GREETINGS FROM THE ‘EDITOR’
The Communications Committee would like to take this
opportunity to thank one and all for their emails and personal
comments, that they are enjoying our newsletter. These words of
praise encourage us to continue on and do better. Having said all
that; we also believe that this newsletter is a vehicle for getting to
know you, our neighbors and friends. So we will continue to
encourage you to let us know what is happening, what you are
doing, what you are celebrating, what your children are
celebrating, what your grandchildren are celebrating, and if there
are great grandchildren share the photos. Any and all photos are
always appreciated. Our fantasy is to be inundated with photos,
and articles from all 288 unit owners and from those individuals
who are fortunate to rent here. Just email them to

GIVING COMMITTEE
Remembering Our Military Service People
Early December our community provided three
boxes that were filled and sent to our military
forces stationed in Afghanistan. The donation
box located in the clubhouse currently
contains soaps, shampoo, razors, tooth
brushes and tooth paste. With just a few more
donations we could fill another box and send it out before the end
of February. It would be greatly appreciated if you could drop off
small items (hard candy, gum, flavored drink packets, etc.) that
would enable us to fill a box nicely. We have received monetary
donations to cover the charges for two additional boxes and would
like to send out a fifth box during the month of March. Please
continue to give generously and know that our military continues
to represent the USA proudly and they need our continued support
and thanks for a job well done.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
As many of you know, the Chinese New Year began
on Jan. 31, 2014, is actually the year 4712 in the
Chinese calendar and is the year of the horse.
Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all
the animals to meet him on the Chinese New Year.
Twelve animals showed up and Buddha named a
year after each one. He announced that the people born in each
year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in
horse years are cheerful, skillful with money, perceptive, witty,
talented and good with their hands. Rembrandt, Harrison Ford,
Chopin and President Teddy Roosevelt were born in the year of the
horse. Our recent celebration at the Pines to acknowledge the New
Chinese Year was a great success with fantastic decorations by Teri
and her crew, good food arranged and served by Bam and his
group, enjoyable entertainment and the raffling of special Chinese
shirts made by Teri. I wonder if anyone who planned this event
was born in a year of the horse. I would think so with the special
time it was. Confucius, the great Chinese philosopher, had
something prophetic to say about various things in life. I'll
conclude with a few statements which can be relevant to life at the
Pines.
“Happiness is a way station between too little and too much”
“Marriage like a game of poker – you start with a pair and you
end up with a full house”
“Tongue must be heavy indeed, because so few people can hold
it”
“Best way to save face is to keep part of it shut”
“Love everybody – not every body”
Tom Comparato
If you have questions please contact Ann & John DiPrima or Mary
Wade.
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO Mel Katzman – March 4, Sylvia Greenberg –
March 16 and Natalie Stember – March 25, Wishing each of you a
year of happiness and joy.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL who are celebrating their birthday in

their umpteenth anniversary in March. We at PDW are wishing one
and all the very best.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to MUCHACHO, the
male patriarch Jaguar, who celebrated
th
his 20 birthday at the Palm Beach Zoo

normal lifespan for a jaguar in the wild
is 12-15 years. Muchacho is the fourth
oldest jaguar in the U.S.A. The zoo a real
fun place to take the grandkids when they visit.

PAST EVENTS
th
PDW WOMEN’S CLUB ANNUAL LUNCHEON – JAN. 11 - took place at the Holiday Inn in Highland Beach. Carol Caffrey, president opened the
event and asked us all to take a moment to remember Marion DiPalo, who actively took part in the planning of this event. In her memory and
to celebrate her contribution to the women’s club her three daughters, Lisa, Gina, and Terry joined us. This made this event very special. Edie
Katzman, a past president recited a poem in tribute to Marion titled “Life’s Highway”. In addition to Edie, three additional past presidents,
Leatrice Herold, Roz Sloane, Natalie Stember were in attendance adding to the festivities. William Stafford, a lead baritone, who performs at
Emmanuel Church, and also performs at the Delray Beach Playhouse Musical series, and is a member of the Delray Beach Chorale; entertained
us with a series of songs from Broadway shows and challenged us to sing along. The afternoon was brilliant, and a huge thanks to the
Chairperson Carol Pagano along with her staff, Doreen Graugard, Edie Katzman, Roberta Saunders, and Roz Sloane for putting forth such a

personal touch. Our catered dinner complete with assorted appetizers, entrees, fortune cookies and tea, was ably served by Brian
Hughes, Bam DiPalo, Sal Ammarati and there helpers. Members of the community won door prizes of tee shirts commemorating the
Year of the Horse. Michael Rapposelli, our DJ provided music and serenaded us. We were entertained by, comedian Ben Kurland who
