Metrorail reached Rosslyn in the late 1970s, adding another level of
meaning to “gateway”, and cementing the area as a transportation hub.
Today, Rosslyn is undergoing a second boom, with new mixed-use
developments and a vibrant, urban feel driving increases in both daytime
and residential populations.

Rosslyn serves as a proud gateway into Arlington and the Commonwealth
of Virginia. This gateway status dates back to the colonial era when
Awbrey’s Ferry transported passengers across the Potomac from Georgetown. The community that developed along the shore took its name from
Ross Lynn, a local farm, and by 1843 the Aqueduct Bridge replaced the
ferry connecting the area to D.C. Key Bridge replaced it in 1929.
