EDUCATION
isn’t merely a phase in one’s life. It’s a lifelong journey
and an investment in one’s future. Hear what our
trainees said after attending our courses.
Ms Chua Jia Hui is one of TEHO International’s employees who attended the F3 Financial Accounting course. Through
this course, she mastered technical accounting knowledge which has helped her to keep up with the changes in
accounting practices and standards. Her employer, TEHO believes in giving employees the opportunities to take on
more responsibilities, at the same time gain exposure in different work areas. Hence they encourage continuous
learning and training to increase employees’ work effectiveness and satisfaction, which in turn retain employees and
reduce turnover.
A diagnosis of cervical cancer caused Ms Shirley Too to quit her full-time job as a
civil engineer to seek immediate treatment. Upon full recovery, she was optimistic
about finding employment. But after several failed attempts, she started losing her
self-confidence. At the advice of her ex-colleagues, Shirley decided to pursue the
Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Certification in Workplace Safety and
Health (WSH) at NTUC LearningHub (LHUB). After attaining the WSQ
Certification in WSH, Ms Too was inspired to advance her studies in the field. She
enrolled in the WSQ Advanced Certificate in WSH course and subsequently
completed the WSQ Specialist Diploma in WSH. Currently she is a Safety Officer
at WellTech Construction.
The importance of conversing and writing in proper English is essential in Ms Jennifer
Jan’s line of work as a Customer Service Executive. To improve her communication
skills, she took up the WPLN Burlington English course with LHUB. The course helped
her greatly in the area of pronunciation and writing, as well as using the appropriate
grammar for different context.
Leong Lee Eng
Tay Shee Huang
At the age of 56, Ms Leong leads a fruitful life and is
always keen to learn new things. However, she was
unable to overcome one learning barrier – that is to master
computer skills. Realising the need to master these skills
which will help in her current job and with the support from
her family, she decided to sign up for the Microsoft Excel
Core 2010 course under LHUB. With the help of LHUB’s
dedicated trainer, Ms Leong was able to master the
concepts taught and apply them in her current work. This
increases her productivity and she is more confident in her
daily work using Excel. Ms Leong encourages seniors to
be proactive in lifelong learning, and also urges the
younger generation in playing a part to encourage and
support their learning process.
Technology has changed rapidly over the years.
Being in the IT industry for over 9 years, Mr Tay
realised the need to upgrade his skills to meet the
demands of his job. He took up the ICND1 and
ICND2 courses in order to achieve the CCNA
certification. After attending the courses, he could
understand the various networking issues better
and value-add to the organisation effectively. He
added that constant upgrading of skills is vital in
every industry, especially in the IT field as it helps in
one’s career progression in the long run.

Security Skills
As an industry, security plays a pivotal role in securing and preventing loss of lives and properties through criminal acts
and acts of terrorism against a nation in general and owners of properties in particular.
Above all, security is a profession that is both demanding and rewarding to individuals. Demanding because of the
role as a guardian of lives and properties that an individual is assigned to. Rewarding as a career as individuals could
advance as far up the career ladder as one aspires to. This and much more is made possible with the introduction of the
WSQ Security framework driven through the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) with full support from
the security industry and our government, and supports the Progressive Wage Model.
