TOPS and THE LOUISIANA AWARD SYSTEM: One way
to keep up-to-date on the status of your child's TOPS eligibility status
is to have the student create an account on the Louisiana Award System webpage. This online tool allows parents/students to view and
update personal information for LOSFA, review the receipt of ACT
and FAFSA records, and view the student's TOPS eligibility status and
high school/college transcript records. Additionally, this service enables you to view, submit, and update exception requests, and see any
notifications, which may be communicated via WebFocus. To gain
access to the Louisiana Award System webpage, the student must create an account. To create an account, go to http://www.osfa.la.gov/
and then click on the Louisiana Award System tab located on the lefthand margin of the page. If you or your student has any questions
related to his/her TOPS eligibility status, please contact LOSFA at
(225) 219-1012.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
1.
St. Michael is currently open Monday through Thursday from
7:30 a.m. to noon. School office hours will return to 7:00 a.m.

For the convenience of planning, a letter will be mailed to parents of seniors by mid-September about specific senior events.
4.
Shuttle buses will run as usual Monday, August, 8. The monthly

for routes.

program is $100 per semester. If you are interested in this service, please contact Mrs. Susan McKinley at 753-9782, ext.12.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
SENIOR PICTURES: Barclell Studio will take all senior yearbook pictures. Pictures are encouraged to be taken during the summer;
however, the deadline for senior yearbook pictures is September 30,
2016. All grooming must be to St. Michael standards for your yearbook
picture. If you have any questions about those standards, please see the
handbook. Our handbook is posted online, if you need that reference. Barclell Studio is located at 251 Tate Road in Denham
Springs. To schedule an appointment, their number is 791-1951.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:
Thank you to all who helped make the 2015-2016 school year be so successful. We are very proud to have been a vital part of the successful Diocesan Accreditation Process. The St. Michael administration and staff is especially proud of the 164 graduates of the Class
of 2016. Their leadership, scholarship, and school spirit left a positive impact on the entire school community.
Planning for upcoming school year began long before summer. The administration and staff are busy completing those plans for what
promises to be an exciting and challenging year. The administration, along with the Advisory Board, are busy implementing our Five
Year Strategic Plan. The faculty, staff, and administration are working on continuous improvement. The Advancement Office has been
diligently working to complete our Capital Campaign.
When you return to school in August you may notice some wonderful additions. We will have completed construction on our covered
bus stop which serves as a launching point for our building program. You will also notice the new permanent school sign out front.
This was a gift of two of our recent senior classes.
We are changing our usual first day of school for students to have a more efficient and effective start to the year. On Friday, August 5th,
each grade level will follow an orientation schedule. Be sure to check the schedule for your child on the first page of the newsletter.
The St. Michael community welcomes Mr. Thomas Huck who will serve as our Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. Mr.
Huck has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from Mississippi State University, a Master of Arts in Theology and Christian
Ministry from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and is completing a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from
Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. He comes to us from Archbishop Hannan High School in Covington where he served
as Director of Campus Ministry, Department Chair, teacher, and coach. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Huck. His knowledge and
experience, along with his leadership skills will be great gifts to our school.
The success of our school and of our students depends upon the continued involvement of our stakeholders. I urge you to consider ways
that you can be involved in helping the school achieve. Make a donation to our Capital Campaign. Serve as a volunteer for our Golf
Tournament or our annual Gala and Auction. Parent volunteers are needed in the Advancement Office, in our Home and School and in
our Warrior Club. Get involved.
Summer is a busy time for a high school. The maintenance staff works all summer long to insure that the physical plant is in top condition for the first day of school. The summer plans involve cleaning, waxing, and painting. We are grateful to all who work so diligently
during the months of June and July to help prepare for the opening of school on Friday, August 5 th .
Have a restful and safe summer!
Ellen B. Lee, Pr incipal
