Adult Day Services - Easter Seals Crossroads
Disability Services. Our emphasis is on ability.
Dear Friends,
The words thank you are not enough to convey our gratitude to the many people
who work tirelessly to support the work done at Easter Seals Crossroads. As the
economy has taken its toll in central Indiana, we appreciate every dollar contributed
toward the work of our mission. Equally appreciated are the thousands of hours that
our volunteers have devoted to supporting our programs.
While the health of the economy has declined, the demand for our services has not.
In fact, during periods of economic hardship, we generally see an increase in the number
of persons and families needing our services. This past year, Easter Seals Crossroads
served over 5,000 individuals, an increase of 13% over the previous year. We are proud
of the fact that we have done this at a time when reimbursements and some traditional
sources of funding have decreased.
Next year looks to be equally challenging, yet we are excited. New technologies are
being implemented that improve the lives of our consumers. Other technologies will
help us improve the way we communicate with consumers, volunteers and donors.
The support of our volunteers and contributors will be even more vital in 2011. Only
through your continued support and partnership can we hope to meet the needs of
the persons we exist to serve. Again, from everyone at Easter Seals Crossroads and
from each of our consumers, let me say thank you for helping us emphasize ability.
Sincerely,
James J. Vento

Children’s Medical Rehabilitation Services
As a First Steps provider of early intervention services, we serve any family with a child aged birth to three years
with a diagnosed disability, a developmental delay or biologically at risk of a developmental delay.
Physical therapy helps children build muscle strength, develop mobility, improve coordination and improve
balance skills. Therapists evaluate a child’s motor ability and then devise a plan to develop motor skills that are
important for physical development. We also assist children in obtaining adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs,
walkers, standers, gait trainers and orthotics.
Occupational therapy helps children develop skills to overcome sensory, motor and perceptual problems that
affect their daily lives. Our occupational therapists develop and help parents implement exercises and therapeutic
activities such as those related to feeding, self-care, fine motor and visual motor skills.
Speech-language therapy focuses on improving a child’s ability to communicate through receptive and expressive
language skill development. We evaluate a child’s abilities and develop a plan to promote communication.
Augmentative and alternative communication provides technology and communication devices to children
with limited verbal communication.
Our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinic (PM&R) run by Chuck Dietzen, M.D., specializes in treatments
that ease the discomfort that individuals experience from musculoskeletal, cardiovascular or pulmonary
limitations.
"My son looks forward to his occupational therapy appointments because they are ‘fun’ and exciting.
His therapists are so patient and kind; I wish we had learned about Easter Seals Crossroads sooner."
Children’s Medical Rehabilitation Services
Through physical, occupational and speech-language therapies, our staff of licensed, experienced therapists help
children with special needs and their families experience the greatest level of growth and independence possible.

Children’s Enrichment and Respite Services
Our enrichment programs respond to the growing needs for services presented by children and adolescents
within our community. Our enrichment programs include:
• Summer camp programs (CampAbility, Camp R.O.C.K.S! and Lose the Training Wheels)
• Special needs groups and clubs (life skills, social skills and handwriting)
Respite Services
Our respite program provides rest and relaxation for family members and primary caregivers of individuals with
special needs or disabilities. Respite care enhances personal and family health by providing necessary physical
care and recreational activities while offering parents and caregivers a well-deserved break.
The respite program is designed to serve families in several ways. We offer Parents’ Night Out, One-on-One
Respite Care, Teen Night Out and our adult program CHEER. Additionally, we offer ParentCare Services, which
is an innovative concept that extends beyond the care of individuals. With ParentCare Services, our family
members are offered opportunities to enjoy recreational or leisure activities while their loved ones are
participating in our respite events.
"My husband and I had the chance to reconnect on our night out. We had not gone out alone
without our child with special needs in over three years. Respite Services is a wonderful program!"

Adult Medical Rehabilitation Services
Physical therapy evaluates and treats movement disorders for adults with neurological, orthopedic and
developmental impairments. We help people achieve their goals for optimal functioning and independence.
We offer functional capacity evaluations, home modification evaluations and occupational health services.
Occupational therapy helps adults improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working
environments through neuromuscular re-education, fine motor skill development, compensatory strategies
and adaptive equipment training. We offer driver evaluation and training, in-home low vision therapy and
a wheelchair seating and positioning clinic.
Speech-language pathologists assess and treat speech articulation deficits and receptive/expressive language
disorders. Augmentative and alternative communication provides specialized technology and communication
devices to individuals with limited verbal communication.
Our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinic (PM&R) run by Chuck Dietzen, M.D., specializes in treatments that
ease the discomfort that individuals experience from musculoskeletal, cardiovascular or pulmonary limitations.
Adult Day Services
Our Adult Day Services is open to adults 18 years and older who wish to maintain their independence but
require assistance and supervision due to their physical, cognitive and/or psychosocial impairments. The
program is a daytime, center-based medical model of care designed to enhance quality of life for its participants.
"We appreciated the thoroughness and expertise of the Augmentative Communication
staff. Our family felt comfortable and confident in our services at Easter Seals Crossroads."
Adult Medical Rehabilitation Services
Our skilled team of medical rehabilitation specialists work together to help adults achieve the highest level of
independence possible.

In addition, we can provide potential employers with pre-screened, qualified employment candidates dedicated
to pursuing long-term careers. We are a leader in disability services and we offer support through on-the-job
