CARONDELET CATHOLIC SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT 2013 Preparing Students for a Life of Learning and Service 2013 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends of Carondelet Catholic School: As we reflect upon this past year’s accomplishments, we have many reasons to be thankful. Students are graduating from Carondelet as confident, prepared students who are going on to great college experiences and giving back to their communities. We continually hear from neighboring public and private high schools regarding the accomplishments of our graduates – including those who are excelling as National Merit scholars and Honor Society members; servant leaders helping others as well as talented musicians, writers and athletes. We are thankful for our teachers, most of who have, or are working towards, advanced degrees. Like most of our families, our teachers report they are attracted to Carondelet for the opportunity to teach in a faith-‐
based environment; the academic rigor; small class sizes; and a committed community. We are thankful for our parents and donors. Carondelet Catholic School relies on the generosity of our community to help us advance our mission. Your generous gifts of time, talent and treasure directly impact our students by helping us keep tuition affordable; maintain small class sizes; attract and retain the best teachers; and offer the highest level of academic excellence in a faith-‐based, nurturing environment. We are thankful for the generosity of our two sponsoring parishes of Christ the King and St. Thomas the Apostle. We are blessed to be part of such warm and welcoming faith communities. While we reflect upon our blessings we also look forward to our future. With your ongoing support, we hope to continue making advancements in the areas of technology and teaching methodologies as well as building improvements to both campuses. We invite you to come see for yourself the wonderful things happening at Carondelet Catholic School, thanks to donors like you. Your Giving Matters. Sue Kerr Principal Canonical Administrator Board Chair Fr. Dale Korogi Matt Voda 2013 ANNUAL REPORT SCHOOL OVERVIEW MISSION Sponsored by the Catholic parishes of Christ the King and St. Thomas the Apostle, Carondelet Catholic School is dedicated to providing a strong program that teaches Christian values, supports the education of the whole child and prepares students for a life of continuous learning and service. HISTORY Carondelet Catholic School was named after the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, the first teachers of St. Thomas the Apostle School in 1925, and Christ the King School in 1939. In 1992, the two parish schools merged into one school with two campuses. Carondelet’s Lower Campus, attached to St. Thomas the Apostle, houses grades K-‐2. The Upper Campus, attached to Christ the King, houses grades 3-‐8. Carondelet Catholic School is a special place. You see it in the faces of our students. You feel it in the enthusiasm of our faculty and staff. You hear it in the voices of our volunteers. And you experience it in the warm and welcoming embrace of our parent community. ACCREDITATION Carondelet is a Catholic elementary school accredited by the Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA). •
ENROLLMENT Carondelet enrolled approximately 420 students in kindergarten through grade 8 during the 2012-‐2013 school year. Enrollment for the 2013/2014 school year is 442 students. There are several ways to give to Carondelet Catholic School, as outlined below: VOLUNTEERING Carondelet has a dedicated volunteer community that is critical to running many school programs. From reading in the classroom and chaperoning field trips, to helping with key fundraisers and staffing special events, we ask every family to contribute in some way. ANNUAL FUND Carondelet’s Annual Fund is sponsored by our Board of Directors and gives our stakeholders an opportunity to make a tax-‐deductible, end-‐of-‐year gift to Carondelet Catholic School. 100% of the proceeds support Carondelet’s operating budget. MARATHON Carondelet’s Marathon is the school’s largest fundraiser. During the month of September, students gather pledges for various service projects organized during our “Day of Service”. This student-‐centered fundraiser teaches our children the importance of volunteerism and service to others. PARENTS A-‐GO-‐GO Parents, faculty and friends of Carondelet are invited to join us for Carondelet’s annual Go-‐Go, an evening of fun that includes a live auction and event sign-‐ups. This social event is typically held in February or March and raises funds for a special need as well as for the operating budget. HELP-‐A-‐STUDENT Carondelet’s Help-‐A-‐Student fund provides tuition assistance for parishioners of Christ the King or St. Thomas the Apostle who demonstrate financial need. Each August members of both parishes receive letters from their pastor soliciting contributions to this scholarship fund. CASH GIFTS Monetary gifts to Carondelet can be made at any time as cash, check or by a credit/debit card transaction. Gifts can be made in the school office or online at Carondelet’s school website. 2013 ANNUAL REPORT GIVING MATTERS CORPORATE MATCHING GIFTS Many corporations will match their employees’ financial gifts to non-‐profit organizations. Please check with your employer or Carondelet’s Business Office to see if your company has a matching gift program. GIFTS TO THE ENDOWMENT FUND Gifts to the Carondelet Catholic School Endowment Fund provide enduring support for Carondelet’s educational programs and facilities by releasing a reliable flow of funds to the operating budget. The primary investment objective of the endowment is to grow assets while disbursing funds to Carondelet and assuming appropriate levels of risk. SECURITIES A gift of securities, stocks or bonds entitles givers to an income tax deduction; a gift of appreciated securities may also reduce capital gains tax liability to the donor. BEQUESTS Including Carondelet Catholic School in your estate planning is a simple way to ensure your giving will continue for future generations. TAX BENEFITS Your donations to Carondelet Catholic School qualify as charitable deductions for federal tax purposes and may help reduce tax liability. Please check with your financial advisor for tax specific questions/information.
