MISIÓN PARROQUIAL
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic
parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church
of the Resurrection, Fontana and the parish of St. Thomas More,
Rialto. We seek to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families
and people, so that they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and
in the life to come. We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic
Christian Stewardship, the Christian education of our youth and adults
through Resurrection Academy and other programs, outreach to the
poor and needy, and the celebration of the sacraments, especially the
Holy Eucharist.

ST. JOHN XXIII COAT OF ARMS (2)
This weekend we continue our interpretation of the
coat of arms of St. John XXIII. As you can see, behind the red
escutcheon which forms the shield on which the main element
of the coat of arm is displayed, are the Keys of Peter (Mt
16:19). Papal coats of arms are traditionally shown with an
image of the papal tiara and the keys of Peter as an external
ornament of the escutcheon. These two crossed keys of Saint
Peter are used as a symbol of the papacy and appear on papal
documents, buildings and insignia. The two keys are in silver
and gold colors and represent the power to bind and to loose on
earth (silver) and in heaven (gold). The gold key signifies that
the power reaches to heaven and the silver key that it extends to
all the faithful on earth. The interlacing indicates the linking
between the two aspects of the power, and the arrangement with
the handles of the keys at the base symbolizes that the power is
in the hands of the pope the crossed keys.
There is below the tiara, the Lion of St. Mark which
represents the evangelist Mark. It is a typical Christian iconography which is associated with Mark as a function of the
words with which he began his Gospel with reference to John
the Baptist: "The voice of the one who cries in the wilderness:
"Prepare you the way of the Lord, make straight his paths” (Mk
1:1–3). It symbolizes the majesty and power of the Evangelist's
word, the wings symbolize the spiritual elevation, the halo is
the traditional Christian symbol of holiness/religious piety,
while the book expresses the concepts of wisdom and peace.
At the Center below the lion is the symbol of castle.
The castle is a symbol of enclosure, of the walled and defended
city. It is also the symbol of spiritual power, vigil, Grandeur,
nobility or search for divine grace.
In between the castle are two fleurs-de-lis. In French
fleur means flower and lis means lily, that is, “lily flower.” The
two lily flowers are a medieval emblem in France representing
the lily as a symbol of purity. They may also be seen as honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary and the French heritage of the area. History tells us that in 1944, during World War II, Pope
Pius XII named St. John XXIII the Apostolic Nuncio to Paris,
France. In 1953, he was named the Patriarch of Venice, and,
accordingly, raised to the rank of cardinal. As a sign of his esteem, President Vincent Auriol of France claimed the ancient
privilege possessed by French monarchs and bestowed the red
hat on the now-Cardinal Roncalli at a ceremony in the Elysee
Palace.
Because coat of arms is a design unique to the individual owner, we do not have what the totality meant to Pope John
XXIII. All we do know is that he took the tiara and two keys
belonging to the Church, used the Roncalli family's coat of
arms of castle with the addition of the fleurs de lis chief of Venice for the Patriarch of Venice. In the brief five years he served
as Pope, he worked a revolution, returning the papal ministry
from medieval princeling to good shepherd; and from castle
lord to the real meaning of pontifex, i.e. ”bridge builder.”

Dear Parish Family of St. John XXIII,
Praised be Jesus Christ!
I am very grateful for each one of you as I share this letter
with you. Support for my vocation, especially in its beginning process, is truly a blessing for me as I discern with
the Carmelite
Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los
Angeles. Since August 2013, I have begun Candidacy, the
first step in the ten years of initial formation with our
Sisters. It includes following their simple lifestyle of prayer and introduction
to their Apostolates of Education, Retreat Work, and Health Care. I am currently assigned working in our Skilled Nursing Facility, Santa Teresita and volunteering at Hayden Child Care Center. With each month of living and learning
more about religious life, I desire to pursue my vocation with the Carmelite
Sisters even more. However, they see it fit that this Summer I return home with
you all in Rialto for at least a year, in order to gain more experience that is
strongly needed in their Apostolic Work. To prepare for a lifelong vocation
with them, I plan to study Child Development and Education, while staying in
close contact with them for discernment. Afterwards, I will resume the Carmelite formation program of the Sisters. I ask your continued prayers for me as I
transition and learn to follow the Lord even more in this turn of events. Knowing all of you are supporting me, whether monetarily or spiritually is helping
me persevere and ultimately listen to whatever our Lord asks me. Be assured
that you are in my thoughts and prayers and I can’t wait to see all your joyful
faces again this summer.
Yours in Christ,
Lily Galley
Registration for all Catechetical Classes in the
Rialto Center begins on Sunday, June 15th and
Sunday June 22nd from 9am
to 1pm. Please call the office for further details

LIFE IN THE TRINITY...The name of the Trinity is, without a doubt,
the most familiar sacred name to us. We speak it every time we make
the sign of the cross, and it forms the heart of our Creed. Trinity Sunday is a good day, however, to stop and reflect on the unique role of
each of the three persons we name so often in the Trinity and in our
own lives. When we celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday, we come together as the Body of Christ through our baptism, and through the
power of the Holy Spirit we offer the whole prayer of the Mass to God
the Father. This presence of the Trinity does not stop when we leave
church on Sunday. We are—always and everywhere—members of the
Body, and every thing we do as members of that Body is empowered
by the Holy Spirit, all of it offered to the glory of our loving Father.
Take a moment each day this week to reflect on how the persons of the
Trinity were present to you during the day, and how other people came
to see the presence of the Trinity in your witness to the Good News.
