A guide to moorings and dry berth facilities
NB Keys are required for access to a number of our moorings. A part refundable deposit
of £30 applies for each key issued. Please note the length restrictions of the moorings.
The waiting list will be longer for boats longer in length than 6 metres. Also please
note that all moorings carry a minimum metre charge.
Terms and Conditions
1. Customers will be placed on the waiting list according to the date we receive a
completed application form.
2. You should send a cheque for £85 made payable to Bournemouth Water with your
completed application form.
3. All payments made under this scheme are non-refundable.
4. You may specify the mooring category where you wish to have a mooring and will
only be offered moorings that are vacant within these categories. If you do not specify
any category, you will be offered the next available mooring wherever it may be on
the Royalty.
5. Please make sure that your vessel or intended vessel is suitable for at least one of
the mooring locations in each category specified. To help you, please refer to the
‘Mooring descriptions’ section in this leaflet.
7. Vacancies are offered in strict rotational order, based on the date we receive your
application and having regard to the selected categories. All offers are made at the
mooring manager’s discretion.

Christchurch Harbour is set midway
between the Solent and Poole Harbour
and provides easy access to one of the
most popular areas for boating on the
south coast. The harbour offers practical
and picturesque moorings for small to
medium-sized craft.
Payment for moorings must be made
annually in advance unless you elect to pay
by Direct Debit. This allows you to spread
the cost of your mooring.

the River Avon and Stour and cover
approximately three-quarters of the
Harbour. Within this area, there is a
range of moorings from bankside and
pontoon moorings in the river, to self
laid swinging moorings in the harbour.
Draught restrictions of a metre or less
allow only small and medium sized craft
to use the harbour. All craft, which moor
in the harbour, must be able to rest on
the bottom at low tide.
The compound consists of 52 dry storage
docks and approximately 10 pontoon
moorings.

A Tuckton Buoyed Trots - Trot moorings
above Tuckton Bridge. Only suitable
for boats with maximum of 2.1m
(7ft) superstructure above waterline
(clearing Tuckton Bridge). For vessels
between 7.9m (26ft) and 9.1m (30ft)
in length with a draught up to 1.5m.
Dinghy/tender required for access, and
space is provided on Tuckton Island
Pontoon for storage.
B Riverside Trots - Trot moorings above
Tuckton Bridge, suitable for boats
with a maximum of 2.1m (7ft)
superstructure above the waterline to
pass under the bridge. Moorings for
vessels up to 7.9m (26ft) in length and
draught up to 1.5m. A dinghy/tender
is required for mooring access with
storage spaces provided on Tuckton
Island.
C Tuckton Creek - Bow on and alongside
moorings. Some have access via
Tuckton Island. Most are suitable for
vessels with a length of approximately
5.5m (18ft) and with a 0.6m (2ft)
draught.
D Tuckton Fixed Trots - Ten mid-stream
moorings between steel piles. For
vessels between 7.9m (26ft) and 12.2m
(40ft) in length with a draught of up
to 1.2m (4ft). Dinghy/tender required
for access, and space is provided on
Tuckton Island Pontoon for storage.
E Tuckton Island Pontoon - Limited
number of deep water pontoon
moorings, access via Tuckton Island.
F Tuckton Basin Pontoon - Bow on
pontoon moorings. Outside - pontoon
for vessels up to 7.3m (24ft) in length,
with a 0.6m (2ft) draught. Inside of
pontoon for vessels up to 6.1m (20ft)
in length, with a 0.6m (2ft) draught.
G Riverlands - Trot moorings alongside
the riverbank. Boats can be pulled
towards the bank to embark. For
vessels up to 8.2m (27ft) with a
draught of 0.9m (3ft) for the majority
of the moorings. Moorings at either
end of Riverlands are for 6.4m (21ft)
vessels with 0.6m (2ft) draught.
H Wick Trots - Trot moorings. Dinghy/
tender required for access. For vessels
up to 7.9m (26ft) in length with a
draught of 0.9m (3ft).
I Broadwaters - Bow on moorings for
vessels up to 6.1m (20ft) in length and
with 0.6m (2ft) draught.
J Quomps Moorings - Mid-stream trot
moorings for various sizes of boats
from 6.1m (20ft) to 9.1m (30ft) with
a draught of up to 0.9m (3ft). Dinghy/
tender required for access and storage
facility available for Quomps mooring
holders.
K Stanpit bank - Fore and aft trot
moorings. Access by tender either from
across the river by annual contract with
Christchurch Marine or under own
arrangements.
L Waterloo bank - Berths on the river
bank from our land. Access through
a locked gate. Landing stage access.
Public car park nearby.
M Waterloo Compound Pontoon - limited
number of pontoon moorings, access
via Waterloo Compound (Bridge
Street). For vessels with a draught up to
0.9m (3ft).
N Waterloo Compound - Hard standing
storage for vessels on trailers up to
6.1m (20ft) in length. Access to river
via compound slipway.
NB. Hengistbury Head & Stanpit Creek - Owner laid swinging trot moorings. Suitable for shallow draught
vessels (0.6m (2ft) or less) that must be able to rest on the bottom at low tide. New customers must
check existing tackle and buoys. Dinghy/tender required for access via public slipways.

Mayor’s Mead at Quomps - River Stour
This is a voluntary organisation, responsible
for safety and security on the water.
Regrettably thefts do occur and the aim
is to foster a responsible attitude of boat
owners towards their equipment. We
cannot stress too highly how important it
is for boats and equipment to be properly
secured and locked. The Harbour Watch
is an active organisation. Be a good
neighbour and report any suspicious or
antisocial activity.

Speed limit
This is 4 knots within the harbour and river.
Excess speed can cause excessive wash
which can cause damage and even safety
risks. Please take care.
Waiting lists for moorings
There is a demand for moorings which
is in excess of the number of moorings
available. We try to ensure 100%
occupancy of moorings throughout
the year. We also have a waiting list for
potential mooring holders which is offered
on a strict first come first served basis.
There is an administration charge of £85 to
go on the waiting list.
Christchurch Harbour Association
Fishing in the Lower Stour and
Harbour
This is a voluntary organisation responsible
for efficient buoyage of the harbour and its
entrance.
If fishing from your boat, you will require
a licence. This can be obtained from us.
Please ring 01202 444646.
The association is non-profit making and is
funded by the major user groups of which
we are the largest. Funding is based on a
set fee for each moored craft.
The fishery operates a ‘catch and release’
policy. A bailiff operates within the
harbour.
The Association is run through a voluntary
committee who provide an excellent
service to all boat owners within the
harbour. Our thanks go to them.
Bait digging is not permitted in the
harbour.
Wildlife sensitive areas
There are a number of wildlife sensitive
areas within the harbour which are off
limits to boats. Please observe these.

A guide to moorings and dry berth facilities
NB Keys are required for access to a number of our moorings. A part refundable deposit
of £30 applies for each key issued. Please note the length restrictions of the moorings.
The waiting list will be longer for boats longer in length than 6 metres. Also please
note that all moorings carry a minimum metre charge.
Terms and Conditions
Customers will be placed on the waiting list according to the date we receive a
completed application form.
2.
You should send a cheque for £85 made payable to Bournemouth Water with your
completed application form.
3.
All payments made under this scheme are non-refundable.
4.
You may specify the mooring category where you wish to have a mooring and will
only be offered moorings that are vacant within these categories. If you do not specify
any category, you will be offered the next available mooring wherever it may be on
the Royalty.
5.
Please make sure that your vessel or intended vessel is suitable for at least one of
the mooring locations in each category specified. To help you, please refer to the
‘Mooring descriptions’ section in this leaflet.
6.
If a customer does not reply to a mooring offer, they will be placed at the bottom of
the waiting list. This condition is not negotiable.
7.
Vacancies are offered in strict rotational order, based on the date we receive your
application and having regard to the selected categories. All offers are made at the
mooring manager’s discretion.
