Annual Catholic Appeal
Our sincere thanks to everyone who has made a pledge. We
have received $10,389.90 in pledges. Our parish goal this year
is $37,584.00. Only 62 parishioners/households have made a
pledge. We need everyone to help. Your generosity is crucial,
all gifts, great or small, will aid us. It is important to remember
that once our parish reaches its target goal, we will receive
100% of all the funds raised over our goal. If you have not
already had the opportunity to share your gifts with this year’s
Annual Catholic Appeal, please consider making a pledge or
contribute online at: www.rcdobdonate.org.

adult learners, covers a different topic each week. For example, The Emerging Role of the Laity; Jesus: His Ministry; and

Join the Food Pantry Summer Fun Challenge!
We are launching our 4th annual Summer Fundraising Challenge for the Helping Hands Food Pantry. The fundraiser will
run from June 1st through September 8th.
The Summer Fun Challenge is a "Do-It-Yourself" Fundraising
event... you decide what type of event you'd like to run and
graciously donate the proceeds to the Food Pantry. Events can
be as simple as a lemonade stand or as elaborate as hosting a
BBQ in the park for all your friends and asking them to contribute the cost of their meal.
We are very grateful to all the families that have organized
fundraisers in the past and hope ALL our parishioners can participate this year. Every donation is worthwhile no matter its
size. Participation is the key! All the donations add up!
Please collect more information at the back of the church or at
the Rectory. Or email [email protected] or
[email protected] for more information. We are happy to
help. Enjoy your event!
Please make all checks out to

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (C)
2 Sm 12:7–10, 13 / Gal 2:16, 19–21
Lk 7:36—8:3 or 7:36–50
If today’s media circus had been alive and well in firstcentury Palestine, it would have pounced on the events in
today’s gospel reading. You can imagine the headlines:
“Mystery Woman Crashes Elegant Dinner; Host Mortified.”
Blogs would light up with sordid details of the woman’s sinful past. Simon the Pharisee would visit talk shows expressing shock and threatening a lawsuit. The woman would be
offered her own reality show: “Real Sinners of the Mediterranean.” Of course, after two days of nonstop coverage, the
whole event would be forgotten.
For Jesus, none of this drama mattered. His focus was
solely on this woman who, though uninvited, made her way
to him and publicly demonstrated her great repentance. In
spite of Simon’s protests and, most likely, the rest of the attendees’ shock, Jesus gave her his full attention, and most
important, his forgiveness. No gossip, no dramatic expelling
of the woman, no show of great power. Just a quiet and humble exchange between Jesus and a repentant sinner.
And so it can be for us, especially in the sacrament of
reconciliation. Jesus waits with a calm and compassionate
heart for our sincere repentance. We need only to name our
sin, as the woman did, and ask forgiveness. No matter what
other voices complain against us, no matter how grave our
sin, no matter how long it has been—Jesus’ attention is on us
and us alone. No media circus, no expert analysis, no dredging up everything bad we’ve ever done. Just an honest, humble encounter between us and the Lord.
Listen. Can you hear Jesus say, “Your sins are forgiven?”
