SURFERS PARADISE
BY ANNIE LYON
Imagine enjoying kilometres of unspoiled coastline
without another soul in sight or taking a photo of
the Sydney Harbour Bridge without hundreds
of strangers’ heads obscuring your view. These
are just some of the perks of off-peak travel!
The ‘off peak’ or ‘low season’ differs from place
to place but in Australia it generally refers to
those dates outside of school holidays and in
most parts of the country, the cooler months of
April to September. Before you turn your nose up
at the thought of a holiday that doesn’t involve your
bikini, let us remind you that the perks of travelling
in winter far outweigh the absence of a holiday glow.
THE PERKS OF OFF PEAK

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER
The best thing about winter in Australia is that in
some places, like Queensland, Western Australia
and the Northern Territory, temperatures rarely dip
below zero and it is usually pretty dry. For example
the Gold Coast is lucky enough to experience an
average of 300 days of sunshine per year! In the
regions where it does get chilly, like Tasmania, winter
is actually a beautiful time to visit. For example, the
sight of Cradle Mountain in Tasmania’s Central
Highlands dusted with snow is mesmerising and
entirely worth the cold.

WHERE TO STAY
Ramada Singapore at Zhongshan Park and Days Hotel Singapore at
Zhongshan Park are located side-by-side on Balestier Road, the heart of
Singapore’s heritage and foodie haven. The hotels are separated by Zhongshan
Park, a parkland that features modern Chinese architecture and beautifully
landscaped gardens that provide a little piece of paradise away from the hustle
and bustle of the city. Both hotels feature stylish and contemporary rooms
with large bay windows that let in plenty of natural light and have sweeping
views of the city and Zhongshan Park. The outdoor swimming pool and large
Ramada Singapore
pool deck at Ramada Singapore is the ideal place to unwind after a day of
exploring the city.
WHERE TO EAT
Flavours at Zhongshan Park showcases the melting pot of cultures that
make up Singapore, with a delicious variety of menu options including both
Asian and Western cuisine. The Heritage Lounge Bar is the perfect place to
start off the night with a pre-dinner cocktail.
21 on Rajah is one of the region’s most popular Halal certified restaurants
and was recently voted in Singapore’s Top 10 buffet restaurants for the
country’s 50 years of independence celebrations. The spacious family-
friendly restaurant serves lunch and dinner featuring fresh seafood on ice

and live cooking stations.
The lively Whampao Markets is a popular cheap eats option for locals. As
Balestier Road is famous for its Hainanese chicken rice, this is a must. Other
popular dishes include fried hokkein noodles and rojak, a crunchy fruit and
vegetable salad dish that combines sweet, salty, sour and spicy flavours.
WHERE TO SHOP
Orchard Road is the ultimate shopping experience with more than 500 brands,
across 22 shopping malls and six department stores. The street is always
buzzing thanks to regular sales, fashion shows and Pedestrian Night, which
creates a vibrant atmosphere every Saturday. Velocity@Novena located above
the Novena MRT is within walking distance of Ramada and Days Hotels
Singapore and features a huge range of brands and specialty shops.
Gardens by the Bay
EXPERIENCES
Balestier Road is a true taste of Singapore’s fascinating history, dating back 180
years when the country was a British trading post. The Balestier Heritage Trail
takes visitors on a journey past traditional shop houses filled with sweet and
savoury treats, while discovering stories about the key moments of the
1911 Chinese Revolution that took place here. Gardens by the Bay is a
short drive from the hotels and showcases three waterfront gardens on
100 hectares in the middle of the city. The nightly Garden Rhapsody
show is a beautiful spectacle of colourful lights and music not to be
missed. Take a day trip to Sentosa Island by cable car or monorail,
which is home to Universal Studios and a variety of other fun family
activities.

SYDNEY
Nothing goes hand-inhand quite like a juicy
gourmet burger and a
thirst-quenching locallybrewed beer! Our capital
cities Brisbane, Sydney and
Melbourne boast a number
of quirky establishments
with a great selection of
craft beer and homemade
burgers on the menu. We’ve
selected some of the best
near your WorldMark
South Pacific Club by
Wyndham properties.
MARY’S
Located in the heart of Sydney’s ‘it’ suburb, Newtown,
Mary’s is arguably the best burger joint around.
Spanning two levels, there’s plenty of room to spread
out and enjoy a bottle of craft beer (we suggest the
Mountain Goat) with a signature Mary’s Burger (the
‘Shroom was our favourite). Those who are pressed
for time, rest assured, because the good news is that
the boys behind Mary’s have opened an ‘on the run’
version of their popular burger bar in Castlereagh St in
the CBD. Finger-lickin’ goodness to go!

CHUR
Notorious for their insanely delicious burgers and
truly unique brews, Chur Burger will leave you
absolutely speechless. Two Brisbane-based prolific
street artists, Treazy and Drapl, are the ones you can
thank for the establishment’s interior design. The
diverse, innovative menu includes a range of burgers
from the classic beef and pickle, to more adventurous
options such as the crispy pork belly burger with
chilli caramel, slaw and aioli. Vegetarians will love the
spiced chickpea fritter burger with grated beetroot and
honey labne.

GREASER BAR
Tucked away behind one of the most popular streets in
Fortitude Valley, this typically American underground
dive bar is your next destination for an adventurous
night full of bluesy rock’n’roll vibes and ridiculously
good tasting burgers. Combining vintage art, crimped
fries and a too-long-to-list selection of unique local crafts
and American beers, Greaser Bar will be the highlight
of your trendy night out. We recommend the Tap Dog
on tap and the classic cheeseburger with a side of extracheesy fries!

It is, in a word, effective.”
