Well, Freaky Friday is your cure.
Freaky Friday was created by Kayla Spinner in Mrs.
Bialt’s class. At first it was called Mad Monday. With
the class’s help, they expanded it to a persuasive
speech. After presenting it to Mrs. Pensak, it was then
called Freaky Friday. Then, after the children got
their parent’s permission, most of the class attended
the next faculty meeting. They persuaded everyone
that we should have a Freaky Friday. “I couldn’t wait”
quoted Kelvin Cheng. Freaky Friday has been a huge
success.
Freaky Friday is a day when you can come to school
wearing a crazy, silly, or scary costume. If you have
anything that is a distracting you during your
teacher’s lesson, your teacher may ask you to put it
away. No toy guns, masks or bathing suits. Have fun!

Types of Common Light Bulbs

The two most common
types of light bulbs are
Incandescent light bulbs
and Fluorescent light
bulbs.
Incandescent light
bulbs have very thin
fillings made of coiled
tungsten. When electricity
is charged through it, the
thin filling does not
conduct electricity well.
The heat from the
electricity creates heat,
which makes the filling
white hot. The heat
produces light.
But incandescent bulbs
use most of its electricity
charge to create heat, not
light. So it wastes most of
the electricity. That is
where florescent light
bulbs come in.
Florescent light bulbs
work on an entirely
different theory. The
electric charge excites the
mercury vapor inside and
the vapor produce invisible
ultraviolet light. The
ultraviolet light hits the
white chemical on the
glass. And the chemical
converts it into light.
Because florescent
lights use nearly all of its
electricity to make light. It
saves much more energy. A
60w incandescent may
only equal to a 15w
fluorescent light.

from all over Long Island in the choir.
One conductor and ten other people
helping out. Five songs to complete in
only three rehearsals. Every song we
sang was corrected. Every word we
pronounced, every note we skipped
and the way we stood.

week. From a Railway Carriage, Shine
on Me, Eamonn on Chnoic, When I
Close My Eyes and Sahayta were all
different songs that we sang with
different instruments, different tempos
and different languages.
Our conductor Mr. Knapp has
helped us warm up and clean up our
mistakes but Mr. Sugar helped the six
students of our school make it there.
Abby Chen, Daniel Cohen, Alyssa
Roblut, Hailee Elias, Marissa Aaronson
and me, Izabella Bostina, all worked
hard to get where we were. Mr. Sugar
helped us learn how to read the music,
Finally when we were ready we
performed in front of more than fivehundred people. C.W Post was the
place of the performance. Once we got
up on stage, our hearts raced. We
started to sing our first song and then
we just had fun! Mr. Knapp started
playing around with us on stage and
gave us a little boost of energy. Sadly
the last song had come upon us and
sooner or later the concert was over.
The practicing and the performance
went by so fast! The friends we met,
the fun we had and the sound of great
voices will be missed and kept in
memories forever!
This was an amazing
experience for everyone! We
completed our task and some even
completed a dream. Once we started
practicing, our smiles were seen to
many of the others. This was a
fantastic feature to some of our lives
that we can remember forever.

“Do you know how many helpless animals there
are in the world? If you did you would be very
upset. That is why you should donate food, toys,
cat litter, etc. to Bobby and the Strays Animal
Shelter. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN
THE WORLD!” (by Dean, Antonio and

That was one of many announcements that
student council members have announced over
the loudspeaker. The Student Council has done
many great things and donating food and toys to
Bobby and the Strays Animal Shelter is one of
them.
Art Club is a fun
club for 5th graders that
goes on after school. For
people who love art, it is a
great club to join!
The art club works
on projects and a lot of
other things. Sometimes
you work on things that
you can bring home. At art
club you can get creative
and have fun at the same
time. With so many art
supplies around you, who
wouldn’t want to start a
new art project right
away? You can also ask
your friends to join so you
can have company.
To try out for art
club you have to make an
art piece on whatever the
subject is. You won’t know
if you got in unless you
try!
Art club is fun and
definitely something you
should try out for! If you

To celebrate Holocaust
Remembrance Month in April, our
school has brought over Irving Roth (a
Holocaust survivor and author) to
share an amazing story that he has
experienced during his childhood life.
In 1929 Irving Roth was born
in Czechoslovakia (which is now
called Slovakia) Europe. Later he
grew up to be a little boy who loves
school and soccer. He loved to go to
the park and play on the soccer team.
He used to trick his grandparent into
getting something he wanted that his
parents did not let him get. “Take a
walk right by the store the item you
are looking for and walk in to get that
particular item. I used to do that all the
time.” Irving Roth stated.
Let’s jump on to when the
Nazis came in because there is

sooooo much to talk about.
Once the Nazis came to the
country everything was for non-Jewish
people Only!!!!!!! When all the Jews
left the country to Poland where all the
camps are. But now there were barely
any Jews left. But now one day an
officer put Irving Roth and his family to
jail. They escaped and ran to Hungary
where some relatives lived. But the
Nazis also took the Jews away from
Hungary. They sadly took away Irving
and his family. But his mother and
father were in the big city of Hungary,
and did not take them away. Now
when Irving and his family arrived at
the camps they were separated. Irving
and his brother on one side the rest
on the other. That was the end of the
family. But the bad was just starting.
Everything got worse. No food (he

the time with no food or sleep when

hiding in the cross space of the camp
with other kids. A police dog came to
sniff around and found them! The
guards made the sneaky campers
exit. While the rest of the crew was
leaving, 2 American soldiers came
and rescued the campers. The Nazis
were defeated and the campers were
free! (from the Nazis). The campers
were in good care now. Finally the
journey was over.

5th Grade Graduation

Hewlett Elementary. Don’t we all
love this school?
Isn’t graduation usually just fun? At
HES it’s fun and also pretty teary.
Graduating is really fun too! Going
to the middle school will be great.

He saw and had fun with his family
until his father passed away. Kneeling
on his father’s grave he heard a small
voice say “ go now. Fly free. Become
the man you were meant to be. Live in
hope. Keep the past in memory, but
shape your own tomorrow”. But
Obama took the advice and is now the
first African-American President. He
made history!
New Game
Based on Rock-a-paper-scissors and shoot.

This game is played in Hewlett in Ms.
Bialt’s 3rd grade class. If we have nothing
to do, we play this game.
How to Play: It is like Rock-a-paperscissors and shoot. So first of all, let’s
learn the movements. You start with patting your lap, table, ground or anything
that is comfortable with you. But at least
you have to pat something twice. You
have to pat the lap and reload. You have
to do reload to start the game. Even
though you do shield or reflect, you have
to do it. This how you do it: you put your
thumbs in a thumbs up position. You do it
to both of your hands. Your thumbs point
to the back.
The next one to learn is shield. It doesn’t
really do anything. This is how you do it. It
is the position when you are cold. You rap
yourself with your hands. If the gun
shoots it, you go to the next one.
The second one to learn is reflect. You
put your hands into a triangle position.
This beats gun which you are going to
learn next.
I think you know what a gun position
looks like right? You do it with your other
hand and put them together. This beats
reload.
Now you learned. I promise, once you
play it, you will have a lot of fun.
Have You Heard of the 4th Grade Orchestra?

orchestra? I am part of it. It hasn’t
started yet so you might not know. 4th
grade orchestra practice will be
starting on Thursday March 22, 2012.
See what pieces they will be playing!
The first piece they have learned is
“Our First March”. The members have
been working really hard, so pay
attention when they perform. Their
first practice will be on Thursday
March 22. The first performance will
be in the beginning of June.
Are you exited to hear them play? Ask
around to see if any of your friends are
participating in the orchestra. You
might be surprised! If you feel jealous,
don’t worry. You might be good at
things that your friend isn’t! You can
also try out for orchestra or band next
year if you are a 3rd grader.
