Interactive Emergency Preparedness and
Civic Ready system

launched its new emergency
preparedness and mass notification
services system for citizens, which
can be found online at www.
greensburgonline.com/EmergencyAlerts. Greensburg has partnered
with CivicReady to create this new
site. CivicReady is an expert in
helping local governments engage
communities in emergency
preparedness to provide them with
official and direct mass communication
in emergency situations.
This emergency communication
tool and website allows Greensburg
to communicate with citizens
quickly and efficiently before,
during and after an emergency.
Citizens can be reached through
the website, email, SMS, voice calls
and social media platforms. FEMA-sourced
emergency preparedness content is
easily accessible to citizens to keep
the community informed in the
event of an emergency.
“This new system will take the
place of the Code Red system the
city had put in place a few years
ago when the service was owned
by One Call.” said Mayor Lisle
Cheatham. He went on to say, “We
had continued to experience issues
with the Code Red system and our
citizens receiving warning calls.

According to city officials, the
CivicReady system has been pre-loaded
with all the numbers they have
in their databases, but they urge
residents to go online to register to
receive emergency alert notifications.

com and click on the CivicReady
graphic or directly register at www.
greensburgonline.com/EmergencyAlerts. You have the power to
register into the system all the
phone numbers and addresses you
want contacted in the event of an
emergency. While there you will be
asked to select the types of emergencies
you want to be contacted about as
well what methods you want used
– text, email, voice, SMS, and/or
social media.

be sure to enter a valid address so
you are contacted when your area
is being affected. Confirm your
subscription immediately after by
checking your email. In the event
of an emergency this will allow the
city to immediately notify citizens
of an event.

The new CivicReady Emergency Alert System was used to issue an alert for traffic interruptions on
Monday, August the 25th due to the extraction of this Summersville Fire Department truck after a
parking lot collapsed.

Grandpa Jones to Visit Greensburg: Cow Days 2014

of songs learned from his parents and
the radio, won a talent contest that led
to regular work on an Akron radio station.
That launched a career that lasted more
than sixty years. It was during tours
with country music star (and fellow
Kentuckian) Bradley Kincaid in the
1930s that Jones developed the Grandpa
persona he used the rest of his life.
Jones wrote many of his most popular
songs. Like many old-time musicians,
he struggled during the rock-and-roll
craze of the 1950s—he toured Canada
and tried his hand at early television.
Beginning in 1969, television brought
Jones fame as a member of the original
cast of “Hee Haw,” which showcased his
skills as a vaudeville comic. Grandpa
Jones was inducted into the Country
Music Hall of Fame in 1978. He never
retired, suffering a fatal stroke after a
performance at the Grand Ole Opry in
1998.
Grandpa Jones will be performing
at 7p CT on September the 19th at
the Greensburg Community Center.
This performance is free and open to
the public.
2014 Greensburg 20/20 Partners:
2nd Annual Battle Over Green River
The Greensburg Fitness Park and
Disc Golf Course will be hosting the
2nd Annual Battle Over Green River
Disc Golf tournament on Saturday,
Septemer 20th. The tournament is
a PDGA sanctioned event and will
include four rounds on the
9-hole course.
There will be five divisions offered to
include: pro, advanced,
intermediate, recreational and a
non-PDGA sanctioned novice
division. The pro, advanced,
intermediate and recreational
divisions will have a players meeting
at 8:15a CT prior to the start of the
tournament at 8:30a CT. The novice
division for new players and families
will begin at 11a CT and will be nine
holes in length.
Third time is a charm! Originally
scheduled for last October and
rescheduled again for May, but
the rain had other plans - the Fire
Department benefit ride has been
rescheduled for Saturday, September

The 2nd Annual Battle Over Green
River is a Greensburg 20/20 program.
Fire Department for a scenic 75-mile ride
around beautiful Green County.
We’ll visit our brothers and sisters
at Exie, Grab and Summersville
Fire Departments. Ride proceeds
benefit the completion costs of the
new Greensburg - Green County Fire
Station.
Registration begins at 10a CT in
front of the new Fire Station on
Dakota Meyer Drive (behind Fred’s
and Kentucky Farm Bureau). Kickstands
up at 12p CT to line up for the Annual
Cow Days Parade. $25 per bike, all
proceeds benefit GGCFD.
