“Our
Goal is to Help You Enjoy Your Golf More”
Tips From The Pro
Short Game Practice Strategy
I recently came across an old article by Hale Irwin titled “My Short
Game Test”. He had five different shots that he called skill shots and
stroke savers. These are the shots that can be the difference between
saving par and making double bogey. What I find interesting is that I
rarely see the average golfer practice these shots and when they do
practice them they mostly struggle. Here are the five:
•
•
•
•
•
Pitch and Run
Soft Lob
Long Running Chip
High Bunker Shot
Long Putt
The next time you are out make it a point to try these five shots and if
you feel you need help...give me a call.
Best wishes for your success!

2014 Junior Academy Golf Program
Junior Golf Academy takes great pride in having many great golfers as well as having juniors with great
character and values. Congratulations to Miles Ruff for being chosen as one of the 20 Cherokee County
high school students to Teen Leadership Cherokee. The program, sponsored by the Cherokee County
Chamber of Commerce, is designed to "develop the knowledge and leadership skills of young people in
Cherokee County so they may confidently become our leaders of tomorrow," the Chamber said in a
news release. Over the next three months, Miles will learn about community involvement, economic
and educational responsibility, personal development and team building. This is a very big honor and
we are proud of you Miles!
Sixes Elementary recently had a Science Day to learn interesting, fun, facts about science.
The
students were in for a surprise when high school students were demonstrating some of the
experiments. The high school students were selected from a Woodstock High School physics class.
Thank you Joe Burnett, Alex Burgess, and Ridge Liggin for your participation in Science Day at Sixes
Elementary and for being such wonderful role models for the elementary kids!
BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy is currently working with The Goshen Valley Boys Ranch and Must
Ministries regarding volunteer opportunities. We want to give back to the community in which we live.
We are looking forward to making a difference in 2014!

You may deem your ball unplayable at any place on the course, except when the ball is in a
water hazard. It is highly unlikely that you would ever declare your ball unplayable on a
putting green

LGA News
BRRR! It has been too cold for golf for most of February. Hopefully warmer temps will be here soon and the
LGA Board headed by President Jean Landmesser is busy planning events for the 2014 season. Please go to
our website: www.bmaclga.com for a schedule.
Evites for our Girls Night Out and upcoming tournaments are sent about ten days ahead so it is so important
that we have your correct email address. Contact Jan Small at [email protected] if there is a chance we
do not have your most current information. We do not want anyone to miss out on the fun! If you are new
to BridgeMill or just ready to play some golf with a great group of ladies, please check out our website
where there is a link to participation forms. Contact Char Bailey at [email protected] for additional
information about the LGA.
We have had a sheet in the ladies locker room this past year to list a question regarding a golf rule that they
may not be familiar with. Becky Royer and Molly Maher decided on a few situations that come up during play
on a fairly regular basis that might need clarification for the less experienced golfers.
1.You are playing hole #2 at BridgeMill. When hitting over the water from the fairway side: if your ball
hits over the water and even clears the yellow hazard line on the other side BUT then rolls back into the
water, you cannot hit from the side nearer the green. You have to replay the shot from where you previously hit or drop it on a line back (a far as you want to) keeping the spot where it did enter the hazard
between you and the hole (rule 26-1b)
2.The correct way to mark your ball on the green: marking behind your ball on the green always seems
to work best, but mostly we need to mark it the same way each time just to be consistent.
3.The last item we wanted to bring up is making sure you know which ball is yours. Playing with a
uniquely marked ball is very important and always check it before you hit to avoid a penalty by hitting
the wrong ball. What a shame to do a beautiful chip onto the green just to find out it was not your ball.

Tip from the Pros . . . . .
Top 10 Reasons to Play Tennis
(adapted from RSI Magazine)
Tennis is the Sport for a Lifetime
There’s no other sport you can play throughout your life from youth to senior
that gives you the physical, mental, emotional and social benefits that tennis
gives you.
Tennis Can Be Anything You Want It To Be
Looking for competition, social play, team camaraderie, a good workout, time
with family or friends, tournaments and national championships? Tennis has
all of that and more. The sport can be anything you want or need it to be.
Tennis Helps You Live Longer
Tennis is one of the most healthful activities in which you can participate delivering overall physical, mental and emotional gains.
Tennis Develops Your Mind
Tennis requires alertness, tactical thinking, and problem solving which promotes a lifetime of continued development of the brain.
Tennis Develops Your Body
The constant movement and action in tennis will burn calories, build muscle,
increase bone strength, improve flexibility, fine-tune coordination and enhance
overall health and fitness.
Tennis Is A Family Sport
No matter the age, gender, ethnicity, ability level or fitness level, tennis is perfect for families to play together. Few sports can offer the opportunities for
families that tennis can.
Tennis Teaches Life Lessons
Participants, particularly youth, develop a work ethic, learn sportsmanship,
responsibility, manage mistakes, enhance discipline, learn to compete, cope
with pressure and adversity, develop healthy habits, learn teamwork and
much more.
Tennis Makes For A Happier Life
Tennis engages your mind and body at the same time, unlike a typical
workout at a gym. Because tennis players are more confident, healthier, less
stressed and more socially interactive, they’re just plain happier.
Tennis Is Social
On court and off, you’re guaranteed to make friends through tennis. The
sport encourages interaction, communication, and lots of fun. Plus, it’s great
for making business connections, too.
Tennis Is Fun
At every level of the game and at every age from 10 & under tennis through
super-senior leagues, players site “FUN” as one of the main reasons to play
tennis
Take the opportunity at BridgeMill Athletic Club to join in the “FUN” of tennis.
We have private, semi-private and small group instruction available for adults
and juniors. League (team) play is available for Sports and Golf members.
Check us out today and don’t miss your opportunity for “FUN” right here in
the community.

required to pay the $10 court fee.

Service League
Spring is right around the corner and soon the flowers will be blooming, birds will be
singing, our children will be outside and the days will be getting longer. We want to
thank Tammy Jensen, owner-operator of Stunning Ladies, LLC for her expertise on Self
Defense that was discussed at our February meeting. We learned a great deal of
community and personal safety information as well as self- defense techniques.
Applications for the Lexine Harper Memorial Scholarship are now being accepted. This
scholarship is based on service to the community and is available to graduating High
School Seniors. Please visit our website at bssl.org to download an application then mail
completed application to BSSL, 3760 Sixes Road, Suite 126, Box 185, Canton 30114.
Deadline for completed applications is April 1, 2014.
Our SCAT items for March are glue sticks, white school glue, wooden pencils and snacks such as pretzels,
crackers with (no peanut butter please), graham crackers, and teddy grahams.
If you are new to the area and would like more information about the Bridge Mill Sixes League visit our website at
www.bssl.org or contact President Ruth Clark at 678-493-8943 or at [email protected].
Mark your calendars now: the next meeting is scheduled for March 20th at 7:00pm at the Terrace.

BridgeMill Community Association
The Association held its Annual Meeting on January 27th at Liberty Elementary School. Association members
elected Brian Duncan, Johnny Rich, and Susan Rubin to serve two-year terms on the Board of Directors. Susan is now serving her second term on the Board. Congratulations to the new Board! Thank you to those
who participated in the election process and to the Election Committee who volunteered their time and
efforts. Jay Patouillet’s term expired and he left the Board after serving a total of 6 years. He will certainly be
missed and we are appreciative of all he has done to make BridgeMill the community we all love. A special
thanks goes out to Dave Meredith whose term also expired. Dave served on the Board for 4 years and also
contributed immensely and he too will be missed!
The Association continues to receive complaints about on-street parking and we ask that our residents and
visitors make every effort to park on the driveway. An accident occurred on Downing Creek Trail in February
due to a parked car impeding sight lines of visibility. Although no one was hurt, the accident could have
been avoided. If a parked vehicle is impeding sight lines for oncoming traffic, please contact the sheriff’s
department and they will ticket the vehicle. The majority of our streets are county owned and maintained
and are the responsibility of the county.
Is your mailbox rusted, dented, missing numbers, and the door is twisted and hanging or even missing?
Don’t wait for the HOA to send you a violation notice! Contact the property manager and make plans to
purchase a replacement. Just as our homes need upkeep and maintenance, the mailboxes and posts in
BridgeMill also need maintenance. Deteriorated mailboxes are an eyesore and bring down the overall
appearance of the neighborhood. Even the little things owners can do to spruce up their property, such as
putting down fresh pine straw or mulch and replacing a rusted, leaning mailbox does a lot for the “look” of
our neighborhood.
We are noticing an abundance of investment owned properties in BridgeMill. This was one of the “hot” topics
at the annual meeting. Owners are legally responsible for the upkeep and maintenance and if you are an
investment owner, you should be regularly monitoring your property and making sure the tenant is
maintaining the yard to the same community-standard as owner occupied properties. Shrubs and bushes
need to be trimmed; lawns need edging and cut regularly; trash cans stored out of sight; freebie newspapers
picked up, etc. The Association does exercise its right of “self help and abatement” and will send a lawn
service out and maintain the yard and in some cases, removes debris in an effort to keep the neighborhood
looking its best. The property owner gets the invoice for that service (and is usually not very happy)! Do your
part and maintain the exterior of your home and property.
