It will feature in/outdoor art and installations on display; live performance in the form of sound art, theater, and dance; workshops; vendors; food trucks; live art; and more. City of Night St. Louis will also have efforts year round to educate, facilitate, and create platforms for artists and entrepreneurs. The festival will be held in venues around the city starting Thursday August 14th and continuing through Saturday August 16th with the height of the festivities taking place at the Historic Lemp Brewery. A closing picnic will take place at Tower Grove Park on Sunday the 17th. The festival will begin each day early in the afternoon and conclude late in the evening. After Parties and shows will held at multiple venues around the city starting at 10pm on Saturday and will showcase a wide variety of artists and local businesses in different neighborhoods. The target audience is everyone. We are working hard to create an event that is open and welcoming to all. Including, but not limited to: Artists and Vendors (to connect and create crossover/ audience share), and the general public of all ages/ gender/ sexual orientation/ religious affiliation/ race/ families/ youth. We feel there aren't enough accessible activities for families (especially lower income families) in the city and we would like to change that. There will be workshops by performers and community groups throughout the day for all to enjoy or participate in. Such as hula hoop workshops, Saint Louis history demos, and craft tables for all ages. There will also be performances and Art on display. Funds raised will be used to pay rent for the Lemp Brewery, pay for insurance and permits, pay artist and performers, rent generators, rent portable bathrooms, electricity, pay maintenance, pay for marketing/ posters/ handbills, pay for portable walls for art to be hung (to maintain the historic integrity of the Lemp's indoor walls), and various other supplies for ambiance such as lights, projectors, amps, etc. City of Night St. Louis came to be after Blaire Hamilton (Executive/ Creative Director) attended City of Night Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. Buffalo is truly a sister city for St. Louis; with a similar history and economic decline, followed by the exciting creative and entrepreneur push we are currently in. We find that it is important to bring attention to what is happening not only to our city and state, but to also bring national attention to St. Louis. What better way to do this than to team up with cities in similar innovative times. Like City Of Night Buffalo, City of Night St. Louis signifies the darkness that Saint Louis and other similar places have experienced in the late 20th century, and where we're going, not only here but regionally, nationally, and internationally. Saint Louis is evolving rapidly, awakening from its slumber, but some shadows remain. We seek to investigate the CITY of NIGHT and its symbolic or literal meanings. We are creative place-makers, rejuvenating the forgotten and threatened with the power of art. What will we do with the dawn? #2 #3 #3#2 Spielmobile #3 by Hey! My name is Tara and I am a board-game-loving visual artist. I began collecting games as a child, and I recently decided that I wanted to share my collection with other people that love to play. So, I started Spielhaus, a board game rental business and blog from my home. “Spielhaus ” is German for play house, which is what I have! Spielhaus launched with a game night exhibtion at Fifty09 Gallery earlier this year, and it was a huge success! But I still need to get word out about this crazy little thing I have, which is where Spielmobile comes into play. Spielmobile (play mobile) will be a roving cart version of Spielhaus, which will pop up at parks, fairs, events, etc., and offer people the chance to get games on the go. Its design also has an integrated table to play games on the cart for those that don’t want to rent but still want to play. Games are stored in baskets on the cart, so that they are visible and interchangable. Board game pieces are also uniquely organized and displayed in containers on the cart for an interesting visual. I may even sell unique little items from repurposed games. I have totally funded my entire board game collection out -of-pocket, and I’m a poor girl with a lot of student loan debt. Funds from Sloup will enable me to build this cart so that I can share my games with people across the city. I charge a very small amount for rental because I am not aiming to profit from this, but rather to simply spread the love! Check out my in-process design below, and please visit my blog: speilhausstl.wordpress.com to get more information, or visit my website at taramorton.com to verify that I am a somewhat legitimate artist that will use these funds wisely!! Please help fund my dream! #4 #4 Press Restoration for Central Print’s Open Studio Program Central Print is a new not-for-profit with a mission to promote the art of printmaking by providing art workshops, classes and programs for people of all ages. Central Print is seeking funding to restore a press to start an Open Studio program in the Old North neighborhood. Restoration Our first donated press is a Vandercook 215 proof press. This press will be restored and made available for public use through the Open Studio program. We have raised funds for cleaning the press and need additional funds to purchase replacement parts such as rubber rollers and any other missing hardware. Just a few of the costs associated with the preservation of the press include rubber rollers, tools, steel wool, gloves, wire brushes, solvents, Naval Jelly, respirators, grease, heavy motor oil, 3 in 1 oil, drop cloth, ink knives, misc. parts and hardware. Total estimated cost: $750 - $1,000 Volunteers will work on the restoration and once complete the press will be available for making prints by appointment. Central Print will have a public studio space for use for individually driven printmaking projects. Hand tools and equipment will be made available for use in the studio. Participants will need to bring their own printmaking supplies. To qualify for use of the press, participants must complete one five session workshop and pass a test annually to prove competency and safety in using the equipment. If you are interested in volunteering to help preserve this historic printing press while learning the valuable skills necessary for restoring the Vandercook send us a message at facebook.com/centralprintstudios and we will contact you when the project begins mid-July. Vote for press restoration tonight and you will give Central Print’s Open Studio program the funding it needs to make the restoration of the Vandercook 215 proof press possible. • Restoration will make this donated press the first available for Open Studio use at Central Print • Grant will be used to buy parts necessary to make the press functional • Restoration will be completed by volunteers #5 #5 -SntLu,Mu ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ #6 #6 ART630: Celebrating Original St. Louis Fine Art Concept Statement: ART630 is a media resource which celebrates high quality locally produced fine art and presents this art to affluent households in the St. Louis area. The Brand: 630’ is the height and width of the Gateway Arch. The name is original and memorable with a subtle reference to art in St. Louis yet intentionally created without the overused Gateway Arch name or symbol. ART630 becomes a brand name which will be remembered as a distinct name over the long term. The Premise: 1. There are wonderful (!!) local artists producing very high quality fine art in St. Louis. This original art receives limited exposure to the broad St. Louis community. 2. There is a strong commitment to support the arts within the business and philanthropic community. 3. Increasing exposure of this high quality fine art to high income households raises awareness, improves the collective well-being of our community, and leads to a stronger, more supportive art community. 4. Sponsors of Art630 will gain exposure to affluent, opinion leader households with disposal income in an environment associated with high quality art produced locally. The Product: What is Art630? ART630 is launching as a high quality, perfect-bound format, print publication highlighting the best fine artists, galleries and collectors in the community. Producing a print product is a strategic decision based on the desire to deliver an experience which will remain visible in homes of local art collectors, increasing longterm exposure for artists and sponsors. Design/Content: The guiding principle for the publication design is to deliver a premium quality presentation which homeowners are proud to have on display in their living rooms. Large, high resolution images of artwork will be prominent with an "art as hero" mentality. "Art as hero" will be the guiding principle, with several fine artists featured in each issue. Artist features will include full page art images as well as content explaining the art and introducing the artist. Features include highlighting local galleries and interviews with prominent members of the local art ecosystem (gallery owners, philanthropists, collectors, curators, critics, educators, corporate collections.) Gallery listings and other resources will be included as an additional value to the consumer, making Art630 an invaluable resource for our art community and collectors. Distribution: ART630 will be distributed via USPS from a local printer direct to the highest income homes in the St. Louis metro region. Additional distribution may be provided in highly selective high-end locations consistent with the goal of reaching a select target of consumers. Initial circulation will reach 15,000 targeted affluent households per quarter. Distribution itself will be the primary marketing vehicle plus digital social media engagement. Additional awareness will be generated from PR with local media. Plus, The ART630 Launch Party should be a social highlight of the year! Funding: It is a fundamental philosophy of Art630 that artists will NOT be charged a fee to be included in the publication. If honored to be selected by STLSLOUP, not only will the funds will be used to help complete the design and initial launch of the Art630 publication, but the recognition will help demonstrate the commitment of our art community to this effort. Thank you!
