Lunds character today
Why a plan?
The expansion affect not only the university but also the city and region
ESS
MAX-laboratory
will be built in Lund
a multi-scientific research facility
based on the world's most powerful
neutron source, estimated to be in full
operation in 2025
A very powerful synchrotron radiation source,
used in national and international research. In
full operation in 2016
New tramway estimated to
be in full operation in 2018
But also...
To achieve a common approach for the
physical environment
Strengthen collaboration within the
university
Strengthen what we already have,
combining old with new
The plan is also an information of all
ideas and planned projects that we worked
on the last few years, maybe not known to
all
How did we accomplish this project?!
We began the project in 2010 with workshops involving
the city, property owners, the Region, students, faculty
members and a some persons from the head of the
university.
Together we developed a basis for an assignment to two
different architect firms.

The 6 strategies
Campus as an
integrated part of the
city
Develop through a mix of
function.
Concentration and
intimacy
Increase integration with the
city by concentrating to
strategic locations to create
urbanity
Focus on the main
street-Kunskapstråket
Develop nodes to
meeting places
Concentrate all new buildings
and activities to the
mainstreet for increased flow
All sites along the
Kunskapstråket can not be
active. Choose a few and
activate these to urban
spaces
A green identity
Use greenery as urban
elements
The green existing
character is an important
part of the academic
identity
A sustainable campus
Conserve land.
Develop tramstops with high
exploitation blocks
