PROVIDENCE COLLEGE PARENT PROGRAM
The college experience is full of new opportunities, challenges,
Providence College is a special place. We offer many helpful
and transitions. This is true for both your student and your
services and resources, including a program just for PC parents
family, especially during the first year of college. To assist with
and families, because we know that family support is an integral
this important transition, we have developed a special program
part of a student’s success. The more information you have,
for parents/guardians that will take place during your student’s
the better able you will be to support your son or daughter

throughout the college years.
unique workshops, as well as opportunities for you to gather
information about campus services and have your questions
answered face-to-face. During orientation, you will have the
opportunity to learn about specific strategies to help address the
many developmental and transitional issues commonly faced by
students.
The main goals of the Providence College Parent Program are
to enhance parents’ understanding of the college experience
WELCOME
NEW STUDENTS
and to promote student growth and development. Our resources
are designed to keep parents informed and connected to the
Providence College community. Resources include a parent
handbook, newsletters, and a comprehensive parent website. On
We look forward to seeing many of you at the program this
our website you will find a compilation of “Frequently Asked
summer!
Questions,” issues for parents to address with students during
the summer before classes begin, recommended readings on
parenting a college student, and talking points on such issues as
campus safety and academic integrity. Also provided are links to
campus departments, College events, and emergency services.
The “Ask A Question” feature on our website enables parents
to type in a question on any PC subject. We will research the
inquiry and provide a prompt response. We invite you to visit our
website at: providence.edu/PCParents. It is updated on a regular
basis, so check it often for new information.
The Parent Program also sends out e-communications to parents
each month during the academic year. These timely messages
provide updated information about special events, important
dates and deadlines, new programs, and user-friendly guides to
College policies and procedures.
We hope that you will take full advantage of the resources of the
PC Parent Program during the next four years.
ON BEHALF OF THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AND THE CENTER FOR
ORIENTATION, TRANSITIONS & LEADERSHIP, I AM EXCITED TO WELCOME YOU TO
THE “FRIAR FAMILY”!
Please consider this mailing your guide to New Student Orientation — to be used in preparation for
your transition into the Providence College community. Enclosed, you will find important information
about our programs, “essentials” that must be completed in advance of orientation, and involvement
opportunities for incoming students. It is important that you read this mailing in its entirety and pay
particular attention to the dates and deadlines listed within.
During our summer Advising & Registration Days, all new students are invited to learn about academics
and services available on campus and begin building connections with members of the PC community.
Parents/guardians are also invited to participate in programming designed specifically for them during
these one-day sessions.
On Aug. 25, new students* will return to Providence for our Fall Orientation program, during which they
will have the opportunity to truly get to know campus by participating in workshops, tours, and social
programs with faculty, staff, and student leaders. After residence hall move-in that morning, the program
will officially begin with our traditional Mass of Welcome for new students and families at 3 p.m. After
Mass, parents/guardians are invited to stay for a brief speaking program and reception, while students
officially kick off their Providence College experience with our orientation staff.
Fall Orientation will take place during both the weekend before classes begin (Aug. 25-28) and the first
weekend of the semester (Sept. 2-4). Orientation is a mandatory experience for ALL new students –
resident and commuter – so please plan to be on campus for the duration of both weekends.
IMPORTANT BILLING INFORMATION
Providence College uses an electronic billing and
payment system. Tuition bills for the academic year are
generated electronically and e-mailed to the student’s
@friars.providence.edu e-mail address. Students can
authorize another user (i.e., parent/guardian) to view
and pay the bill. Once a student sets up an authorized
user, e-Bill notifications will be sent to the student and
the authorized users’ email addresses.
To set up an account for an authorized user to access
the e-Bill, the student will need to visit
providence.edu/bursar/expenses and follow the
instructions. From this same web page, you can access
more information regarding e-Billing and e-Payment by
clicking the “Frequently Asked Questions” link at the
bottom of the page.
For more detailed information about Orientation – including schedules for the summer and fall programs
– please refer to our website: providence.edu/orientation. Should you have additional questions, please
contact us at [email protected] or 401.865.1085.
I look forward to meeting you soon!

SURVEYS
The Peer Mentor Program (PMP) features “collaborative mentoring,” where peers both individually and collectively support
first-year, first generation students. Mentors each work with their own group of mentees, while also remaining available
to answer questions or connect with mentees outside of that group. The PMP promotes both community and academic
excellence by connecting mentees with campus resources such as Career Education & Professional Development, Residence
Life, Campus Ministry, Student Activities, and Academic Services. To kick off the program this fall, we will host a fun,
overnight retreat for mentors and first-year mentees.

CARD INFORMATION
INFORMATION
Your Providence College Identification
Card, the PC Card, is much more than a
simple photo ID. It is also your meal card,
your library card, and your bus pass. It
provides you access to your residence hall
and the Concannon Fitness Center. It is
also a safe and convenient way to make
purchases on and off campus. If you have a
Santander checking account, you can link
your PC Card to your account for ATM and
PIN-based bank transactions.
You can upload your student photo through the use of our Online Card Office website
instead of waiting in line to take your photo during the Advising & Registration Days.
In order to log into the website and upload your student ID card photo, you will need your
Providence College Network/Sakai username and PIN. Your username and PIN are provided
to you within this mailing packet in a sealed envelope from the Office of Enrollment Services.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WELCOME PROGRAM Aug. 19 – 23, 2016
The International Student Welcome Program (ISWP) provides the opportunity for international students to adjust
to life at Providence College. This program is mandatory for all students on Providence College-sponsored F-1 and
J-1 visas, as it will include important information regarding the rules and regulations of maintaining valid status
in the United States. It is also open to U.S. citizens who have spent the majority of their lives abroad. U.S. citizen
participants must be pre-registered, as space is limited.
The ISWP includes spending time with upper-class international students, meeting faculty and staff, learning about
American college life, and exploring the city of Providence. By the end of the program, students will be prepared for
life as a Friar!
Questions about the ISWP should be directed to the Center for International Studies at [email protected] or
401.865.2114.
FAITHWORKS SERVICE IMMERSION
Aug. 20 – 25, 2016
FaithWorks is a faith-based service program that will bring incoming first-year to campus before the Fall
Orientation program. A campus minister and 10 student coordinators will lead FaithWorks in collaboration with the
Diocese of Providence.
FaithWorks participants will be immersed in the city of Providence from the perspective of Catholic social services
and of marginalized groups, residents, and neighborhoods that those ministries serve. Students will fulfill the call
of the Gospel by serving in and learning about a wide variety of populations and social issues: homelessness, elderly
care, incarceration, immigration, and refugee services. With prayer, reflection, conversations with local leaders,
community-building exercises, and social activities, FaithWorks is a great way to begin your Providence College
career!

FERPA
FERPA INFORMATION
INFORMATION
The College’s student records privacy policy is guided by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
of 1974 (FERPA). FERPA provides enrolled college students with a number of specific rights, including
the right to control disclosure of personally identifiable information from educational records without the
student’s prior written consent. There are several exceptions to the written consent mandate, including
one that permits disclosures when there are health or safety emergencies involving the student.
INFORMATION
Providence College is required by law to keep certain medical information on file for all full-time
students. A health record is enclosed which all new students must complete and return to Health
Services by July 15, 2016. This report will become part of your confidential medical record and is
critical to your care. Please fill it out accurately and completely. Unreturned or incomplete health
records may mean registration delays or disciplinary action.
Once a student’s written authorization is received by the Office of Enrollment Services, designees may be
informed of that student’s status at Providence College, including grades, academic standing, and financial
information. This authorization to release information will remain in effect unless the student withdraws
their consent in writing and submits it to the Office of Enrollment Services. If at any time after submission
of the authorization form, any student wishes to modify the list of individuals authorized to receive
confidential information, they must complete a new authorization form and return it to Harkins Hall 310.
Enrolled students may choose to withhold directory information (e.g., address, telephone number, date
of birth, major) by completing a Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information Form and
returning it to the Office of Enrollment Services, Harkins Hall 310, within three days of the beginning
of the fall semester.
Prior to College entrance, all students are required to have a current physical exam (dated after Mar. 1,
2015). In addition, you must provide proof of all immunizations (month, day, and year) listed on the
health record and answer the tuberculosis screening questions provided on page 4 of the health record,
as required by RIDOH.
If you have questions concerning the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, please direct your
inquiries to the Office of Enrollment Services, Harkins Hall 310, 401.865.2982, or [email protected].
College students, depending on living conditions and habits, may be at increased risk of developing
meningitis. Providence College, along with the Centers for Disease Control, the RIDOH, and the
American College Health Association, strongly encourage you to discuss this information with your
health care provider and provide the required proof of immunization for the meningococcal vaccine.
CYBERFRIAR PROXY ACCESS
If at any time there is a change in your health status, allergies, home address, phone number, or
insurance coverage, it is your responsibility to update your records with the Student Health Center.
Please call 401.865.2422 if you have any questions about the enclosed health record or Health Services.
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE
Students must have comprehensive health insurance coverage while enrolled at Providence College.
To ensure that students have access to comprehensive coverage, Providence College offers a Student
Health Insurance Plan administered by University Health Plans. Students may waive enrollment in
the College’s plan if they are covered by a comparable health insurance plan. The coverage period
for the 2016-2017 academic year is Sept. 1, 2016 – Aug. 31, 2017. A letter will be mailed to your home
address in early June with the specific details on how to waive or enroll.
CyberFriar “Proxy Access” allows students the ability to grant access to mid-term/final grades and financial
information to parent(s)/guardian(s).

will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, and the charge will be billed on
the fall bill.
Please note that a waiver/enrollment form must be completed each academic year.
You may add as many parents/guardians as you wish. You are able to control the start and stop dates of access
and may rescind it at any time. If a parent/guardian forgets his/her PIN, you also have the ability to reset it.

STUDENT HEALTH, FERPA & CYBERFRIAR PROXY INFORMATION
STUDENT HEALTH
In accordance with Providence College’s FERPA policy, students may authorize the College to release
confidential educational information to parents/guardians, or any other individual, by completing and
signing a Release of Information Authorization Form. This form also provides students the opportunity
to permit the College to use their photographic images in its educational or promotional materials.
Any student deciding to submit this form should please do so within two weeks of matriculation. This
authorization form is located on our website at providence.edu/enrollment-services/students/documents/
