Two women were robbed of their personal belongings by four men who overpowered one lady on her way to her room.
“The two women were on their way to
their rooms after supper when the men
grabbed one of them. They told her to
keep quiet and forced her to her friend’s
room. The friend presumably noticed
Lethlabile police members traced and arrested two wanted alleged armed robbers aged 25 and
28 at Oskraal near Brits this week. The men are suspected to have been involved in a number
of armed robberies in Lethlabile and surroundings. The police recovered suspected stolen
property among which were two firearms, ammunition, a cellphone, an electricity prepaid
machine, tobacco snuff and Vodacom airtime vouchers. The suspects have appeared before
the Brits Magistrates’ Court. On the photo are the arresting officers Constables Makume,
Sakhoneka, Mabuza, Sekhu,Tlhapi and Sgt Maraisa with the recovered goods.

congestion on the R511, confirmed to Kormorant on Wednesday that the Madibeng
municipality has delivered the tar for the
road and that tarring will hopefully commence soon.

Local businesswoman chosen for business programme

applications countrywide were received

Murdered man’s
body found on
Skeerpoort road
The body of a 50-year-old man from the Brits area was discovered murdered alongside a road in Skeerpoort on Sunday.
“A passerby discovered the body next to the road near the Skeerpoort police station. His head was bloody and he was shot three
times,” said Hartbeespoort community policing forum spokesperson, Romano van der Spuy.
The man, who was originally unidentified, had now been identified as a Damonsville resident who was driving a green Nissan
Tiida at the time of his disappearance last weekend. The vehicle
and the man’s firearm are missing.
“We suspect the man had been hijacked, possibly by someone he
had given a lift to, and shot with his own weapon,’ Van der Spuy
said.
Tracks close to the body show that the body had been dragged to
where it was found. It appears as if he was killed elsewhere.
The man was wearing a grey T-shirt, jeans and black shoes at the
time of the incident.
The man’s identity cannot be made public yet as the next of kin
have to be informed first.
The Hartbeespoort police request anyone who might have information about the incident, to contact them on 012 253 7000.
“The police once again want to warn motorists not to offer transport to unknown people, and pedestrians not to accept lifts from
unknown people. A large number of cases of robbery, hijacking
and even murder have been reported following motorists giving lifts or pedestrians getting into vehicles of people they don’t
know,” Van der Spuy said.

The African National Congress (ANC) maintained
its majority in the Madibeng local municipality, as
well as mayor Jostina Mothibe.
Kabelo Ntshabele was elected as the speaker of
the Madibeng council last Thursday.
Mothibe received 46 votes, while Eddie Barlow of
the Democratic Alliance (DA) received 34 votes.
Ntshabele received 45 votes, while former
Madibeng mayor, now a DA councillor, Abram
Speaker Kabelo Ntshabele
Ratlou received 35 votes.
The ANC won 45 council seats with 54.4%, the
DA 16 seats, the EFF 14, and the F4SD and FF Plus
each two seats, while the AIC and Cope each won
a seat each in the recent municipal elections.
The executive mayor said that the council is
“ready to continue carrying the mandates of the
people and harness economic opportunities for
improvement of the lives of the people.”

verdagte vir die moord op Laurika Potgieter,
op 10 Augustus op ‘n plot by Wag-’n-Bietjie,
Dinsdag deur die Hartbeespoort polisie vasgetrek.
Volgens Romano van der Spuy, die woordvoerder vir Hartbeespoortdam gemeenskapspolisiëringsforum, is die verdagte Dinsdag
gedurende die dag by Ten Rooms gearresteer.
“Van die oorledene se gesteelde goedere is in
besit van die verdagte gevind.”
Die ander twee verdagtes, werkers van Laurika, het verlede week reeds in die hof op
aanklag van haar moord verskyn.
Intussen het die plaaslike en internasionale
gemeenskap harte oopgemaak vir die drie
Potgieter-kinders wat wees gelaat is na hulle
weduweema se moord.

Moller en Elsa Cornelissen. Ons het ook skenkings van groot name in die kunswêreld soos
Johan Smit, André Vorster, Joe Joubert en Raoul
Bosch, om maar net ‘n paar te noem, gekry,” sê
Andri.

Ludwig’s Bustard ‘Neotis ludwigii’/Ludwig se pou
The Ludwig’s Bustard is virtually endemic
to southern Africa and is mainly found in
South Africa and Namibia, although its
distribution extends marginally into the
southwestern parts of both Angola and
Botswana. It occasionally enters Lesotho.
They are distributed in the drier parts
of South Africa, except the eastern belt.
Partial migrant in Karoo scrub extending
to the arid western regions of the Eastern
Cape, it is relatively uncommon in these
drier areas. In the Western Cape, it is
largely confined to the Karoo and Namaqualand, south to Lamberts Bay.
Named after Baron Carl von Ludwig (1784
- 1847) a German pharmacist, botanist,
zookeeper and businessman, who lived in
Cape Town from 1805 to 1847, its primary
habitat comprises the open plains of the
Karoo and Namibia, but it also enters the
fringes of the southern Kalahari and the
drier western grasslands.
It is the smallest of the three larger bustards of the region. Bustards are large,
cursorial birds of open country. Sexes differ. Males are larger with inflatable throat
pouches that create spectacular white
balloon displays. Sexes are fairly similar
in plumage coloration; the female being
paler.

Aarbeifees vind volgende naweek, 2 en 3
September van vroeg tot laat by die Brits
Mall plaas.
Behalwe vir verkope van dié gesonde, soet
rooi vruggie is daar oudergewoonte weer
vermaak vir oud en jonk uit die boonste
rakke.
Reeds van 12:00 op Vrydag skop die
feestelikheid af met optredes deur verskeie
countrysangers. Van die bekende name
waarna daar uitgesien kan word, sluit in
Dennis East, Billy Forrest, Eddie Eckstein
en Bobby Louw. Die amptelike opening is
om 13:00, waarna die countrysangers weer
agter die mikrofoon inskuif. Henco, Clarice
en die Reënboogkids, Ampie en Riana
Nel gaan verder musiekvermaak tot laat
Vrydagaand bied.
Om 08:00 Saterdagoggend is dit tyd vir
die 5 km pretloop, aangebied deur die
Hartbeespoort Marathonklub. Die inskrywingsfooi beloop R30 en daar is kontantpryse vir die eerste drie plekke op die spel.
Elke persoon wat die wedloop voltooi sal
ook ‘n medalje ontvang. Inskrywings kan
Vrydag gedoen word, of Saterdagoggend
van 06:00.
Na afloop van die pretloop en fietswedren
tree die trompoppies op, en daar is ‘n
stoeidemonstrasie. Daarna is daar verskeie
kunstenaars wat deur die loop van die dag

SA Huweliksweek
in September
Suid-Afrika se egskeidingsyfer is die
hoogste ooit. Vanaf 1 tot 7 September
vind SA Huweliksweek plaas, ’n veldtog wat daarop gemik is om Suid-Afrika weereens te herinner aan die heiligheid en belangrikheid van die huwelik
as instelling.
Volgens data wat deur Statistiek SA
vrygestel is, het die land se egskeidingsyfer sedert 2012 met bykans 5%
verhoog, terwyl die hoeveelheid troues
afgeneem het. Dié verslag, getiteld Marriages and Divorces 2014, is in Februarie
vanjaar bekendgestel. Dis gebaseer op
die 21 998 voltooide skeidokumente wat
Statistiek SA teen die einde van September 2014 ontvang en verwerk het.
Die hoeveelheid egskeidings dui op ’n
toename van 1 018 (4,9%) egskeidings
van die 20 980 sake wat in 2011 verwerk
is. Hierdie hoë egskeidingsyfer is rede
tot kommer aangesien egskeiding ’n
dramatiese uitwerking op die samelewing het. Die data het bevind dat meer as
die helfte van alle egskeidings plaasvind tussen paartjies met kinders onder
die ouderdom van 18 en dat die meeste
geskeide pare vir sowat vyf tot nege
jaar getroud was.
Die gemiddelde ouderdom vir mans en
vroue wat skei, is onderskeidelik 43 vir
mans en 40 vir vroue. Sowat 80% van
egskeidings is onder eerste huwelike.
“Dit is dikwels die moeilike fase in ’n
huwelik, waartydens groot veranderinge gebeur en paartjies met heelwat
aanpassings gekonfronteer word. Die
spanning waaronder ’n paartjie in dié
tyd verkeer, het selfs buite-egtelike
verhoudings tot gevolg,” vertel Liezel
van der Merwe, stigter van SA Huweliksweek. “Dit is gedurende dié tyd
wanneer ’n paartjie besluit om deur te
druk of om te skei.”
Ander oorsake sluit dikwels in onrealistiese verwagtinge, kommunikasieprobleme en finansiële druk.
“Gedurende SA Huweliksweek wil ons
paartjies inspireer om vas te byt en deur
hul probleme te werk,” sê Elanie Bell,
koördineerder van SA Huweliksweek.
“Daar is wel gevalle waarin egskeiding
onvermydelik is, maar paartjies moet
dit altyd beskou as die heel laaste uitweg. Soveel stappe kan geneem word
voor ’n huwelik daardie punt bereik.”

New spin on popular Ford Ranger
The popular Ford Ranger, which has been
the top-selling light commercial vehicle in
South Africa on several occasions, received a trend-setting model expansion in
July. This expansion is spearheaded by the
option of Ford’s sophisticated six-speed
automatic transmission on the 2.2-litre
Duratorq TDCi models for the first time.
The manufacturer believes the option
gives the Ranger even greater appeal, as
it’s one of the first pick-ups in the LCV
segment to offer an automatic transmission on the smaller-capacity intermediate
derivatives.
Tracey Delate, general marketing manager, Ford Motor Company of Southern
Africa, says: “The success of the automatic
transmission option on the Ford Ranger is
unprecedented, with almost 70% of buyers
opting for the auto instead of the manual
in the powerful 3.2-litre model.
“The latest refinements, increased performance and enhanced fuel efficiency
of the New Ranger, particularly with the
updated 2.2 Duratorq TDCi engine, has
led to growing customer interest in the option of an automatic transmission on these
models.
“We are delighted to announce that
2.2-litre Auto will be available from July,”
Delate says. “ The six-speed automatic
transmission has been specially adapted
for the refined 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine,
and makes the most of its power output of
118kW/385Nm, says Ford.
A total of nine 2.2 TDCi Auto variants are
offered, boosting the revised Ranger lineup to a total of 36 models. It is available
across all three body styles, including the
Single Cab, the versatile Super Cab, and
the spacious Double Cab.
In addition, customers are able to select
from all three trim and specification levels
in the case of the Ranger Double Cab

Anatomy of the hip joint
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint. The
ball is formed by the round head of femur
located at the top of the femur or thigh
bone. This ball fits snugly into a cavity in
the pelvic bone which forms the socket
and is called the acetabulum.
How have I ended up needing a hip
replacement?
The most common cause of chronic hip
pain and disability is arthritis. Below are
the three pathways to getting hip arthritis.
Osteoarthritis
- 50 years of age and older
- A family history of arthritis
- Over use of a specific joint over years
In this form of disease, the articular cartilage cushioning the bones of the hip wears
away. The bones then rub against each
other, causing hip pain and stiffness. The
affected leg may become shortened, muscles may weaken and a limp may develop.
Rheumatoid arthritis
It is an auto-immune disease in which the
synovial membrane surrounding the hip
becomes inflamed, producing too much
synovial fluid and damages the articular
cartilage, leading to pain and stiffness
Traumatic arthritis
It can follow a serious hip injury where the
articular cartilage becomes damaged over
time causing pain and stiffness. It can also
follow a fracture of the hip which causes
damage to the blood supply to the head of
the femur which dies and eventually collapses causing pain in the hip.
Three types of hip replacement
1) Total hip replacement
The painful parts of the damaged hip are
replaced with artificial parts known as a
prosthesis, a device that substitutes or sup-

2) Hemi replacement
Only the ball of the femur is replaced. The
prosthesis is made of a metal stem that fits
into the hollow marrow space of the femur.
It has a metal ball that fits into the socket
of the hip joint. The acetabulum remains
as is.
3) Surface replacement
It is still a total hip replacement, but a
newer technique where bone is conserved
leaving the femoral neck and head attached and hence sparing them. So rather
than removing the arthritic femoral head,
the surface of the head is shaved off and
reshaped and resurfaced with a mushroom
like cap.
After surgery, are there any precautions I
need to be aware of?
For six weeks post-surgery following
standard hip replacements:
• Do not bend hip past 90 degrees
• Do not cross legs or bring the operated
leg across the midline of the body

Rehabilitation
Exercises are important after a hip joint
replacement, as the leg muscles on the
affected side are often weak and tight, as
pain and stiffness in the arthritic hip has
limited normal movement.
Also, as a result of the surgery, the muscles
around the hip joint have been cut, divided, and/or detached and hence are very
weak and so do not provide the strength
and control that is needed.
Progressive strengthening exercises will
promote healing, range of movement and
strength to the new hip joint.
Consultation with a physiotherapist will
help ensure you are doing these exercises
correctly and progressing at an appropriate pace.

National colours PLG tennis aces
These members of the JKA Hartbeespoort have been awarded SAJKA national colours.
They are Benjamin Henning, Marlee Lyons, Donee Barendze and Pieter Pretoruis. The
selection process was finalised at the recent SAJKA national tournament held at the
Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg. This is the biggest karate tournament of its kind
in South Africa.
Vallance siblings
excel in sport
PLG Hartbeespoort Academy’s u/11 tennis team played its first league match for the season
against Laerskool Stephanus Roos. The boys claimed victory with an outstanding score of
36 - 7. All the boys won their single games and in teams they also won their doubles 5 - 2. The
PLG team members are from left Steffin van Sittert, Tihan van der Colff, James Bosman, Markus
de Beer and Daniel Bothma.

Pret en prestasie op die baan
Suné Claassen het onlangs aan die Fauresmith 200 km wedren in die Vrystaat deelgeneem. Sy
het die Gauteng A-span verteenwoordig en het baie goed gery. Sy het algeheel 18de geeïndig
in `n tyd van 09:47. Dit was haar perd Shakir Sokkies se tweede Fauresmith-wedren gewees.
Hierdie jaar was `n baie meer uitdagende rit en uit die 339 ruiters wat die uithourit begin het,
kon slegs 185 die rit voltooi.
Dié tennisspelers van Laerskool Generaal Hendrik Schoeman, wat deur Gusta Koekemoer (heel
voor) afgerig word, het gedurende die vakansie aan ‘n toernooi in Pretoria deelgeneem. Hulle is
Kristi Koekemoer, Bernard Kritzinger, Salmon Pienaar, Jana Koekemoer, Juane Lessing, Larisca
Kritzinger, Hymne en Ruan Hatting, Zander Wentzel, Marco Kritzinger, Petrie de Nyschen,
Erich Landman, Tahlita de Wet en RB Laubscher. Kristi, Jana, Petrie, Bernard, Marko, Chamone
en Erich het baie goed gevaar in hulle onderskeie afdelings. Salmon het ook die prys vir goeie
sportmangees gewen. Die kinders het die deelname geniet en ook goeie wedstydondervinding
opgedoen wat hulle goed te staan sal kom in die liga.

Nick Stoop met ‘n 8.5 kg karp by Schoemansville Oewerklub.
Karphengel die week was baie traag, met slegs jong vis wat
by oewers gevang is. Neels Botha kon vanaf Schoemansville
Oewerklub ses karp land wat gesamentlik 9.5 kg geweeg het.
De Rustoewer het ook karpvangste gelewer van tussen 1 en
4 kg. Terugvoer vanaf hengelaars oor vangste gedurende die
week was dat aas lank lê voor enige beweging plaasvind.
Met die somermaande wat voorlê kan hengelaars hulle reg
maak vir swartbaars wat gewoonlik goed bedrywig raak
gedurende Septembermaand in Hartbeespoortdam.
Saterdag 27 Augustus vind die Cast for Cash Baars-kompetisie by Hartbeespoortdam plaas. Bote word vanaf Meerhof- oewer te water gelaat waar die inweeg en prysuitdeling
ook sal plaasvind. Twin Series se karphengelprodukte, wat
al goeie vangste vir hengelaars gelewer het, is beskikbaar by
Landmark Hartbeespoort. Probeer gerus die Shanana, Top
Gun, Rooi GP, Turbo pine en Perdeby dips tydens hengelsessies.

Hartbeespoort Rugby Club’s first and second team made history over the weekend by both winning their finals in the
Carlton C-league and bringing home both trophies.
The first team (top) trashed Bronkhorstpruit 22-3, with two tries each by Stephan Kekana and Chris Ebersohn. The second
team left it to the last minute to clinch victory from Transnet Parke, with a final score of 22-18. IB Saaiman scored a
hat-trick and delivered a man of the match performance. Oarabile Shima and Wessel Cronjé, both first team players, have
since been selected for the Blue Bulls Platteland team that will play against the Leopards and Limpopo Blue Bulls.
Well done to all the players, the coaches and supporters.
