Postal Union of October 9, 1874.

LE Departement des Postes Suisses ayant propose a tous les membres de
l'U nion Generale des Postes : 1. Par Circulaire du 20 0Qtobre, 1876,. d'admettre dans l'Union
Generale des Postes, aux memes conditions que l'ont ere les Colonies
Fran9aises et l'Inde Britannique, c'est-a-dire aux conditions de !'arrangement
signe a. Berne le 27 J anvier, 1876, les Colonies Britailniques de Ceylan,
des Etablissements du Detroit (Straits Settlements), de Labouan, Trinidad, .
de la Guyane Britannique, des Iles Bermudes et de la J ama'ique;

2. Par Circulaire du 11 N ovembre, 1876, d'admettre la Colonie Britannique de l'Ile Maurice et de ses dependances dans l'Union Generale des
Postes, aux conditions de !'arrangement precite du 27 Janvier, 1876;
3. Par Circulaire du 8 Janvier, 1877, d'admettre egalement et aux
memes conditions dans l'Union Generale des Postes la Colonie Britannique
de Hong Kong;
Et aucune objection contre ces propositioM n'ayant ete presentee dans
le delai de six semaines prescrit par l'Article XVII, p~phe 6, du Traite
de Berne du 9 Octobre, 1874 ; Les Soussignes, dftment autorises 8. cet effet, constatent par le present
acte diplomatique I'adhesion definitive, des le 1•• A vril, 1877, du Gouvernement Britannique, pour ses Colonies de Ceylan, des Straits Settlements, de
Labouan, Trinidad, de la Guyane Britannique, des Iles Bermudes. de la
J ama'ique, de l'Ile Maurice et de ses dependances, et de Hong Kong, aux
stipulations du Traite concernant la creation de l'Union Gen~rale des Postes,
conclu a Berne, le 9 Oct9bre, 1874, ainsi qu'aux dispositions du reglement de
detail pour l'execution du dit Traite.

THE Swiss Postal Department having proposed to all the members of
the General Postal. Union : 1. By a Circular dated October 20, 1876, the admission into the General
Postal Union on the same conditions as the French Colonies and British
India, that is, on the terms of the arr~ngement signed at Berne on the
27th of January, 1876, of the following British Colonies :-Oeylon, the
Straits Settlements, Labuan, Trinidad, British Guiana, the Bermudas, and
Jamaica;
2. By a Circular dated N OTembe:t 11, 1876, the admission into the
General Postal Union of the Island of Mauritiu·s and its dependencies on
the terms of the above-mentioned arrangement of January 27, 1S76;

3. By a Circular dated January 8, 1877, the admission on the same
terms into the General Postal Union of tl:ie British Colony of Hong Kong ;
And no objection to these proposals having been brought forward within
the space of six weeks, prescribed by Article XVII~ patagraph 6, of the
Treaty of Berne of October 9, 1874 ;The Undersigned, ha-ving received due authority for this purpose, declare
by the present diplomatic instrument the definitive adhesion of the British
Government on and after the 1st of Ap~, 1877, for its Colonies of Ceylon,
the Straits Settlements, Labuan, Trinidad, British Guiana, the Bermudas,
Jamaica, Mauritius and its dependenc~, and Hong Kong, to the provisions
of the Treaty concerning the creation of the General Postal Union concluded
at Berne on the 9th of October, I874,.:as well as to the stipulations and
arrangements in detail for the carrying into effect of the said Treaty.
