CLUB POLICIES
Visitors
All occasional visitors, may play without charge or if staying for an extended time pay a monthly
fee of $30.00 . No visitors, unless they become full members of the club, shall acquire any benefits
of membership nor be eligible to compete in club championships or league play . Donations are encouraged.
Dress Code



Flat soled shoes( indentations no deeper than 1/4”) are mandatory for ALL bowling.
No restriction for teams to wear same colour shirts for club championships
Check Dress code and footwear as set out on Page 30 of the 2015 OLBA Annual for further clarification.
Practice
All bowlers wishing to practice must make arrangements with the drawmaster for the assignment of a rink. Practicing members may be allowed on the greens before scheduled events with the
exception of tournaments or when all rinks are expected to be full (e.g. 4-3-2-1) but only under the
direction of the drawmaster and only when a drawmaster is on site.
Sick & Visiting—This is a note to ALL BOWLERS:
Please advise Irene I’Anson at 905-633-7551 or [email protected] if you hear of a lawn
bowler who is ill or in the hospital. She will contact people as needed. It would help her greatly if
we all kept her up-to-date. Thank you for your assistance.

"Open" is bowling for all members. Played whenever there are no
scheduled events.. Whites are NOT required and there is
NO CHARGE.

"JITNEY" BOWLING
Jitneys are open to all members for a nominal fee. Whites not required
. Usually played on Saturdays. Jitneys consist of two (2) games.

Five at 9:30 am on a "home" and "away" basis. .

This competition is open to all club members.
One chooses a partner, (forming "a team" for the season) to play every Thursday night
"Open" means 2 men or 2 ladies or 1 man and 1 lady.
Teams will be set up in "flights" (typically a flight will be 6 or more teams) based on last year’s final
ranking with new teams entering in the bottom flight.
After a round robin within each flight, teams
will be reranked and may move up or down flights based on their record in the round robin. After
reranking, a new round robin within each flight will be played followed by another reranking. In
this way, you can expect your games generally be against teams of a similar skill level to your own.
A fee may be charged for this league at the start of competition in order to pay for a few prizes and
an end of season party with food and drinks. Watch the bulletin board for a sign-up sheet and a
more detailed explanation of the ranking system.
League members are responsible for arranging their own spares should they be unable to play.
Not arranging a spare will lead to forfeiture of the game and repeated occurrences may lead to disqualification from the league for up to 1 year at the discretion of the league convener.

LAWN BOWLING ETIQUETTE
ETIQUETTE MAY BE DEFINED VERY SIMPLY AS
“GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP”
1. Begin each game with a friendly handshake, and end the game with the
same. Be a gracious winner and a good loser.
2. Be ready to step to the mat and play when it is your turn. Possession of the
mat is yours only until your delivered bowl comes to rest.
3. Wait quietly behind the collection of bowls and be prepared to take your next
turn. A bowler who is delivering his/her bowl should not be distracted by
noise or movement.
4. Remain quiet and still on the green behind the head and away from sideline
markers until the score has been agreed upon by both teams.
You are a team member!
Stay in the game!
5. Never openly criticize the condition of the green.
You must adjust your bowling to the conditions.
6. Never criticize a team member for a poorly played bowl.
7. Criticism should always be constructive and given privately.
8. Be sure to compliment a good shot from either your team or an
opponent.
“Nothing said about a poor shot is the best policy—especially if it gives
your team the count!”
PLAYERS, POSITIONS & THEIR DUTIES
The positions referred to are for a TRIPLES game,
This is our usual format for all club bowling.
LEAD
The lead of the team that scored the end is responsible for:
1. Placing the mat where his/her Skip wants it.
2. Rolling the jack toward where his/her Skip is standing.
3. Delivering the first bowl to start the end.
4. Developing the head using the same hand for delivery unless changed by
his/her Skip.
Both Leads are responsible for helping round up the bowls for the raker at the
end of an end and being involved in the game as the “head end” and standing
behind or next to your Vice-Skip
VICE-SKIP
1. The Vice-Skip always plays second and continues to develop the head at the
Skip’s direction.
2. The Vice-Skip is the one who measures when necessary.
3. The losing Vice-Skip is responsible for posting the score of completed end.
4. The Vice-Skip should stand approximately 6 feet behind the jack when the
opponent has the mat.
5. When the Vice-Skip’s team has possession of the mat, he/she can stand anywhere to direct the Skip (if asked). However, once your Skip has released the
bowl, the Vice-Skip must return to approximately 6 feet behind jack.
SKIP
1. The Skip is the captain of the team.
2. The Skip is responsible for directing his/her teammates in the development
of the head, by showing them where the bowl is to stop, then return to approximately 6 feet behind the jack when the bowl is released.
3. The Skip can ask his/her Vice-Skip for direction, or come down to look at the
head before bowling.
