JERSEYVILLE — The month of
October gives Jerseyville Banking
Center two reasons to celebrate.
In addition to being the one-year
anniversary of the new facility, it
also has been recognized as
the Jersey County Business
Association’s Business of the
Month.
“We really appreciate the
recognition and support we
have received from the Jersey County
Business Association,” regional
president Alan Karcher said. “The
JCBA is vital and good for the
community.”
Jerseyville Banking Center moved
to its new location at 1101 S. State St.
on Oct. 19, 2009. In honor of the new
building, the center will hold a
celebration Tuesday from 11 a.m. to
1 p.m., where people can meet the
JBC staff and learn about the branch’s
services and history. Refreshments
and prize drawings will be on hand.
“Our customers are invited to
join us for our one-year anniversary
celebration,” Karcher said. “Stop by
and check out our new location.”
Carrollton Bank, of which JBC is a
branch, opened for business in 1877.
Current CEO Thomas Hough is the
fifth generation of his family to
have led the bank throughout its
entire history. His late father was
Thomas Hough, the greatgrandson of Jeduthan B.
Eldred, who co-founded
the bank in 1877.
The Jerseyville branch
opened
its
previous
location at 201 W. Exchange St. in
1990. Karcher said low turnover
assures customers can count on seeing
the same friendly faces they have
come to know and trust for years.
“We have four employees who have
been with the bank since day one,”
Karcher said. “Jersey County is an
agricultural county. The personal,
‘hometown’ relationship that we have
with all of our customers is a benefit
here. Our customers really seem to
appreciate that service they receive
from us.”
Karcher has been with the bank since
April 1992. Growing up on a farm in
Southern Illinois, attending Southern
Illinois University Carbondale, and
receiving an agricultural degree
has given him the experience and
knowledge to know where his
customers are coming from.
“(My position) allows me to work
with the farming community, which I
really enjoy,” he said. “The community,
the people you get to work with every
day, makes this all work. Combine that
with the support we receive from
Carrollton Bank, and you have a winwin situation.”
That focus on customer service is
what Karcher said keeps the roughly
18 employees at JBC focused on the
job at hand. “Our motto is ‘Great
value, good people,’ and when we say
‘good people,’we mean the employees
as well as the customers,” he said. “Our
staff works hard to provide the best
service, product and relationships.”
JBC offers a wide variety of savings,
borrowing, checking, and other
banking services.
“Right now, because of low fixed
rates, our staff is busy with home
refinancing,” Karcher said.
“We are happy to offer remote
deposit, which allows our commercial
customers
to
make
deposits
electronically via a software and
scanning system we provide to
commercial businesses. Out-of-town
customers no longer have to drive to
town each day to make their deposit,
so it is more convenient for them.”
Karcher says his banking center
prides itself on sticking with what
works, while also making customer
feedback a priority.
“We make every effort to establish
a (positive) business relationship
with the customer,” he said. “We want
to make banking as easy as possible.
We really have excellent customers,
and they have made our branch a
success. Our relationship with them
reflects the overall philosophy of
Carrollton Bank.
“I want to thank the community for
20 years of support in making JBC as
successful as we have been.”
