials,
should be negotiated. The Neste Jacobs Code of
Conduct defines the general approach that every
employee is expected to follow. Continuous efforts
were made during 2015 to identify and evaluate the
risks associated with possible misconduct.

formed. Jacobs Engineering Inc became a minority owner in 2004, and the name Neste Jacobs was given.
Today, Neste Jacobs is an independent engineering company and the Nordic region’s leading provider of
technology, engineering and project management services for the oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals,
biorefining, biochemicals, biopharma and industrial infrastructure. We currently employ over 1300 people, and the
